Dear Seniors, recently just get a 2nd hand Mitsubishi Storm 2.5AT. Quite confuse with the OD (Overdrive) function. May i know its better to turn it ON or Off during normal driving?100% city drive here. Found that its fuel consumption is terrible, now still not yet finish a tank of diesel but...now already consume 3/5 tank more but just ran for around 220km only.. 1st time into 4 x 4 trucks, owning a Perodua Viva and its really a big gap in between on the fuel usage >.<

Same with car, for city driving - OD should be ON at all times.

L - Gear 1 only.
2 - Shifts between gears 1 and 2.
D (OD Off) - Shifts between gears 1, 2 and 3.
D (OD On) - Shifts between gears 1, 2, 3 and 4.

Trucks are heavy, full tank city drv shd giv u 400 - 500Km.

Mikahl, collecting my BT-50 M/T tmrw thumbup.gif would like to check with you on which is the best diesel to go with.

Understand that B5 diesel pumps are slowly populating the nation. Also read that regular Euro 2M diesel give more power.

Can you share which recommended diesel to use? Best regular diesel & best B5.

I've read and heard that it is not really safe to drive on 4wd on winding roads. Is that true? If we are going up to Genting, is it ok to use 4wd?

Thanks for the info. Maybe hv to start get use to Trucks fuel consumption since bought 1.

By the way, will it be dangerous if mix up with petrol & diesel, for example RM5 for petrol and the rest all pump for diesel? in order to get more fuel efficiency

in east malaysia (sabah & sarawak), the chipped 4wd will overtake you at any chances on the winding and hilly country road. which is far curvier than genting. And there is this regular old yellow ford ranger which will
attempt to overtake you at 140km/h going down from cameron highland to simpang pulai.
the key to lesser body roll during high speed cornering is correct braking and throttle point.

perhaps you could ring 'em and check out. colorado is quite new in the market, hence, lesser after market accessories. Am waiting for its twin in d-max.

When you engage in 4wd your front and rear tyres will be spinning at the same speed. Pickups do not have a center differential like some SUV's.
So when u turn, your inner tyre will be trying to turn at the same speed as the outer tyre. This causes the tyre to jump and actually lose traction.
It wont happen on straight roads. In muddy roads, the soft terrain will give way for the tyres. The heavy engine will help you get traction on the front tyres.

So if you think it's safe to go up genting with 4wd engaged, continue doing it. I don't think its a good idea.

Yes you are right. Not only that, you run a risk of damaging your drive system, or wearing out your expensive tyres unnecessarily.

Use 4WD for offroad only as a rule of thumb.

Actually it is not safe with 4wd engage on winding tar roads... You put stress on the drive train and may damage it

New owners will always feel gatal to shift the short stick... been there before...

As long as your rear wheel has traction, leave it that way, use the 4wd when you need to get out of trouble. The weight of the engine makes the traction on the front wheels better than the rear.

If you're in Klang valley, there is this road between Saujana Putra and Jalan Kebun. If not mistaken its called Jalan Kampung Lombong. Its a gravel road with white rocks. Very fun to drive using 4wd. At some turn you can powerslide and go sideways for a while... hahaha

I normally take that road if Elite is jam. Be careful on the road as left and right is the lombong.

I heard that Jalan Kebun has their own 4x4 club as well. Would like to get to know some of the members if they are reading here.

I remember that Ford might bring in the original accessories in Malaysia if there are high demand from the customer, as per what they said in their Ford Ranger Malaysia facebook page. Let say they did bring in the original accessories, should I go for the original stuff or go for third party's?

BTW, what color do match with my metropolitan grey T6?
