I am also looking into a 4x4 Pickup Truck. City driving mostly. Due to the conditions of city road and the price factor of pickup, I think it is worth to consider.

Have test drive 3 models, Ford Ranger (auto) Nissan Frontier (manual) and Hilux (auto)

Hilux
Comfort is the BEST especially for city driving. Ranger and Frontier suspension a little bouncy.
Price for manual is RM87K for manual while RM93K for auto.
Please note, Toyota purposely left out the bedliner and sports bar, so please add aditional RM1500.
Was afraid about the missing intercooler, but after asking friends about it, they say if intercooler is there, there is a need to install a turbo timer (to slowly cool down), especially when engine comes to a halt.

Ford Hurricane
Value for money comes with DUAL air bag, utility box (RM1K), Thule roof rack (RM1K).
But it only comes in AUTO transmission. However value buy again cause Ford gicing out RM4K discount, so the price is RM91K. Whish they have a MANUAL version.

Nissan Frontier
Supposedly most powerful, but than again no need for power cause no doing off-road. Anyway, if I am not mistaken, the power is in its hp more for acceleration but straight line speed almost the same.
Now with discount at RM1 so price is RM86K. Only manual.
Exterior design is quite futuristic and comes with spray on bedliner which prevents rust alot better.

Yet, I am still considering which to get. Make your mind quick cause by June price will change.

It is sad really. I am so interested in getting a Hilux, but the nighmare stories I keep hearing really makes me think twice. I remember the first time new Hilux came out, I went for test drive and the sales man told me the security system is similar to Camry, added with anti-tow. I wonder, why thieves don't go after Camry instead. Isn't it much more valuable.

Come on, any one from Toyota, stand up and take note.

Anyone know if price of pick-up will increase next year with the new National Automotive Policy. I read somewhere 4x4 will increase in price, but will that affect pickup as well.

Did anyone see the new Isuzu D-Max 4x2. Cost around RM67K. Is is a 2500cc displacement.

Full tank of 76 litre goes for 1400km. That is super fuel consumption.

Minus stuff like ABS, EDB, do you think it is ok to get as a budget vehicle. Can't afford a 4x4 pickup, but at least it is better and cheaper than a normal car.

Just wanna know, anyone you guys who bought your 4x4, have you gone off road before. Or did any of you engage full 4x4 all the time or mostly drive 4x2.

I do know the 4x2 by Isuzu D-Max has its back suspension softer, comparable to a car. So I am wondering will a 4x2 pickup do ok most of the time

ANyone knows how is tha sales of pickup in Malaysia rite now. With the car market in a down turn, pickup truck market suffers most. No discount, high road tax and almost same fuel price with petrol. Anyone knows if there is going to be any updates in the pickup market soon. So bored. Half of 2006 gone by. Sigh
