Yes, you are right! You are able to download the 7GB (huge file) now and activate at 27th july 2010.

im not too sure but, i think the cd-key will be tied to your battlenet account. u can download the client itself and install it, but you still need to login with ur bnet account to play, single player or multiplayer. ala WoW style.

(not too sure about single player tho)

I don't think so you need to have internet connection for single play, you only need to authenticate it the first time online and the rest you can play offline.

I think it's similar to Steam, where you connect online once, then, you can play without internet connection, with the expense of not getting your achievements.

Nope, the subscription based is only in Korea and Russia if I am not mistaken. The reason why the price of a standard copy of starcraft II is pricey (RM248) is due to the cost of setting up the server. It's free and unlimited to play in battle.net.
