QUOTE(danishdunter @ Aug 14 2010, 08:02 AM) hi all its me danish new to aquascaping still, really into tis new hobby hope all the sifus here can help, Very hard and almost impossible to find ADA product here in Terengganu right??? live in dungun terengganu and the LFS store over here are not into aquascaping so it difficult to find anything related to aquascaping Although the best would still be ADA soil IMO, but if you can't find any, you can always use other brands of soil like RedSea which also claims it has pH buffering capacity. Or if you cannot find soil, try getting the JBL aquabasis and top it up with gravel, I heard you can get some decent growth from it also. As a last resort, you can also do like me Why don't you show us the picture of your tank currently |

You got 2 tanks ar???
Why the water so cloudy one??? What kind of lighting are you using??? IMO, I think better you start with one tank first, and when you get some experience then only start with the second one. One way to make the plant stick is getting more substrate and making it deeper, your one looks very shallow. And also the clown loach might be the one digging them up also... I'm not very good in dry fertilizer, so no comment on the fert. |

Don't use beach sand. And as far as I know, we don't use sand to plant, just for aesthetic purposes, create a path, or part of the scape. I've never seen anyone plant in them.
The submersible light, IME is not within the spetrum of light we use for planted aquarium. It should be at least or more then 6500K lighting, so you need to change it. Cause only 6500K lighting can simulate natural sunlight needed by the plants. And IME 16w for a 3 feet is too little. It will make the plants look stunted, I used 18w on a 2 feet before but now I'm using 36w for my 2 feet which is around 1.44w per gallon, and still I'm thinking off adding another 18 watts The substrate thickness I'm using in front is 1 inch, and to the back is 3 inch thick, but I hardly plant anything in front. |

QUOTE(crewmy @ Aug 14 2010, 04:47 PM) First of all, thanks all for your comments. Was hoping for more constructive critism in order to improve myself... Your tank looks way better then mine A little bit abt my tank, using Ehem Ehem 2213.. 2 x 55W of PLL light. One is very white and the other has a yellowish tint. CO2 dosing about 10 hours, since using manual regulator, try to adjust 1 bps. For CO2 I am using this diffuser. ![]() On trimming, no skills, just use a paper scissors, trim trim leaving about 1/3 in height, and replant them back. I realised that it grew taller very very fast when it is reaching the top, of coz la since they are nearer the light too. On the Japonica, I think there is about 6-7 bunch there which I just cucuk into the soil, no skills here too. On fauna, hehe, some school fish, few SAEs, 2 Ottos, and 4 Yamatos shrimp. Dun dare yet to try CRS or RCS, but I guess my temp which is around 27-28C with a small fan should be OK for them but not to breed la. I'm using 2213 also, I didn't use the rain bar cause found out from others that it actually decrease the flow rate of the filter, and I also like some current in my tank. Cause I just love to see my stem plants swaying in the current, makes me feel like I'm watching them from the bottom of a stream. How often do you need to clean the diffuser??? Got any problems like seeing micro bubbles in the tank, so much so that its making the tank hazy??? I heard this from others using Boyu inline ones, so like to hear you opinion. Plus interested to get one also... When you replant, do you replant them behind the bush, or in front??? Cause I can't get the bushy look 27-28C very good for RCS already, I'm keeping mine at 27-29C and I can already see a few females carrying their egg saddle already lo. Hopefully will proceed to having fertilized eggs and hatch into shrimplets la... |

There is an itchy mind here too...
Thanks for the info, now I can rest my mind and go get an inline diffuser. Hehe... Cheers Added on August 14, 2010, 10:19 pm » Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... « About the rain bar, I read it when I was researching about which filter to get, 2213 or 2215. And then stumble on another forum where the guy measured the flow rate of his 2215 with the rain bar and without it, and the rate was reduced with the rain bar. But it could also be that he might have measured wrongly This post has been edited by radver: Aug 14 2010, 10:19 PM |

I'm more curious about where he got the acrylic pipes from???
But the result is very nice, the acrylic pipe remained clear even after all the heating. And most importantly the vortex effect is achieved perfectly. I want to give it a try if I can get my hands on some acrylic pipes... |

QUOTE(Yaozz @ Aug 16 2010, 07:41 PM) anyone can help me? The driftwood is new right??? why is my water turning yellowish ? dont have any plants yet . just have a driftwood and stones. i changed 60% of the water and it will turn yellow after few days Its most probably because of the tannins leaking from the driftwood. New driftwood, especially the cheap ones will leak tanins which will make the water yellowish. So normally we will submerge it under water for a few days, change the water a few time, before we actually put it in the aquarium. One very innovative way I hear to do this is actually to put it in the holding tank of the toilet. You know the tank of water stored for flushing the toilet. The concept is that you are actually changing the water every time you flush, and the water won't even go to waste. Just put it there until the water that comes out is not brown anymore. The rest of the details you figure out yourself la... Added on August 17, 2010, 12:36 am QUOTE(pakutekan @ Aug 16 2010, 08:49 PM) i get it from my friend... rm50 for 2m... QUOTE(Laine @ Aug 19 2010, 02:34 PM) guys... any low light stem plant to recommend? my tank is 2ft with 55w PL light.. =) prefer easy plant.. coz mine is a low tech tank.. only dosing JBL ferts every water change... and seachem excel every alternate day.. =) thanks.. Then my one, 2ft with 36w is super low light lo... I'm planting Asian Ambulia (Limnophila sessiliflora), Water Sprite (Ceratopteris thalictroides) and Rotala wallichii (Rotala sp. 'wallichii') I can grow them quite satisfactory even with 36w for 2ft, but they grow even better when I added DIY co2. The only difference I observed is that they don't grow new stems side ways. When I trim them, only one new stem will grow out, not like everyone else which has 2-3 new stems growing out everytime you trim. But now I'm considering adding the lighting to 55w la, cause I really want to make the stem plants bushy... BTW, how much you bought your 55w PL lighting??? Cause new set got proper casing and reflector |

QUOTE(moe81 @ Aug 19 2010, 10:26 PM) Ei, my mini puffer... i took it out of my tank after adding some shrimps.. then i remembered reading years ago that they are actually brackish water fish.. so, i tossed it into my saltwater tank.. and that thing surviving la.. lol Be careful o, puffer fish very sinister one, later he go take a few bite out of your corals... I heard of someone getting the puffer fish and putting it in his aquarium where he kept a few dozen live bearers like guppy, molly and swordtails. The live bearers didn't survive the night... |

Its suppose to turn red when the conditions are favorable to their growth, it means your plants are healthy la...
Especially when there are adequate lighting in the aquarium, they will change the pigment in the newer leaves to absorb different light spectrum. And only some species will turn red, not all. If want to stop the red from coming, you can always decrease your lighting... Correct me if I'm wrong... |

For those with algae problem try this link, I like it cause it shows all the different types of algae and the pictures for each of them, very easy for you to identify which and what algae is in your tank. Comes with suggestions on how to remove each of them too... |
