There are few possibilities.. could be the mother is in stress condition (most common causes as glider will do ANYTHING when they are stress).. could be the mother is not getting sufficient nutrition to support the joey (but normally they will reject the baby instead of killing it, but it's possible).. could be someone handled the joey or the mother smells different scent attached on the joey (she feels threaten..)..

So, you should ask your friend what happen..how many glider in the cage? is the female glider first time having baby? what size of cage is he using? what diet is he feeding?

mine always sleeps on me.if your body is warm, your suggie will stay and sleep on u  thumbup.gif
*
Lori is right. Sugar gliders are lactose intolerent, so they will have upset stomach or diarrhea if you feed them normal milk. If you wanna feed them milk, you can go for the wombaroo possum milk that specially made for them. smile.gif

If your glider is fully weaned already, i think you should have stop feeding milk and start proper diet such as HPW or etc.. smile.gif

what do u mean by fully weaned may i know?? mine is a female. did u mean the one near its lower abdomen??
*
Fully weaned means the glider are mature enough to be seperated with the parent, no longer needed nursing and can live at their own. smile.gif

The one that you mentioned below its lower abdomen should be the pouch of a female sugar glider. If it's a male, it will be the testicle.

Hi Guys,
Did you all guys read the news on the Star 19/03/2011 regarding sugar gliders 'not suitable as pets' as quoted Malaysian Nature Society Johor advisor Vincent Chow?
"He said the nocturnal animal could cause an imbalance in the local ecosystem if released into the wild.
Although the animals are cute and adorable, not many people knew how to take care of them.
Most buyers tend to get bored of them as they are only active at night and spend most of their time sleeping in the day.
The animals are also not used to our climate as it is hot and humid compared to theri native home. The change in climate could kill them.
Most owners also tend to change the natural diet of the suger gliders who are more used to feeding on insects, necter, pollen and fruits.
Their food were often substituted with pellets, which are often fed to rabbits.
It is wrong for parents to encourage their children to keep such pets and we need to educate our society on why these animals should not be kept as pets.
Buying sugar gliders and keeping them as pets are actually encouraging poachers and smugglers to smuggle the animals from the natural environment.
Sugar gliders are sold as pets between RM150 to RM500 each."

Wow! Look at the remarks he made. I think we all will get rich if glider are sold at RM500 each. Hahaha.
*
QUOTE(sheilameow @ Mar 20 2011, 06:41 PM)
NOOOOO WAY...does this mean we must get liciense to own them after this sad.gif
*
I think in some way this is a wise act to restrict and control glider keeping by doing licensure and all. What he said is right, not everyone knows how to keep glider in appropriate way, there are tons of people out there feeding hamster food, apple and keeping their glider in extremely small cage. If such restriction made by the authority will make consumer research more and think twice before getting such adorable creature, this is really big contribution to the sugar glider community. smile.gif

Oh yea JeorgeT, in some of the state such as Sabah Sarawak, sugar glider is selling as high as RM500. smile.gif My first glider was bought at rm550 too in KL, but years ago.

What food are u feeding? What cage are u using? Where is the male glider?

There are alot of things that may affect her appetite, so u nid to let us know more...

Depending what you want and what u buy for ur glider. Some petshop provides starter kits for gliders, cheaper than u buy seperately.

no fur dropping, but found a small bug like, maybe lice ,
btw this fellow always got wet , below area, is it because of sweat ?
keep in room with windows and door open tho
*
Glider don really have much sweat gland, so i don think that wet causes by sweat.

Sometime they will lick their belly/pouch area esp during hot weather, this is one of the way for them to bring down their body temperature.

Since you already notice small bug like things on the body, why don you bring to the vet asap?

QUOTE(ForGe @ Mar 25 2011, 07:59 PM)
Hai kelvin thanks for the advice last time..but I never add new thing or interduce anything to my glider..it think that my glider have a memory lost coz when ever I bring them out and when ever I put them back inside their cage they act lake that they don't. Know where they are "stone" for a while like they not use to their own cage n scants...pelik2...
*
Sometime they will even get cautious or alert when they smell or hear something that we don notice.. Like smells of body lotion, detergent, and etc etc...

Yea, it's pretty normal for them to stone in the cage... My gliders always do that.. smile.gif

btw, those two species share same needed is it?

Nope. flying squirrel and sugar gliders are different species. Flying squirrel is rodent, but sugar glider is not. So their needs and diet are diff. smile.gif

Added on March 27, 2011, 11:29 pmIn diet wise, flying squirrel are prone to nuts and seeds type.. but sugar glider require higher protein and fruit-vege based...

Of course there are similarities also, they both are very particular with calcium absorption. So careful with phosphorus intake..

They are very high in curiousity, and they always explore new things. So biting your nail could be just she wanted to see whether it's food or not. It's not a good habit, better stop her from doing that again.

Hello everyone...it's been so long since I have posted in this thread cause I'm busy with my work after finishing my diploma courses and will be more busy with my bachelor's degree later and my mom is really worried about the weight of all the suggies...all 14 of them...they are all over weight..I mean really serious...BUT.... all of them are active and playful.....and when they are in the wheels, their cages will uncontrollable shaking !! biggrin.gif
What I really like about all the suggies are that their fur.... soft, thick and shining and their tail are fluffy..!!
Is my mom over feeding or pampering them or should she cut down their food....??!!.... She has tried cutting down their food intake.... BUT.... she said that looking at them clinging at the cage bars looking at her all the time (when they are awake) with their big black cute eyes and those cute little sounds they made even barking (maybe asking for more) every time she passed or walked by their cages....she just can't bare and felt really sorry for them not to mention the guilty feeling of her towards them, she really felt so....so sorry for them and at the end, she had to give them what they want.....extra amount of food as usual....!
Maybe you guys are wondering what my mom are feeding them...well..these are the lists, according to her...

2 bottles of filtered drinking water (3 bottles in each cages) mix with a few drops of -
i).    LC-Vit* - 1 drinking bottle
ii).    Drinking Water Conditioner* - 1 drinking bottle AND
iii).  Fresh filtered water* - 1 drinking bottle ......................................................All*  daily

3x ......1 to 3 tablespoon ( according to the sizes of the cages) per week of Happy Glider ( All The Favours) + SG Diet with Eucalyptus + RC 34 (once a week) + Yogurt Drops + Dried Mixed Fruit .................measured and mixed together in a bowl before feeding..balance kept in the fridge in an air tight container for the next feeding.

1/2 to 1 coop cups of various types of fresh diced fruits and veggies in each cages daily

HPW..... daily and sometimes mixed it with *blended boiled chicken meat or *fresh fruit juice and sometimes mix both together* and with 1/2 teaspoon of Solvitax(every 2 week once) and also Glider Booster (twice a week only)

2x......per week of mealworms/superworms/crickets lived or canned and sometimes a little bit of Small Carnivore Food mixed with a few drops of Coat-Shine

2x.....2 to 5 tablespoon (according to the sizes of the cages) per week of Gliderade

She's been giving the above to all the suggies for the past 1++ years.....with no complication of conditions or any other problems....except I think of their weight only.....!  whistling.gif rclxub.gif  whistling.gif
P/S.... Good news, my mom said that one of the female is pregnant with twins.. rclxms.gif (always twins, I wonder how to get triplets)...!  whistling.gif
*
Overall seem good, but it would be better if you cut off the cat food. They DON'T need that. It's too high in fat and too hard for gliders. smile.gif

Nope, it cant fit into wobust wheel.

Hi guys, recently a few hours ago my lil' brother finally bought himself a baby Sugar Glider, female type and the seller gave him a pouch for it too. I am kinda worried since this is his (or my whole family), first time to take care this sweet lil' creature.

I know that taking care a Sugar Glider is different than any other pets coz it needs the attention from the owner to interact with 'em constantly or they will be depressed (and die by it - from what I heard from other people?!?).

A couple mins ago my lil' brother has fed it with smashed green apple and a fresh water. Kinda cute to see it eating =3

One of my questions is to you guys;
o How many times do we need to feed it, what type of foods does it eats and the best food's portions (for the baby)?
o Can it sleep in a air-conditioned room and what's the best temperature from keeping it freezing to death?
o Is the barking tells us to feed it or play with it?

By the way, I'm a cat and a turtle owner.
*
Normally they only eat at night, so you can feed at night since they normally sleep during daytime.

Make sure the cold air doesnt blow directly towards the cage, if you worry it's too cold, then just cover the cage with fleece cloth, and put fleece blanket inside the sleeping pouch.

Barking is just a sound to call for companion.. Either calling for cagemate or the owner..

Btw, you shouldn't feed Green apple.. Get a proper diet for sugar glider such as HPW or BML then feed along with proper fruits and vegetables.

Came across a new post at Pet Shack FB page.. I think it's good to share with all sugar glider owners that are using wodent wheel...

'' Wodent Wheels are one of the best creations known to sugar gliders. They are imperative to a glider's need for exercise but do be careful when you purchase these wheels. DO NOT purchase these wheels if they are not sold with the GLIDER GUARD safety feature. This feature is a piece that comes with the wheel that aids in the safety of y...our glider when they run in the wheel. Glider Guards come FREE OF CHARGE with all our Senior Wheels.

The Glider Guard ensures that the hair, tail, or any other fragile parts do not become entangled with the wheel as the glider exercises in the wheel. Without this piece, this can be dangerous for the glider. So, please ask before you purchase! Save yourself and your glider a painful experience that could be prevented just by asking before purchasing.''

I think everyone should be aware of this, as we do not want to see any disastrous incident happen on our gliders... smile.gif

QUOTE(chor88 @ Apr 25 2011, 07:01 PM)
hello all...

im new in this suggie world... but i already read a lot about this suggie including follow this thread... but i want to ask some question that maybe i not fully understand..

i just buy one male suggie from breeder... his name is FaiR... now he 1week 2days with me... atm, i think he not fully bond with me but have improvement from 1day his with me until now... now he doesnt bite me anymore n have sometime crapping when i take his out from sleeping pouch in cage... his also not yet jump on his own to my hand... most of the days his always sleep n will active at midnight around 2-5am... i always spent my time when i wake up from sleep n also play with him at evening around 530-7pm... but he not really active play with me in day time n he always try to jump back to his cage... at night, i play with him around 9pm++ n before i go sleep, i also play with him n 'gosok2' at his back... i realize that around 3-4am, his very active... his jump around in the cage n also play with the wheels inside the cage... for meals, i just give him apple n sometime watermelon (red)... i try to give apple jus(hainze) n also egg castard(hainze) but he dont want to drink/eat that... so, i plan to spent some of money next week (gaji masok) to buy somethings for mu suggie... but i want to ask some question from sifu n others suggie lover:

1) any suggestion for his diet?? fruit, vege, drink, supplement, vitimin, etc... i plan to buy hpw... which is better normal hpw or instant hpw?? it is same?? i dont have blender in here(melaka) unless i go back yo my hometown(perak)...

2) how my timetable i spent with him?? i afraid i dont spent much time with him then make him lonely, bored, etc... i also afraid of self mutilation...

3) i also plan to introduce him to my sister suggie, female n age round 4months atm... any advise??

4) finally, any tips or advise for me to keep this suggie healthy, bond well with me n othrs advise/tips that i miss...

im still learning with this suggie... hope can get help from you guys... i really appreciate it, thanks... really sorry if im ask noob questions and my poor english...
*
Answers for the questions..

1) If you decide on HPW, then go aheaad and grab it. The basic daily diet of the glider should consist of HPW and variety of fruits/vege. Instant HPW and HPW starter kit is the same on nutrition side, the difference is just the way of preparation. If you don have blender or fridge, then you should pick instant hpw.

2) Self mutilation doesnt happen over a day or two, it will only happen when the glider got neglect plus malnutrition for certain period of time. If you are working during daytime, jus hang the glider on your neck at night after working hour.. It shouldnt be any prob..

3) Are they going to be in the same cage permanantly? And four months is still kinda young for the female glider, if your male glider mature faster, then he might rape her and end up pregnant at young age..which is not good for the female glider.. Anyway, an important question is, are you familiar enough with glider breeding? from your questions, it seem like you don even familiar with glider keeping knowledge yet.. so i think it's a bit too early to do glider breeding at this moment.. smile.gif

4) To keep the glider healthy, make sure you provide the proper living environment (cage) and diet. Bonding wise, just spend as much time as you can with the glider. smile.gif

Keep it up. smile.gif

For cage cleaner right i reccomend u guys to try out, Stain & Odour Remover
Safe Deodoriser 500ml from chubby pets garden..i feel it's better than wat i use previously, cage clean..this one doest not have a smell so it wont change the cage to a floral/articifial smell so our gliders wont get stressed out..it cleans easily and removes the odor..
*
Really effective? Then what is the ingredients in the product that can remove all the stain and odour?? Have to study about it first, to make sure it's really safe and won't harm our gliders..

Some of the stain remover products in the market uses too much of strong chemical, effective in cleaning, but harmful to the animal.

Sugar gliders are social animal, they lives in group in nature..

However, we normally recommend beginner to keep one first, bond with the first one and get familiar with glider keeping knowledge, after few months only consider getting the second one.. smile.gif

how old is she? Is the cage and food you provide are appropriate?

Gliders seldom drink plain water as they consume most of the moistures from fruits/veges..

Apples and worms are not complete diet for gliders. Worms provide protein but the fat and phosphorus level is very high... apples kinda high in phosphorus too..

u should adjust the diet in order to provide proper nutrition to the glider... study and research more bout glider diet..
