does nintendo have any plan for TV based 3d? putting 3d on a handheld is far easier than on a tv where users will be spread across the room thus ruling out the use of parallax glass

5 years ago, Sony and Microsoft thought winning the hardware wars requires consoles with the highest horsepower and high def. Nintendo went the other route.

To answer your question, I think Ninty does not have any plan for TV based 3D at this moment. They just let the others have that piece of pie and went the other route which is 3DS. In the end consumer wins becasue we have the options.

Microsoft has also involved on glass free 3D technology R&D, although there's no concrete conclusion for the time being, it's progressing well so far. And it doesn't require expensive Bravias to do the job, currently limited to LED displays, but they are working on how to implement that on regular LCD displays as well.

there's always a 'trojan horse' with sony hardware, and they are not shy to take the proprietary approach. take a look at their history! sure, they lost some battles, but they've won quite a few as well.

video tapes -> betamax
cameras -> memory stick
optical discs -> mini discs
digital music -> atrac
ps3 -> blu ray

now, 3d tech -> bravia?

broadcast industry still using an improved version of Betamax tapes in digital form

their DSLR and SE phones are using SD and microSD already

MD is well extincted

ATTRAC haha.. now is AAC and MP3 era

bluray.. most successful thing among the others mentioned here

as for 3d tech, many manufacturers are coming with their propriety tech, like I care so much in this, with less than 256 MB of system memory and 256MB of VRAM, I don't think PS3 can handle stereoscopic that well
