Neither one of those are true kings of 4x4. That title still held by the Land Rover Defender. tongue.gif

Hilux and Ranger are dependable workhorse, altough their chassis has been around for ages.

storm evo is not fuel economy wise, although its beauty is a killer, but look at his price, RM100k+, non ABS, non airbag... not really worth it loh....

I am also looking into a 4x4 Pickup Truck. City driving mostly. Due to the conditions of city road and the price factor of pickup, I think it is worth to consider.

Have test drive 3 models, Ford Ranger (auto) Nissan Frontier (manual) and Hilux (auto)

Hilux
Comfort is the BEST especially for city driving. Ranger and Frontier suspension a little bouncy.
Price for manual is RM87K for manual while RM93K for auto.
Please note, Toyota purposely left out the bedliner and sports bar, so please add aditional RM1500.
Was afraid about the missing intercooler, but after asking friends about it, they say if intercooler is there, there is a need to install a turbo timer (to slowly cool down), especially when engine comes to a halt.

Ford Hurricane
Value for money comes with DUAL air bag, utility box (RM1K), Thule roof rack (RM1K).
But it only comes in AUTO transmission. However value buy again cause Ford gicing out RM4K discount, so the price is RM91K. Whish they have a MANUAL version.

Nissan Frontier
Supposedly most powerful, but than again no need for power cause no doing off-road. Anyway, if I am not mistaken, the power is in its hp more for acceleration but straight line speed almost the same.
Now with discount at RM1 so price is RM86K. Only manual.
Exterior design is quite futuristic and comes with spray on bedliner which prevents rust alot better.

Yet, I am still considering which to get. Make your mind quick cause by June price will change.

Ford
No chance to visit showroom

Mitsubishi
No chance to visit showroom

Nissan
Small cabin space, lots of options, uses more fuel due to high horsepower, interior built for tahan lasak (not to nice), solid square body, spray on bed liner

Hilux
Using timing belt need to change every 80,000km (others timing chain), superb interior, no intercooler because using common rail (used in diesel cars by m.benz), low fuel consumption, 100horsepower.

*from my point of view and said by the salesman*

For Ford you need to look at older models for manual option.

c0c0nut, when u have the chance go for a test drive. That's the best way to decide. smile.gif

I Think BMW X5 And Volvo XC90

Should Not Be In Same Range, As Compare To Hilux Etc.

Since BMW X5 And Volve XC90 Is Luxury.

totally agree with u..c0c0nut...the black hilux is cool...too bad they don't have the petrol version in malaysia. It seems their focus is on fuel economy and cheap road tax in malaysia hence the CRD diesel engine.

To spanker, they can't really bring in those from the US since they are left hand drive and with v6 & v8 engines, ur gonna have fork out lotsa $$$ and may cost up to a cool million for a pickup truck

i've driven a storm and an hilux, both suck when compared to a range rover, if you're asking for best, the range rover is the best for both rough and smooth driving, dual high and low gears, 4600CC beast of an engine, main propeller shaft hand braking, smooth kick down, traction control, variable air suspension system, powerful brake pumps (though you have to grow used to it) , load compensation and great security system to boot (abit weird though, need to use key like combination lock to open it if it goes into superlock eg; right 7 times left 6....) trust me, a range rover will be the last 4x4 you'll buy, i drive it everyday and it has not failed me yet.

IMHO, the title is inappropriate. the king of 4x4 is none other thant the legendary RANGE ROVER (not Land Rover). with aluminium body to save weight, advanced differential axis, multi-link independent suspension, coupled with advanced slip control, and many more, ur limited choice of pickup trucks should not be titled as KING of 4x4. they should be titled KING OF PICKUPS...

anyway, i own a storm, since day 1 they were released in 2001 biggrin.gif

oso, if u like monstrous pickup truck, google dodge hemi truck. super big bed space, 5000cc turbocharged hemi engine thumbup.gif

I've drove many kind of 4X4(diesel turbo) cars before like hilux,Land cruiser(ninja),ford Ranger,Isuzu trooper/Isuzu Invader(Rodeo),mazda Fighter,Storm....and i think Toyota Land Cruiser(NinJa) is still the king for both comfort and Power. The newer version on Land Cruiser(known as Ninja King in Sabah) also nice and powerful but too expensive. For 4X4 pickup i will go for the new Hilux(1KD engine) damn cun car......If u guys wanna see 4X4(diesel) cars just come to SABAH almost every hse also got.

Ninja King = luxury comfort 4x4... not 100% pure off road machine. cannot submerge in water

Range Rover = ultra off road machine + luxury (leather wraps everythng, sophisticated tis and that)

NInja King cost rm 300,000 for a recon from japan. one thing sux is that it doesn't use any sophisticated suspension systme. just plain straight axle, plus 4 coil spring over absorbers. doh.gif

anyway, land cruiser = ninja king = lexus cygnus

the road tax for a hilux is very cheap in sabah/sarawak. less than RM300 a year thumbup.gif but hopefully the diesel crisis wont last for long biggrin.gif

FYI, hilux can be take off road with no problem, so u can join in expedition with it in the future biggrin.gif

coconut,

i was thinking about your comment about Toyota launching first in Thailand and AU, and you are hoping that the one Malaysians get will be better.

Not likely.

Toyota will not rush into launching any products before working out the kinks.
In fact, Malaysians are not enjoying the full range of toyota products - the Hilux Vigo in Thailand comes with both a 2.5 and a 3.0L - the latter with 163hp and 330NM of torque.

From what I saw from Toyota's website, the 3.0L is not sold?
and the price in Thailand for the 3.0 4x4 double cab is about RM70,000 or so.

I live in Bangkok currently, and am pretty amazed with the number of Toyota Hilux sold in Thailand - they claimed to have sold 120,000 units for the first 5 months, to give you an idea of how big is the pick-up segment here [about 50%, or 300,000 units per annum]

There is a full write up about the new Toyota Hilux in tomorrow's News Straits Times - Car's Bikes and Trucks section. The editor compares them to the other top selling double cab trucks like the Nissan Frontier, Mitsubishi Storm, Ford Ranger etc. Check it out biggrin.gif

land rover discovery like proton car u all know?
My grandpa got one discovery II,that car very lousy,do u ever hear about the driver window glass fall down by itself?
The windscreen wiper need to be replace every 3 months bcos the rubber are not smooth enough to swipe the water
Every servive cost about RM2K
This Discovery II is good in suspension for sure, but for other not really nice car.

I had booked one unit of new Hilux once UMW can start take order,i still cannot know when my car can arrive.Haih, the salesperson say i'm in the 1st batch but now i still can't know when i can get it.This should be unfair for me to wait without knowing the waiting period. We suppost will get car once the car has beed launched for those who book at the very 1st la,but in my case,it really make me crazy waiting for it.

Anyways,Toyota Hilux is really good choice to those who want to choose SUT

land rovers are abit cheaper because they dispense with the city comforts, like leather, dual gears and all the city driving crap.
range rover instead are armed for both rough and road terrain, since the suspension is variable and can lift or lower the car at command, plus the traction control system can adapt to road conditions. the range rover also had a few adjustable systems for road handling like stability control, load balancing and some other crap lah. drive one myself, can't say i'm dissapointed about anything besides my crappy 5.0 kmpl FC, although expected, my pocket is taking a beating.

I didn't read every single post so forgive me if I said something that has already been said. Here's my opinion. I'm driving a 2001 Ranger myself.

1. Ford Ranger (older model) - Tends to have problems with the clutch. Got mine changed at about 80'000k's. I'm having problems with the clutch pump valve too. My mechanic suspects that it's too near to the engine thus being too hot. Rear axel tends to give way prematurely with heavy loads. Not sure if they have addressed these issues in the new Ranger.

2. Hilux Vigo - More spacious interior. Lacking an intercooler but better fuel economy. Can't fit a bull bar and go off-road due to the air bags. Don't like the clutch pedal. Too darn high.

3. Frontier - Lacking of a limited slip differential. That's why it's cheaper.

4. Defender - Good non-rust aluminium body but engine is pretty expensive to maintain. Most avid offroaders with a Defenders just keep the body and change the engine + gearbox.

Nothing about range rovers, pajeros, prados as they are in a different class.

depends on how you look at it...

if you are driving it then good lar. cos you are much taller than other cars...

bad point is since you are quite high sometimes enter parking got bit problem lar...

i am getting Hurricane...

both Hilux & Hurricane are comparable...

Hilux = DOHC but 100 hp with One AirBag
Hurricane = SOHC but 121 hp with Dual AirBag

i am getting a canopy. and mine is Yellow colour.

what's yours ?

haha,jeremy0 so fast hit 700KM!
My place also got one SR turbo also it can max speed at 160kph but that time he only at 150kph and suddenly can go at 160kph.They say hilux can go only 150kph because got ECU control it.Almost all hilux can speed max at 150kph only because SR turbo and current hilux same engine, just a bit different at the top of the engine.Unfortunately,no intercooler, want to add it also cannot.

yeah...about rm400++ including installation...got it at one stop accessories in ipoh...it don't block the way lar..just fit nicely there...btw...nice number plate though..the green certificate should be processed around 2-3 days depends on ur runner...i got all my things sorted out in about 4 days becoz the stupid pengarah was away playing golf or something...maybe i didn't give coffeebean to them

btw, a friend of mine told me that u should not park the 4x4s in a way that it allows the car to be towed... he got his ford ranger towed away in front of the house at night...

hahah range rover ah,so bad,my grandpa own one 2003 discovery II,expensive service and parts and very lousy somemore, all thing like cheap thing,do u all ever see and hear discovery II side window glass fall down by itself,i mean whole glass fall and drop on driver seat?i think this is enough proof that wat i say.

about the locktech,i phone them at penang, very easy to find them, just at the road going to gurney drive.Locktech for hilux is RM449 include installation.

Actually i still study at university la,i will park my hilux in house compound and head put inside, this few day will go Melaka discuss wif house owner about to replace fence with gate bcos if my hilux park at the parking lot inside the house, all my housemate cannot go out liao.Just "gamgam".No space left to close the gate also.So i plan put my car at next to the parking lot which is a blank space in the house.

To remind all car owner once park ur car,try to turn ur steering maximum to either side and park car head to other car's head or wall to prevent towing.Once ur car park like that,if thief wan tow it at ur car backside,ur steering is turned so not easy to steal it.

how about if park car rear to the wall?
since the handbrake locks the rear wheels, it should not be possible to tow....right?

wat?got handbrake can be tow also,do u ever put on handbrake of ur car and press fuel pedal, did ur car still stay there, not moving?

handbrake can be free also, just cut or remove the handbrake line out.If u put rear of ur car facing wall so u are risking ur car, once the head of ur car can be reach by tow truck so even ur steering are locked or turned one side, the tow truck just need lift up ur car and tow it.

King of 4X4 should be Humvee. Crash proof...flat tyre proof for 50km, air diving from 100 meters in height [of course you shouldn't be in the humvee during the 100 meters air diving]...bullet proof, RPG proof, 50% wider than a Pajero......Cool...Too cool...Seen any of these in Malaysia?

today my dad complaint to UMW Toyota GM,Ong Ban Seng(correct me if wrong)

i thought today can get my hilux, but they seem not rush at all,VERY TULAN

just now at 6.35pm,SA call me and let me know that the GREEN CERTIFICATE ready liao,so Monday can register.

My hilux arrive at 29 of May but i can only get after on week.
Everyday i go toyota branch chase them then after i tell my that they say they are trying,my dad go again!

My dad really NO FACE GIVE LIAO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Customer Service everyday not same person entertain, today one person serve me then tomolo another serve me pulak, but they do not know wat happen.Everytime like that, when asking when i can get my thing ,they say will give a call later, but they NEVER GIVE EVEN GIVE A CALL.When my dad and myself call back, those entertained us dissapear liao.I think UMW Toyota will JATUH without Toyota Support, just imagine if they not dealer of WELL KNOWN AND BEST VEHICLES 'Toyota'.For sure they will "rejected by society".

Their Customer Service is just a "display" department.Nothing done by them,if u send one email (feedback form) perhaps they will not care about u.I just wonder if i say i want book car from them, then wat wil they do for your email sent to them.

well...good luck to you...mine just reached 1100km today..so next monday have to service...heard that their service kinda sucks...ljs, actually thats the "REAL" period you have to wait to get ur hilux...the car might have reached the showrooms but if the jpj pengarah doesn't sign the stupid cert, then u can't get ur roadtax and the car..it too my runner 4 working days to get it done so I truly understand how u feel...

However their janji is better than janji "proton" which i will never buy another car from them again becoz of BAD BAD experience with Proton Edar...I truly recommend anyone to stay away from their newer models

My favourite will definitely be the new Hilux. It has the most spacious interior so far, plus commonrail technology... I got the previous model Hilux SR Turbo. Full tank minyak can last for one whole week or even more sumtimes. I use it for daily basis such as bringing my sister/brother to school, plus i go out everynite yam cha... Though perfomance cannot beat Nissan Frontier. Ever racing wif a Frontier before n the result is, kalah teruk:p Overall, Hilux is a very good car to own wif lot of rooms for modifications... Toyota Thailand got Hilux Vigo wif 3.0L powerplant and 2nd generation CommonRail.. Let's hope it will come to malaysian market soon...

kinda difficult lar to upgrade it since its using a diesel engine...very hard to get after market ecu's and air filters...u could mod the exhaust and add an intercooler...which i think possible since there is a little bit of space in front...

If not turbo put intercooler is no use.INtercooler is meant to cool the compressed air from the turbo before it enters the engine because cooler air has a high oxygen density.
Also if the car is turboed i suggest installing a turbo timer, your turbo will thank you for it.

I hope every 4x4 will be considerate enough towards other drivers, don't let your alter ego on the road kill some one's brothers, husband, sisters. Its really piss me off when some mad driver bully the other road user. Accident cases prove this and other car's driver survival chances is small compare to 4x4 driver in an accident. Latest cases, 3 bikers being killed by Sorento.

Or u can add that ur friend get hilux liao at other place who book later than u(just lie he or she la)

So how is the performance of your new Hilux? Was reading the review done in the sunday Star and it seems it still suffers poor overtaking power compared to the other turbocharged pick ups.

as mention before hilux only 100hp but frontier 133hp and then ranger and storm 120hp

in term of hp,storm sure lost to hilux because my fren say that storm can not beat hilux

For u all info also,i see one review that hilux is built tough, they try to throw it from high building, then hilux stil can move, after that they put it in the sea, after few hours, they take it back, hilux stil can move by itself lastly they BOOM it wif dynamic and then it stil can move.Of course ,all those experiment will cause hilux big damage to its external or internal structure, hilux is not "bullet proof" vehicles.

Can any other pickup or SUT do this?so far as i know only Hilux will do.Sorry ha to those other brand SUT.

it will increase fuel consumption as adds more weight

hilux supposedly is more fuel economical than frontier or storm. If you want more power, you can add an intercooler. but I think you need to tinkle with the onboard computer.

i'm wondering, why so much people say that foreign suv or 4wd that are so GENG,i myself also never see or hear about the Name or types of cars.
For myself,i will only talk about the vehicles Available in Malaysia and those vehicles in Asia. For me,foreign vehicles,we will not really experience it which u never owned it because we will only know it after some years using that vehicles. In addition, foreign car are design for their environment use.We can just say something about the good or bad to those vehicles after we really test and drive it and not just see on those reviews or news about the vehicles.Sometimes, got a small little amount that talk non-sences in this tread and sometimes giving out wrong info in this tread.

sometimes cheap HID do not last longer and may b wat they call HID is just high power halogen lamp which operate at 90/100W

Mine is made in Korea which also can be say is just middle quality product, those quality product are Hella,Matsushita,Koito or Philips.
There are also different kind of feature included that make the price cheaper, like H4 bulb, mine is hi-lo beam wif just single bulb operating wif mechanism. Then there are also lo-beam only which cheaper than hi-lo beam,if the hi-lo beam and two bulb in one then it will cost u more.

which part got kemek?
take ur car to a body shop
they got some tools to fix it pretty fast if the paintwork is not damaged.

rubber mallets, suction cups, etc..

my car kemek and scratched like anyone's business. Results of off-roading. I guess the first scratch was the hardest.

check out the new Isuzu D-max, i'm still not sure whether they will come out the 2.5L version or not, only saw 3.0L spec in the internet, haf to get myself n try tat car, it looks like better than hilux, especially the 4WD features, "one button Touch-On-The-Fly", Isuzu 4wd car sure doesnt makes me disspointed, n the engine, no doubt from the best diesel engine maker, i hope the engine is more quiet since it's running chain belt, which is quite loud in the sense, gonna test drive it soon, let u guys know the results, hehe...

that day i see in new strait times newspaper,it is really 3.0L turbo intercooler,The road tax is RM3K+,how to sell it if u are not register to company use? This should be suitable use by company and it could not be called SUT liao. But the tranmission is really high-end ler, just touch the button to switch the H4,L4 and H2.

Still i'm wondering, how they can sell D-max wif 3.0L engine version,Isuzu is always like that ler, government will always use Isuzu car like Trooper n Rodeo.

About the kemet,i think it should be small but it is not really visible to ppl, but for me it is really visible, my eyes very sensitive to those scratch and kemet thing,if possible i will go for sucking method to make it out again.

was reading the original thread topic... but isn hilux and other pick up truck really hardcore offroaders?

they're great for offraod and carrying stuff.. (dad still has his purple SR turbo)

but wont a suv be better for city driving? like a harrier, rexton, or kia sorento biggrin.gif .. rexton, and sorento are turbo diesel too..wont be too bad..and u get better comfort compared to pickups

my hilux clocked at 2000km liao

i just back from toyota service centre, they say the oily strain is anti-rust then about the cd-player is operating well ,yesterday i just let the cd stuck inside so they can know what happen but just now i try it again,it eject the cd out liao,The Sa also say if still got problem i need go SC again on friday to wait for the in charge person from kl to fix it.

While those SUV are too expensive for us,it is not neccesary to buy SUV like Harrier, sorento or rexton for city driving, did those SUV are offroad-able,i not think that those owner will put thier SUV to offroad.SUT are affordable for us,just like we are owning Toyota Vios or Honda City, the price is the almost the same, this SUT is even fuel economical, safer, big size and put many things. From my knowledge, one petroleum salesman tell me that diesel engine create less dangerous emittion than petrol engine. As we know that petrol engine emit carbon monoxide that can cause cancer or death. While for diesel engine not sure la.

anti rust?? are u sure?
hmm, suspicious

actually, diesel is more efficient than petrol. Only thing is that the soot content is higher and people relate it to black smoke. It releases less harmful gases as compared to petrol. but then the quality of diesel in m'sia is debatable.

Was having lunch with my toyota salesperson yesterday. What I gathered :

1. They launched hilux before production started.
2. You can get a manual hilux faster than an automatic one.
3. JPJ is slow to approve green engine cert. (what the heck??)

toyota hilux inside space DAMN LARGE ~ walau ~ i 'm totally stun when i

1st walk in to the place. it like Ford F250. even the engine inside quite abit smaller.

well, Cameron Higlands people more prefer hilux, they say this TOYOTA HILUX

is better then ford ranger because hilux mostly problem free. ranger mostly

having dificulty of overheating / engine JAM(which claim by CH ppl).

well, before the new hilux i would suggest the storm EVO, tough 4x4 truck

but SUV 4x4 goes to RANGE ROVER - DEFENDER !

30 ringgit to and fro or just one way?
that's pretty bad mileage if just one way.

these cars run best at 80kmh... if u go above 110 the fuel consumption increases dramatically due to air resistance.

yet now diesel is expensive liao, diesel car no longer save money on fuel liao,is really equal to each other, each km RM0.15 for sedan car,i still dunno y government always plays wif the price, they really stupid la, once they increase diesel price, then transportation service charge must be increase also,so WHO SUFFER?May be they are really clever,if fuel expensive then we use less on PLUS or Road so they can save money to repair or subsidise on something.

Your fuel usage depends on your right foot
if u drive at 160...for sure the fuel consumption go up like gila tongue.gif
take it slow slow...

try and calculate your usage to km/litre..
0.12c per km becomes 9km/litre
that's my average consumption.. for a 3.5yo 150,000km ford ranger

If i take it at about 80kmh all the way, I get about 10-11km/litre

anyone here from Kota Kinabalu? I wanna know about the 4x4 workshops there who specialize in turbo fitting. I heard a lot of news about KK mechanics installing a Land Cruiser 80 turbo into Nissan Safari '95 model. U guys think this is possible? Both cars are indeed using 4.2D engines.

you are all driving 4x4's like a sedan tongue.gif

the screeching sound depends on the tyres and how fast u corner..
don't engage 4x4 when you're driving on tarred roads. you will wear out your tyres pretty fast.

the reason why these cars are more bumpy as the car is meant for carrying heavy loads. change the suspension if you want a more comfy ride.

hey all, my dad got a 1990 year toyota hilux surf 2400cc turbo diesel SSR limited (comes with top window), i am wondering can this car fix in a new 2005 year hilux VIGO engine?

and, what is the function of turbo timer?

my dad's car get 400km with rm 50 diesel, on fifth gear cruising at 90km/h.

in the user manual written, ridding at 90km/h consume 1.5 to 1.7 times the fuel compare to 40km/h.

highway cruising best at 80km/h.

LJS, the air tank is for ur air horn?
that's mean after certain time, you need to refill the tank?

i thought air horn got the pump itself?

I got the drifting sound because i really drive like sedan, just at corner, press on fuel pedal and turn steering. My rear tyre i think 10% lost liao bcos of spinning tyre at jucntion.

While for the airtank,i must go fill it after it empty,i seldom horn so long bcos it will casue death to older drivers, and my airtank is quite big so more air is compressed inside(130PSI,i can put until 180 PSI).When empty,i just go petrol station fill it up,but u must know how to modify the connector to fill the air.Actually i can put a air pump there but i can't find so i no install it,I think that the pump cannot pump until so high pressure bcos it is just a small compressor.Unless u put one BIG ENGINE generated Compressor(like those small truck repairing tyre one.
I'm using air hose or fuel hose that made in japan(each feet RM2.50),they tell me to beware when inflate the air tank and dun put until too high pressure then someone else tell me that if the pressure are high sure the hose "tembak"1st bcos it is only hose, but the airtank shouldn't "tembak" 1st.

About the HID,just to remind who want install HID, i bought one set of HID made in Korea RM2000 comes wif H4 Hi-lo beam,my HID now spoilt liao after one years, sometimes can on sometimes cannot. So if u all wan buy HID better buy those more quality but it is really expensive la.It is just my opinion la.

just read the STAR just now,Mitsubishi vehicles can service at Proton Service centre,I think they cannot stay longer malaysia liao, bcos their vehicles are not welcome by malaysian.I see so many showroom and service center close already,so far as i know, showroom at Burma Road,Penang ;Malim,Malacca and service center at Prai,Butterworth and Malim Melaka.

They keep closing their center may be they cannot compete with other company, like their Pajero so expensive and so many years no new model comes out except the Super Exceed(Damn expensive) then Airtrek also expensive while its looking nice,Storm pula, expensive and without airbags,ABS and not large cabin space.

maybe you drive too fast?

should compare urban (city drive)
and extra urban.

don't drive 150km/h la.. drive below 90km/h.

yours is manual right?

my dad's surf after changing a bit wider tyre, comes out the sound when cornering...
last time is original tyre so cornering doesn't have the sliding sound.

intercooler would be better
it let's the air cool before being pushed into the engine
more power!!
but you would need to reprogram the on board computer..

I'm sure there are people who can do it.

The Star did a review on the hilux a couple of months back. They predicted that adding an intercooler would be the first thing people would do. However, your fuel economy would suffer. I'm not sure why but that's what I have been told. You should read the article and maybe ask the author.

Not sure if it will void the warranty. There's only like 1 inch of pipe between the engine and the turbocharger. Not sure how is anyone going to fit some more hoses in there.

LJS can hit 160kmh down the freeway, who says there's not enough power??

Hey guys, the new Hilux looks real good...but it's a little underpowered for my taste. I can understand why they don't wanna put more power under the hood...cost and all.

But you think UMW will come out with a higher powered version? Maybe like a 3.0 V6?

btw, anyone of you done any mods to this sexy beast yet? I saw someone here with HIDs and a bar...anything more than that?

adding intercooler will definitely void the warranty becoz it requires the retuning of the ecu...this car is good enough already..bigger capacity means higher fuel consumption and higher roadtaxes....at this rate of increasing fuel prices, it won't be long before diesel hits rm1.80 per litre

really tulan today, someone sengaja scratch my hilux,i park in apartment parking and need pay somemore. That Cilaka guy,if i see him,i sure hamtam him,big and deep scratches at there rear door and driver side door.

This is the second time liao, before i drive corolla and also like that,he scratch my corolla butt also.

Wat to do?I just assume tis Fu*king guy like to be "small person" in mandarin "xiao ren".This person is like jealous on others.I just treat this as lost something small to prevent disaster happening.

I tried to install Turbo Timer also, unfortunately cannot install, when the turbo timer was working the ABS,4WD light goes ON,and the door cannot be lock by using remote control while the engine still running.

if i may ask .... what's the engine capacity and how's the fuel consumption? IMO .. it looks nice, macho flex.gif and civilized compared to others which looks more like a construction vehicle tongue.gif . Used to drive my familys' 3.2 V6 Isuzu Trooper and that car is mad!! shakehead.gif the fuel consumption is ridiculous. mad.gif It cost me around rm100+ to rm200 on petrol alone vmad.gif ... from Kedah to KL. Hopefully the new hilux is more ez to live with ... if it is ... bye bye vios i guess haha.

from your situation, i can conclude 2 things that my friends did as a solution..

Solution No.1: Take steering lock bash open his window. Release the handbrake and then push the car away.

Solution No.2: This was done using the mitsubishi storm. what he did was slowly reverse the car until hit the other car with minimal impact to your car. what we felt inside the car was a slight bump only. Then, floor the pedal until the obstruction is outta the way...

10 feet or 10 inches?? I usually have to select which parking i can park in...
ie. Shopping centre carparks are usually perpendicular to the road. If the other side of the road is a wall, cars will definately parallel park there. Then my car stuck there like *#*!*@*.

let me show u all the diagram,i think the space behind me is less than 10 feet because for normal sedan car, they can reverse also but a bit difficult too.so can u all imagine ,how to get out from the parking lot with a 17 feet long Hilux?

About the fuel comsumption,i also get about 600KM in town driving,Today i go fill up my tank and my town driving consumption is RM0.18 per KM.Very sad, once NAIK 20sen,our hilux need pay extra 3 sen for each KM.First time la, for me diesel vehicles need save on fuel la,even wanna put engine in idle also need to think.Oh,diesel prie increase, need save up diesel.Haih.

we should put a petition to the govt to reduce roadtax la...since the rise of diesel they should at least reimburse us on the road tax since our green engine is very low pollution

We can't do anything more practical regarding diesel going up?It will affect our car value...At least fight for 50% off the Roadtax.

truthfully, turbodiesel twin-cabs already enjoy really low govt tax when we buy it. Otherwise, the ford ranger would cost about the same as the ford everest (~140k). We saved 50k when we bought it. To ask for the same rights as petrol cars would mean our cars will go up in price.

Abdullah already said subsidies are bad. Everytime there's a hike in fuel prices, price of diesel leaps. Please don't make any anti-govt comments with regards to my post. It's getting tiring.

sabah + sarawak don't enjoy the amount of paved roads and highway that we do...that's why their roadtax is cheaper. I suppose you can go to cameron highlands to register your car. You only pay 10% road tax and but your car cannot go out of camerons.

Another way is to register your car under company. A lot less road-tax but you need to paint your company name beside the car and you need to go Puspakom to check car every year or 6 months.

Petrol road tax isn't that much cheaper. I think a Pajero 2.6 pays about 1.3k road tax.

Re to parking: Die die also will kena scratch cause this is m'sia after all. The standard car park size is shorter than our 4x4 twincabs. Even the guy trying to park beside you will scratch you. I kena so many times until I also sian to look at my own car. But then, the more scratched and dirty my car is, the more ppl will give way to me. muahaha.

if i register under company also same la,the insurance will more expensive
i calculated before,it is almost the same if u registered as private use or company commercial.

My Hilux is registered under company private.

if i'm not mistaken we just need go puspakom each year only ma,then our ADD-ON accessories or Tyre or Rim which is not comes originally must be taken off.

My mum tell me that if u so care to ur hilux, then ur hilux will get more scratches because u r so care to it.May be it is true also,u can see those car park "chin chai",there is not scratches on their but i always park at the most suitable place ,scratch by cilaka people.God will BLESS them.

btw...what tyre are you all using now...allready use brand like sime tyres which is oem for my model...Savero H/T from GT Radial...Silverstone...the best one is Bridgestone Dueler H/T made in Japan which now im using it...very quiet and good grip...very hard to heard screech from this tyres even taking a fast corner...good grip in wet condition...this is a soft compound tyres...so the tyres will wear out faster... sad.gif

Ouch, that's a long drive. Need to take the old trunk road. I guess if you travel so much, a carputer is really useful. Where are you thinking of getting ur screen from? I am at a loss other than order from the USA.

I already have a GPS which serves me quite well. It can load the free M'sian map. It may be free but it's even got the road to Mambang Diawan!! to Langkap even..

I haven't gone to those places as I don't know anyone. Later kena chop by the chop shop.

I'm driving the same car! Your friend got the sidestep?? So far I've only managed about 70 ringgit max. Sad..when I first got the car, 40 ringgit already penuh until melimpah. Now?? ptuey..

I am using the same tyres too I think. Bridgestones made in Japan. Not sure which one but i think it's duellers. Paid about 300 for each. The original car came with some shite Sime tyres. If it rains and I picit minyak around a corner, sure terbabas. I had a pair of Goodyear MT (made in Indo) which were pretty good too.

I checked my tyres, they're BS Dueler's A/T from japan. No traction problems with them but pieces of stones keep getting stuck in the thread.

today i went to shop for a cheapest 4x4 truck
coz wanna get for my dad comp ...

i went to check out mazda arista ... as i tot mazda would be the cheapest among all the car ... asking for most cheapest would be RM85K (airbag is not optional) kinda shock coz i was expecting it would be cheapeset ...

then i went to check out nissan frontier ... RM83K
all kosong ... comparing mazda and frontier ... i personally take frontier because i have alwiz have faith in nissan cars .. make a downpayment and hope the loan will be approved as soonest to get my car

i didnt check out latest Toyota Hilux, but my house do have one yr 2004 auto which is very comfortable riding it ... as well as almost problem free

i cant wait to test the frontier, according to the salesman, frontier power are fantastic among 80kmh to 130kmh .. probably around 3rd n 4th gear

jeremy..are u still interested in meeting up? not sure what we're going to talk about considering i don't have a hilux..hehe

the old hilux non-turbo is a really reliable workhorse.. the turbo version was too short-lived..but this newest hilux vigo is less offroad capable. the springs are too soft to actually carry heavy goods. good for comfort tho.

red..just the normal XLT

Toyota is quite strict with sales. When your car comes, they will follow its turn. It's stupidly slow cause toyota is focusing on Innova. Now they launched fortuner! How are they going to cope..

haih, ttoday really sueh,i go toyota 5000km servcie,i thought everything will be ok liao, then they say my air-cond got problem so they make it off and tell me go repair tomolo, this morning still ok.No aircond suffer la.WTF 3 months toyota vehicles run 4600km aircon rosak liao?I always face problem almost everytime i buy something eventhough i buy the branded one.Especially my computer,i buy the BEST one but it tends to rosak and go claim warranty. Then i go 4wd accessories to re-welding my spot light bracket bcos it is so thin when i buy it,yesterday i move and got craking sound so i paln go welding again, they say my front bar is cheap one, very thin,no use if i weld it again, may be some day it will leak again, then i really like WTH...........so just now remove the whole front bar myelf to remove the spot light and install it again bcos the screw it very near to my bumper so it is not easy put in spaner.

today really tulan, the foreman of UMWT blame me that i force the air-cond pipe to "geser" wif the suspension thing,he say i force it to near to there bcos i modify the thing, the pipe is under the air-filter(whole casing),how i can force the pipe to near the suspension thing?then he say i install HID and to easy install he say me remove the whole air-filter casing so that time accidentally or not accidentally i press on it,I never remove the air-filter before,WAt for?i install HID myself,i can install it without remove anything. Then he say impossible one,he say i sure remove it,then i really frust liao,i tell them install excaltly the same when i get the car,so i install it by myself without remove anything, then he "senyap".He just say he can dun give me "warantty" after modify something. But i say i sumpah i never remove it.Then another story,he say i remove the front bumper before and he also say there is an brken clip at the bumper there,i never remove the bumper,if i remove it ,then if i can't fix it up,so my car consider "sampah",i'm not "pengetuk mudguard"wat for i remove the mudguard?Y dun he say the clip broken is bcos when the time they open it.Luckily there is also one NEW Hilux that just register and going to drive by the owner,i see his one,the pipe is just half inch near(1-1.5cm).How can they blame me?
Let me show u all the pic

Wat i can say is UMWT is not good at all, thier management SUCKS,so hilux user beware,if ur air-cond pipe is also like that pls send to service center or make it higher than the usual

This faulty posiibly make by assembly plant themself or make foremen at the 1st 1000Km service, they do check the air-cond pipe

i already seen fortuner,i go check the air-cond pipe,it is the same ,not so far to the metal. Then just now i dare to try force the pipe to near the metal,it is very hard to force as the mouting is very firm.So i now thinking not waotrh let those cilaka foreman that no experience talk COCK to me,blame me somemore.Cilaka, even myself can know wat is the possibility of causes but those PARIA foremen talk non-sences,go back kampung tanam padi la.

Really not WORTH ,blame me,although i no need pay for the labour charge and replacement part.It bcos they don't admit that thier assembly plant create this problem,if they do,so UMWT jatuh standard.I is true that STAR newspaper say that Toyota get no.4th customer satisfaction,Nissan get 1st,Perodua 2nd,Honda 3rd.It really true, they think they are distributing Toyota car mean they don't have problem during assembly? They seem like everything they is perfect, nothing goes wrong.

Now i know y some car got 3years warranty,u all know why?Ane the price is so low compare to those years that one give 1 year warranty. It is bcos they just give out slight poor quality control QC so they can cut cost so car cheaper lo,if got problem then they warranty for u all lo,so if no problem then they can get rid off giving warranty. There is not harm that they giving out poor quality and they giving out warranty.Since they give 3years warranty so they not afraid customer will complain or even SUE them as they still give warranty. My house got one C200K,E200K (merc),Land Rover Discovery 2,Toyota HiluxSR turbo,Toyota hilux 2.8D,Toyota Vios. All these are new car,it always got problem, realy got problem, even my old Toyota corolla SEG also don't proble that happen wif these expensive and branded car.

Merc problem are Alternator(charging device),air-cond,underbody sound, egine cannot start, then even worst my dad C200K that day oil leaks and goes to the Computer Board(ECU) and ECU and wiring in the car need to be replace, luckily got 1 more months warranty, when the time my dad send for warranty they don't want give out warranty as it only have one month warranty.

About Land Rover,it is the same,air-cond spoilt,Alternator spoilt and underbody sound, the wiper rubber need to be change every 3 months bcos it cannot swipe well after 3 months,a pair of wiper rubber is about RM200.The maintainance fee is so HIGH.

About Toyota Hilus SR turbo,The engine cannnot start or sometimes engine dies on the road, then when turning got sound after so many times of repair,it still happen,Got one time,it cannot even start and need to be TOW.Toyota vios ler, same also, engine cannot start, need to be TOW,underbody also got problem.

BUT my Toyota Hilux 2.8D got no problem at all, just need change engine oil and fill wif diesel.

So,How u all feel ?Is That expensive car mean better?Except CBU(complete built unit). Those CBU sure good la.

i forget to share wif u all that last week i go KL for my gf sister convocation at Wisma MCA,it takes me about 1 hour and 10 minutes to arrive.I speed at 140-160 km/h constantly as that morning the highway was not much car.I clocked about 610 KM overall plus few KM town driving.
My Hilux consume about RM 0.10 per KM including some KM town driving. If we calculate 100% town driving, may be it is just 8 or 9 cents per KM on highway on constant speed 140-160 KM/H.Or we can conclude that whenever u driving in town,it consume extra 50% of FC at highways(160km/h) bcos my hilux town driving FC is RM 0.16 per KM.Furthermore,i didn't fill up diesel in the whole distance.I think we can go for 960 KM for highway running constantly at 160kph. (75 liter x RM1.281=RM 96.075 ; RM96.075 / RM0.10= 960.75KM )

We should calculate this bcos it is our MONEY!!!!!!!
So if the diesel price still going up,i can't imagine how much per KM we can get.Just to compare with my previous Toyota Corolla SEG 1.6 (89HP), my SEG consume about RM 0.11 per KM(highway) that time VPower is RM 1.48 per liter. My fuel tank can only support about 400KM,start my journey at Penang and i need fill up petrol at KL oledi.

i'm thinking to make the rim to chrome and change to bigger tyres

But my dad tell me before that bigger tyres make the vehicles not stable and cost more fuel as more tyre surface touching the road.

If we looking to our Hilux,it seem that the tyres too small compare to the body,it really looks small. If i'm not mistaken, bigger tyres cost more $$ than Hilux original 255 tyres.I think my tyres will wear out very soon as i always make it "yek yek " when i running at 1st gear.It is just like swing my "long dragon tail".

check for us wat can be added to our Hilux,Hilux rox!!!!!!!

that time i sleep from 12am to 12pm waiting for my Hilux,i always hope that my dad wake me up and saying ur hilux come liao,i sleep like that almost 2 months.Luckily i get it finally,if not,i dunno sleep until cannot wake up liao

About ICE,we can only put the Subwoofer behind the second row cushion or at the front L and R inside under the aircon output or under the front seat. The thickness of the woofeer should not exceed 3.5 inch so it is very hard to put in woofer then furthermore the woofer need box,how we can fix in the box eventhough we are not putting the big woofer box.The suitable woofer should be 8" or less. But the thickness i haven't measure yet. That day i'm thinking put computer speaker (Altec Lansing) inside bcos i got 220V inverter and i just adjust the volume for the speaker and the input is front both front or rear speaker. But i really lazy to do that.

peel fresh i think u should change to those expensive engine oil For example Castrol SLX if i'm not mistaken, one 4 liter cost about RM1++.My dad's Harrier using it,it really made improvement.

Just now i just check the speaker,if i'm going to change the 6.5" speaker at front and rear,it might be cause problem for me bcos if we remove the stock speaker means remove all the casing of the speaker,so we cannot fix in the new speaker without casing, without casing the magnet of the speaker will block the window glass when moving. Then ,this morning i take out the centre console plastic which is the audio head-unit
and the air-con controller. The stock audio HU is only wif normal output and it is without RCA output. So we can not connect Amplifier for our speaker.About the woofer,i really can't find a proper place to fix it in.

This evening i see one KL plate Hilux wif canopy,bug-guard,front left side mirror, front bar,JAOS sticker. It really look "chio" really ganas, not bad compare to Fortuner.
I'm thinking to get those thing for my Hilux, really need make it look like sporty pick-up truck

really? the thing is the engine has a tap tap tap sound u know.. the mechanic say that it's the taping sound and if u put a fully sintectic oil it will make it worst
so in the end i put mineral oil to reduce the sound

that one i dunno la,i think u should find the proper mechanic.ISUZU is always got tap-tap sound bcos it's engine is running timing chain, rite?.Does the mechanic know know about this?I got encounter once that the tyre shop person tell me that my front wheel brake "jammed" and the lift-up the car and turn the wheel and he show me the wheel is so hard to turn so mean ur brake jammed liao.Luckily i'm not that stupid,my car front wheel drve,it is for sure feel hard to turn the wheel la, then he say my absorber spoilt liao bcos he see something wet on the absober there, actually the wet place is water that comes when we go tru water.Did u all find out that this is WTF tyres shop. The shop is at Batu Berendam,Melaka, near Infineon. The sucker tell me this and that is not he BOSS,before i go once but the boss serve me,quite ok also but he didn't say this and that rosak.

the tap tap is caused by the opening and closing of valves.. technically it would be louder as synthetic oil is less viscous.

synthetic oil is much more expensive but can last longer between services.

regarding no power, how many km's have your car done? does it have an intercooler? it's a really heavy car too. did u change your rims to bigger ones?

i think here got ppl doing carputer, rite?Is that using normal PSU and mainboard then connect to 12v to 220v inverter?Add on one monitor and harddisk then can use liao ,rite?I'm not thinking to buy touch screen monitor bcos it is so expensive.I can use small mouse and small flexible keyboard.Furthermore i can add one DVD-Writer to do burning or movie watching. But i think it will cause me about RM1500 for cheapest AMD processor bcos there is not need pay for high end system.I now current have one P4 Pres-hot,but i dunwan put in car bcos it create alot of heat, later air-cond cannot cold.Furthermore,it consumew more power.

Coconut,mind to let me know where u live?Can i pay u a visit?Can i taste the smell of new car?haahhah

i want i want new hilux smell...coconut poslaju to me! hahahah

ljs..if u wanna start ur carputer project tell me, i can help u...i just sold off my carputer pc now wanna get new one...u search around ebay...for 2k plus, u can get one set including touchscreen lcd and cpu...don't use our local cpus, get a proper one running on the via eden chipsets...it requires no cooling system and won't get hot..mine ran on via eden esp6000, 512 ram and 20gb hdd...it will all fit nicely on the left side upper storage compartment....u can mod the power inverter to be put inside the glove compartment...go to lowyat and get a higher voltage rated one....don't buy the rm100 plus one over the internet...

then for lcd...get a liliput touchscreen lcd...about rm900 over the net...mount it in the middle..there u have it a basic set running..

Why the via eden chipset?

Pros:
1) Eventhough its slower than AMD/Intel CPU, its still powerful enough to run winamp, dvds and other apps(except 3d gaming).
2) It emits very little heat in a cram cpu casing and does not require cpu fan
3) It is very2 compact coz its runs on sodimm ram and notebook harddisk
4) It has a CF type I/II slot to put gprs card, bluetooth card or GPS navigation card....endless possibilities...

Im trying to search for a higher end cpu rite now with automatic invertor...it starts the cpu up when u start the car engine...

now i'm thinking to do carputer,if i buy AMD set plus normal car monitor(my dad remove from car one) so i need mouse and keyboard. It is seem like pc in car .But wat i dun like is i need use mouse and the monitor is at the roof,so diificult to see. Then if i buy a AMD sempron, may be it create more heat.Anyone here know about the heat create by AMD Sempron? If i got the LCD monitor with touch screen and fit at the stock cd player place so it become like luxury car wif monitor,it become so hi-tech,Hilux got car-puter

I had search the mainboard that suitable for me,but i can't the correct one,i can only put the mainboard under the seat,so i need connect power cable from psu and the cd-rom from the left site upper compartment. It seem long wire to be connected. That is impossible to find one mainboard that can be fiited in the lower storage compartment. So i think putting under seat is the best choice, but which system to choose?AMD?Intel?I got one set P4 2.6C 800Mhz,my MSI board kong liao i think so may be i will take the processor use as my system,But dunno it will so hot or not ler.I can also consider AMD Atlon 64 socket 754,it really create low heat,CPU idle temp only 35C.

rikecool is a good tint, my uncles rexton is using this one and definitely worth the price...

ljs...amd and intel is good also but u could try getting an amd board, with amd mobile chip, which runs much cooler than normal athlons...its also great if u can built a compaq liquid coolant system into the cpu...worst2worst, custom a transparent micro atx casing

haha,i forget about the power comsumption,i think Intel Celeron should be the correct choice, bcos i think it will create less heat compare to AMD.

one thing that it really restrict me to bulid car-puter is the graphic card,i must buy one Gc bcos i need the AV out to monitor,so the GC will be so high until i can't fit in under the seat,if i buy mainboard wif built-in GC,i will not have TV output so monitor cannot display.Wat to do ler??????????The only place which is very spacious is only under seat but the height is not enough ler, only 3 inch high but my GC is 5 inch.
May be this time tak jadi liao, luckily i not desparate to buy the mainboard, processor and RAM.

i just sold off mine already...going to get another model later (Xenarc CP-1000 hopefully) together with a touchscreen lcd..i plan to fit everything under the passenger seat/glove compartment...

ljs..if ur using a/v, the res could be quite problematic...thought of this method previously but the quality of output is not satisfactory...better get a proper one with vga input...i got a 10m long vga cable alraeedy (custom) so thats not a problem if i mount the lcd in front and cpu under the seat.

Coconut..im going to phuket tomorrow...see u there.hahaha...wanna drink lotsa pineapple juice and admire their vigo...there's this 3 litre vigo for rent at THB1500 per day...wonder if its worth renting

i got my intel celeron today wif foxconn mainboard,512 RAM,Ati 9250 GC, WD 80G HDD,DVD ROM. I'm to put main board,HDD,DVD ROM under seat then PSU put at left side of the aircon blower there, actually i wan put DVD ROM inside the centre console box but i dunwan potong the hole,it is still new car,i sayang to drill hole.Intel Celeron idle temp is 39C,is quite high also bcos it is using stock HSF.I'm waiting my monitor from hometown,it is remove from my dad car,it should be a AV input not VGA,that y i buy the cheapest and smallest GC that got PS@ head that can convert to AV output.Once i get my monitor i will post up the pic.Now my problem is how to connect my carputer speaker to my car speaker,i ask one accessories shop ppl, they say can use hi -to -lo converter to make the speaker output from stock HU to RCA ouput so i can use both HU and carputer in car speaker, just use pre-amp that got 2 input. Now wat i can do is use cheap speaker or earphone to listen buit no display.

very sad to day.A lots of thing happen to me today.First, then mainboard burn after i install all thing under the seat.So i go the shop then just exchange.then i fix it in again, then i feel like very scary when i put in the mainboard again, then i think for a while,if the mainboard or power supply burn up or short circuit with the carpet then my Hilux gone liaolo.I scare this bcos i just put the mainboard without putting isolator under the mainboard. My system dun hav casing also.By then the PSU is so hot and there is not much air flow under the seat.So i remove all of it liao.Waste my time fixing it,next week got examinaton,i still no study at all,and still thinking for CAR-PUTER,Haih.I had spended about RM1K for the system and ends up with nothing.I hope after my exam, when holiday can do casing for it and put anywhere else.

I got see one mainboard with VIA chipset,it comes wif VIA processor,it is really small in size about 5x8 inch, cost only 2xx.If my monitor is VGA input,i sure buy that one.It dun hav AGP slot ler.But it's processor cool by small fan only.Very tiny mainboard,it is for basic user only.

then my Intel Celeron system but i remove all the thing already bcos i scare short-circuit and cause to fire.Very sad,buy then install then remove.I think i will install it again once i get the casing,of course the casing is no longer put under seat, may be put around the rear seat.

hi guys...there are so damn many vigos in thailand...and they have intercoolers some more......the fortuners are also nice..., found one shop selling vigo front bull bar but the price is around 50000 bht...abit on the high side but design quite nice....

i didn't manage to test out their hilux 3.0 coz petrol is freaking expensive...i ended up with a honda jazz dsl which could run quite far with just 7 litres of petrol....petrol price is on average 26.7 bht per litre! Some more price varies between stations

Today really disapppoint me,the monitor cannot display clearly bcos it is AV input,so the output of the GC is not good in quality also. Then my 220v inverter is really hot when operating (about 70C,can burn ur hand),the PSU also very hot,i just on for not more than 30 minutes. So,may be my system will no longer at car liao, may be convert to destop. Will try VIA built-in processor mainbaord with touch screen monitor.
Jeremy0,i think u know where to get touch screen monitor ,rite? How much is that?
