You are only keeping it for a month, so i guess he is just not familiar and bond with you yet.

Is he an underage or malnourish glider when u took him from breder? If yes, mayb he has gain more strength and energy now as you feeding the correct diet, and now he is able to defend and protect himself..

If he is not, then try to think of anything that you did could contribute to his anxiety and stress? Glider are very alert and sensitive, a small tiny thing that we never tot of could make them frighten.. Such as sounds, any special scents from ur lotion/perfume/detergent...

If he was an underage glider, then perhaps he has gone thru miserable life with the breeder previously, such as staying with a big bunch of joey in one small cage, eating improper food, not getting sufficient nutrition and exercise..

So, you can imagine how stress he is previously and i'm sure he is kinda afraid and feeling insecure too. smile.gif

Spend more time with him, it can be as simple as hanging him with u in a bonding pouch all the time, or as fun as playing with him in a tent..

Glider has mood swing, sometime they will jus throwing tanthrum like 3years old child.. Therefore it's kinda normal if he never eat suddenly for a night, but finish up everything on second day.. smile.gif

Grape is not really a good choice to feed often as it's very high in oxalic acid..make sure u peel off the skin and take off the seeds..

Papaya is good, u can feed everyday but tag along with some high fiber food..otherwise the poop will be soft and smelly..

A lot fruits in malaysia can be fed to gliders, such as rambutan, mango, honeydew, sweet melon, persimmon, watermelon, nangka, ciku, sugar cane, apple, pear, and etc..

May I ask, where can you get those huge (2 stories) cages at a reasonable price and how much? Thanks man!
*
Erm... i don get what u mean by 2 stories..basically those glider cages are categorized by their height.. we hav 3feet (about 100), 4feet (300plus), 4.5feet(300plus), 5feet(500plus) and even bigger...

QUOTE(ForGe @ Jul 21 2010, 08:39 PM)
eric:thanks...last question hope to play with them the proper way...care to explain...
please i afrid that i spent time with him are too rough for him and that make him stress and afrid..but one thing that i love them that evrytime i open the cage he will jump on me or on my hand..do they allways do that..?
*
Erm, when we mentioned bout 'play' with gliders, is actually the 'interaction' between you and the glider.. And there are two ways to get glider to be more familiar with you, either u talk to them, which we cant because we dono their language.. Or let the glider recognize your scent..

Everyone of us has unique body scent, you will need to get your glider to recognize this scent and feel secure with ur own scent.. That's why, do not use any body lotion/perfume/deodorant products when interacting with your glider.

As long as you interact with your glider, playing time can be in various form. For beginners or for those bitey glider, you can initially use bonding pouch first. Zip them inside, and hang them on your chest.. Let them smell you, hear your heart beat and your voice and get familiar with you... After sometime when the glider doesnt really bite and feel more secure with you, you can proceed to next level where you release them in a glider proof room or a tent.. Get them to explore your body, and gain their trust.. Sooner or later, the glider will be ok and rely on you, then you can jus simply bring them with you on ur body, letting them sleep inside ur cloth or your pocket...

It's fun when the glider really ok with you.. When i bring my gliders to college, i don really carry them in the pouch..i normally let them out freely on my body.. they will stand on my bag or my shoulder then running around my body and see see surrounding, after sometime they will goes into my cloth or pocket to sleep.. smile.gif Of course, i still bring a bonding pouch with me for any unexpected event.

For those who are not certain whether the glider will stay quietly on you, better practise more at home first.. I do not want to see any owner lost their glider because they take them out in public and the glider jump away...

Erm, talk bout jumping on you when u open cage..it could be they really take you as good playmate, or it could be jus they wanted to go out of the cage very much.. smile.gif When the glider are bonded with you, i'm sure you can feel the difference.. Look at their big eyes, you will no longer see fear or anxiety in them..

2 stories as in two floors if you have one haha. How about the black one on the first page? How much is it and where can you get it cheap? Thanks in advance man.
*
The black one is 4feet and white one is 4.5feet.. Erm... It comes with few steel ladder where you can put inside the cage with ur own design..By doing this, u can make your cage up to 3-4 stories, even 5....lol..but i never use it because i prefer my glider to jump here and there without any obstacles...Since they prefer jumping gliding rather than crawling the staircase..

As i mentioned b4, 4ft and 4.5ft is bout 300 plus..

QUOTE(ForGe @ Jul 22 2010, 11:09 AM)
eric: woh thank for the long detail..oo no wonder chopper sometime afird coz i have dfrnt scent..so i gues i hve to shower 1st b4 handing him..hehe..

ok sifu i try step at a time to improve our bond..hehe thanks for sharing the exprice
with me... i will update any progres in the near future..later tonignt i will upload some picture.. thank again eric...

glidermama: i cant wait to do all that stuff with him claping their nails and most of all the exprince to come or look when be called..that will be my sweetes moment with him cant wait for all the things to happen to me...!!!

thanks for sharing all the wonderful time u with ur glider with us the mber of this forum....
*
You are mostly welcome. If you know you gonna play with them, then do not use any lotion or perfume on your body.. Wait bout 10-15minutes after shower, then only play with them.. this is because u wanna let the shower gel's scent diminish and ur own body scent will come out.

Be more aware on the thing that you touches or get in contact before handling ur glider, especially those they perceive as predator, such as cats, dogs, birds and etc.. Glider will react aggressively towards all these...

Enjoy and hav fun in the bonding process with your glider... smile.gif

There are few ways to proper introduce your gliders, and jus like the same concept applies on dogs, you let them know the presence of each other and slowly accept one another..

The most common and popular methods that we used is side by side cage and pouch swapping.. Put both cages near, but not too near until they can reach one another (in case if one of them reach their paws and scratch another).. They will see and smell every night, and they will communicate by using their special vocal language..

At the same time, swap their sleepiing pouch and bonding pouch every 2-3days.. This is a very good way to let them get familliar with opposite party's smell..

After 1week, you can try putting them together in a NEUTRAL place..Neutral place as in a place that: 1) doesnt hav owner smell because u do not want ur first glider to be dominant as she is very familliar with ur smell 2) doesnt contain any of both gliders' smell, because u do not want any one of them to be dominant too...

Therefore, ur bedroom, ur glider room are not neutral place yea...

Put them in a neutral place, then see how they react with one another.. Normally they will be alert and sniff one another... If they fight, seperate and put them back at their own pouch.. Do not force them to be together as it will trigger more insecure and anger.. smile.gif

If they fight, then repeat side by side cage and pouch swapping again for another week..

If they don, then u can try putting them in a same sleeping pouch..AND, observe and monitor them at night.. Some gliders gets along well at noon, but will fight for food at nite when they are active..

Monitor them for at least 2-3 days, to make sure they REALLY get along well. smile.gif

huh!? really?
why they forbid Sugar Glider huh? sad.gif  since they so cute and the most important is they are harmless
so no ways for Venus to go to Singapore with me right?  cry.gif
then i need to looking some1 to take care her for me for 4 months!

besides, normally, i think Petshack will be the 1st impression for us if we are looking for any SG's stuff rite?
since they have most of the stuff that we need, with pictures! biggrin.gif
*
Sg banned most of the exotic animals, sugar glider is one of the list. The government does not allow residents there to keep non-domesticated pets..This is because if a huge amount of glider are being abandoned and run freely in the country, it will mess up the balance of ecosystem.. Imagine, a glider mate with a native squirrel, then produce a new species...

Fyi, some countries label glider as pest..

Don try to sneak in glider to sg, you and your glider will be in big trouble if someone report to the authority.. You donwan that to be happened.. I'm going away to UK for few months too next year, without my pets.. T-T

Make sure u find some reliable people to look after for u...

Hi guys...I have a heart-breaking news cry.gif  cry.gif  cry.gif...my mom lost my beloved Bell and Bella( in bonding pouch) this early morning at the bus station while she was getting off the bus to transit to another bus...she was carrying 4 bonding pouches and because she got a lot of things to carry by hand and also was in a hurry (because the bus driver asked everyone to change the bus to another bus). She only realized that one of the pouch was missing when she wants to take a taxi, and another thing is, she came to visit me since there's no one who can take care of my gliders...so.., she brought them along with her. I cried this whole day until my eyes so puffy..Even though my mom has bought me another two joeys to replace my Bell and Bella (and she named them Bell and Bella) they are not the same because each glider has their own personality.........!!!

haiz...wonder wad to do if our glider really get sick...
can call Dr Jenny gv Dr Yeoh a lecture about how to treat gliders and other exotic pets ka? LoL
*
Dr Yeoh is consider knowledgable in glider compared to many other vets... No matter how good a vet is, it's still possible where misdiagnosis happen.. especially in sugar glider..they are just too small and a lot complication in diagnosing them..

QUOTE(Fieqra @ Jul 29 2010, 12:52 PM)

I think Dr Yeoh can treat mites, there are some forum members' glider treated by him before.

its normal for glider after they are waken up from sleep.. is it continuously?
btw, they do eat insect but is it okay for them to be feed with alive cricket that are sold in fishing shop?
*
Make sure u gut load the insects before feeding to ur glider..to make sure it's clean and full of nutrition.

QUOTE(ForGe @ Jul 30 2010, 03:39 AM)
hmm can anyone explained to me why my glider are smaller the the baby glider u see i have 2 glider with me 1 my chopper and the other 1 is my friends i take care of her coz she is an underage joeys but its been a month since i take care of chichi and now chichi are biger then chopper...but chopper are a male glider that 3 month old n chicji are femail glider age are about 2 month++...
any one care to explained what going on here n are my chopper sick or any things.....
*
Just like human, we have slim people and fat people.. Some gliders are born with bigger bone structure and some are smaller.. To determine a glider is sick or not, we shouldnt jus justify by looking at their size.. Routine behavioral, eating appetite, physical symptoms should be taken into account.. smile.gif

When glider immune system goes down, the first thing the body will give out is the skin and coat, because the body wan to reserve the immunity for other major organs and system.. therefore, loss of fur/dull coat/thinning hair are always the first symptom to show up when a glider is sick...

TQ guys..
really appreciate all the advice....

Erm..juz wanna know something..
is there any different between mealworm, superworm, waxworm, etc..?
i never give her any other insects unless mealworms...is it ok?
*
There are difference between all kind of insects.. Their phosphorus protein and fat content are all vary.

Not only that, the same mealworm in different life stages (pupae, worms, beetle, eggs) will have different nutritional analysis too..

Amount of insects feeding really depend on the diet that you are using. If you are HPW user, u do not need to feed insects because HPW has given sufficient protein to your glider. Instead, we use insects as treats.. jus one or two in a day...

If i don remember wrong, Emino's glider was neutered there. And, the operation turned out well.

Erm, so far i never heard any complaints or negative reviews about Dr Yeoh yet..Jus don't know why lately some people suddenly popped out and talked bad bout him.. Never really visited him b4 though, so i can jus give opinion from information i could get. smile.gif

And, i asked Dr Jenny bout Dr Yeoh b4, she did mention he is a good one though... smile.gif

Teddy was neutered by Dr. Yeoh nearly 3 years ago. He's still here, happy and healthy. In fact he is healthier after being neutered.
Be warned though. Dr. Yeoh's method is different than Dr. Jenny's. Dr. Yeoh removed the entire ball sack, while Dr. Jenny keeps it.
*
Dr Jenny can do in both way actually, either remove the whole balls str8 a way or jus cut the vas deferens...

QUOTE(allenna @ Aug 10 2010, 07:25 PM)
Hello everyone....We need someone's advise regarding sugar glider's weight. Ever since we bought the digital scale we have been monitoring and recording their weight. Our Peanut's weight increases by 6 grams (142grams -> 148grams) Twileena's 5 grams (87grams -> 92 grams). Mia's weight increase by 3 grams ONLY (92 grams -> 95 grams).  Apple and Gizmo their weight are the same as before. As for the growing joeys increases by 3 - 5 grams within 4 days.

My first question is ....
1.    Is Peanut overweight...he is very hyper active little guy.. and we do provided them.... each cages with wodent wheels, cage accessories and toys except for the 4 feet cage which we installed 2 wodent wheels in it for them.

2nd question.......
Ever since Mia's pregnant , we only use suggie hammock instead of the sleeping pouch for them to sleep in and her nails always got caught tangled in it. I'm afraid to clipped her nails due to her pregnancy n lactation and we don't want her to be stressed out. Any suggestions on how or there's a way to clipped her nails without stressing her...??? icon_question.gif

3rd. question.......
Is it true that we have to provide a large hammock in the middle of the cage ( 3' cage) to prevent joeys from falling and no wodent wheel during the pregnancy....If there is no wheel, how does the male does his exercise  activities..??!!  blink.gif  blink.gif

TQ.

Allenna's mom
*
Question 1 - If he is still active and play jump glide around, then it shouldn't be obesity. I ever seen an obesed glider before, he is fat until i cant really know whether it's glider or not, and he sit there all day long eating kuaci..don even wan to move a little... However, 148g and still increasing.. u better monitor closely on the weight, if increase again the u might need to cut down a little bit of the protein given to them.. When they grow elder, the amount of protein needed should be reduce too actually..

Question 2 - You can still clip the nail actually if the glider is very familiar with you.. smile.gif Do it more gently...

Question 3- We always suggest owner to do whatever precaution steps to eliminate the possibility of accident happening... Better safe than sorry.. A large hammock is good, esp when the joey is OOP already..as sometime although they cling on mothers back, but they may jus fall off when the mom jump suddenly..

From what I discussed with Dr Jenny last time, she advised that we removed the wheel when the joey is OOP.. during in pouch period, you can still let them enjoy playing the wheel.. smile.gif

Erm. perhaps you can look around in Pets Store section, not here. smile.gif

Keeping glider isn't cheap hobby, it can cost u a bomb especially for the first time cost (i assume you are getting the correct size of cage, diet, supplements and etc)..

So, think twice..

Hi guys..
i had problem wit my glider..
B4 dis,her hair loss r getting worse until i can c her pinky abdomen, tiny tails n both hind legs.. sad.gif

I already brought her to meet Dr Yeoh n amazingly Dr Yeoh said there is no mites on her skin even parasites or anything else..
But he said dat my suggie r depressed n need frenz..
She had mulnutrition problem when my cousin give her to me 3 months ago.Her weight only about 8-10 gm n the seller said she was already 3 month.i think the seller r commercial breeder..doesnt know much about SG

Now her weight is 36.8gm with 6 month old..
But im also being so stress to c she doesnt want to finish her food..she only eat half the suggieslurp n not eat the fruits at all.. icon_question.gif  icon_question.gif  icon_question.gif
B4 dis she very like the mealworms n due to some problem,i had changed it to superworm n sadly, she juz smell it even i already pinch the head off n make it look so juicy...huhu............
Im so worried to get frenz for her..worry if the male glider will breed with her even she doesnt want it..it will make her become more stress rite?

Plez.....help....im so worried.....feels like im a bad owner..do know how to make my suggie healthy.. cry.gif  rclxub.gif  mega_shok.gif
*
36.8gm for 6months is really underweight... Why don't you give Wombaroo Milk Replacer a try? It's easier to digest for those underaged glider or malnutrition glider.. You will need to syringe feed the glider every 2-3 hours, because her stomach is not fully develop yet, she cant finish the food at a time as how other normal glider does..

Dont really think you should breed this glider, now and future as well, because of her maldevelopment at young age, pregnancy and nursing period will jus bring more harm to the baby and herself...

You can get a female companion for her, but i think now is not the right time.. You should adjust her weight back to normal and make sure she is getting healthier first.. Otherwise, the introduction process of new glider might distress her more...

Heya SG Sifus.... I was wondering and a little concern. I've bonded with my girl suggie and now I'm thinking is ok that she is all alone in her big cage while I'm at work everyday. You see I get home around 8pm everyday and I'll play with her till maybe 10pm++...then I'm off to bed or to do my stuff.... should i get her a friend ? I dont want her to be lonely.
*
Erm... There is no answer for this question actually.. There are people who keep single glider for years, and nothing happen.. But there are people who prefer to keep them in pair/group because they are social animal in nature...

I am more on the later group of people, prefer to keep them in pair or get them at least one companion. Keeping single glider esp male glider will lead to higher risk of self mutilation due to loneliness problem because of the hormon secretion and all.. Although yours is a female glider, but getting her a companion actually bring more pro than cons.. We are human, they are glider, no matter how much time and effort we gave them, the bonding between owner glider and between gliders themselves are totally different. For example: we are not nocturnal, it's almost impossible for us to accompany them for whole night when they are active... We cant sleep with them, cuddle with them in a sleeping pouch... we don speak glider language, we cant communicate with them using hissing/crabbing/barking/chattering.. we cant stand on the food bowl and eat together with tthe gliders.. we cant glide and run over the wheel like gliders too...

You see, there are so much thing that we cant do and share with the gliders... And imagine, it must be really fun to have another glider to share the happy moment with ur glider in the cage...

However, my advice for you to get a companion does not mean u must get an opposite sex glider or u must get it asap... Again, i must stress again on the complexity of glider breeding, you only go into breeding when you are mentally/physically/financially/ whatever-lly ready...

If you are not into breeding, then getting a female glider as her companion would be great as you wont have odour/bald spot/marking problem in the future with male glider. Don rush in getting a glider though, look around, research and find a good breeder.. Make sure you get a healthy and fully weaned glider from a reputable breeder...

And before that, make sure u study bout the ways to proper introduce the gliders too yea.. smile.gif

Yes, keeping gliders in coconut shell for long time will stain their fur.. and they will become more shell protective too. Please, get a sleeping pouch and change asap..

Since it's 10weeks old which i assume they are fully weaned, you should decide asap on the diet and start feeding already..

They need protein daily, and fruits doesnt provide them sufficient protein tht they need..

I'm using Bugsy HPW diet for quite some time, and the result is really good smile.gif. Strongly recommend, and it's much easier to get since alot petshops are selling too.. smile.gif

If you arent certain whether the fruits/vege is safe or not, then better don feed then... They won't die without tasting the particular food.. You would not want to take the risk..
