there's always a 'trojan horse' with sony hardware, and they are not shy to take the proprietary approach. take a look at their history! sure, they lost some battles, but they've won quite a few as well.

video tapes -> betamax
cameras -> memory stick
optical discs -> mini discs
digital music -> atrac
ps3 -> blu ray

now, 3d tech -> bravia?

In term of tech use in both Move and Kinect are very similar. Both use camera to pinpoint user location. Where as Wiimote use a very simple tech, infra red. So it made sense if compare tech. Move and Kinect very similar.

wrong!

my previous post. Since the move uses the PS Eye to track movement of the wand, my point is still valid.

kinect has tech that eyetoy doesn't have. it has infrared lasers that floods the room at a very fast framerate, looking for changes in the objects it is tracking. its more hitech, but without controllers games r limited to just a few genres (let me spell it here: dancing, fitness, somesport games). that is ok, coz those genres it excels are good enough for me. but i must say this again: kinect marketing department sucks! how dare they insult my intelligence with the "change tyre at pitstop" demo.

if i may, i think its still early days for tech like kinect. i would like to think of it as a first gen implementation. there is definitely potential. for one, i love the whole 'minority report' style menus when you watch videos. imagine if they could integrate it with proper games!

imagine playing a RTS with just hand gestures. imagine playing a shooter with a controller and you do a punching motion for melee attack or a lobbing motion to throw a grenade. i would so like to play my games in that way. its fun and different.

its very unlikely that i will buy the kinect when it comes out, but i do like to see new and exciting stuff that may change how we play our games.

Since ur here, i'd like to pick ur brain.

Do you think more of shovelware would be in the console or the "core" games would be the majority? This is the 360, unlike the Wii.

While the Wii is money making proven through shovelware and casual oriented games, I really can't help but think that Kinect gives the same idea.

Heck, just read Ubisoft's Fight Game and the bit on LOCAL MULTIPLAYER. Mau gaduh no need 360 lah. tongue.gif

i agree. honestly, the kinect feels like its targeted at casual gamers. so i think the majority of the kinect games will be of the shovelware variety e.g. fitness, rhythm, animal petting, etc.

the fact states that microsoft has a good slice of the core gaming segment already. most of the big multiplatform titles sell very well on the 360. if i remember correctly, the software attach rate for the 360 the highest, something like 8. So, there is no shortage of gamers buying games on the 360.

it makes sense for microsoft to try to expand their market share via the casual gaming route. in fact, i think its kinda late since the wii and ds has pretty much sewn up the market, but that is beside the point. lol.

the question now is can kinect pull off a 'wii'? i doubt it. i think its playing to the same gallery. the current xbots will probably the ones buying most of it, for their family, kids or girlfriends. lol.

I agree with bolded. Most of the people that I know have a Wii, seems not too inclined to get a Kinect. While the xbots, well, they seem adamant on getting it but they can't see beyond the area that they want their family and friends to play along with them. But this is purely based on my small observation of my close frens and some customers.

You're right on the part of pulling off a Wii. I think there's a chance, but looking at target market, I don't think graphics is gonna save the 360s graces this time. Also, I wonder what developers may think of the cost of developing the games for all 3 consoles. Can't really say which is cheap and familiar though.

like i said man, the kinect is late to the game. very late. if i'm reading this correctly, microsoft intends to create a second wave of the entire 'casual gaming' trend again like what the wii did. whether this will work really depends on microsoft's marketing, the support by 3rd party titles and pricing. it's still a bit early to tell, but i've read that analysts think the kinect will bring in USD1 billion for microsoft in the first year or something. pretty bold predictions.

the developers or publishers are simple animals. if you can provide a platform that can shift millions of games, they will come. their allegiance lies with who can make them the most money. if the kinect can sell millions of games, there will be developers/publishers banging at the door. period.

I think analysts can only judge that base on the previous data, or in other words the success of the Wii. I'm still a little skeptical however. But i'll be like you. I'm gonna take the wait and see approach and see what happens.

lol. i'm definitely more excited about the kinect than the move. the move, in all honesty and without any bias (if this is possible! tongue.gif) is just uninspired and... boring. tongue.gif i can see the SDF peeps boiling already!

however, i suspect it will still sell a gazillion units because its from sony and its.for.the.ps3. oh well.
