oooo.

yes, copy all the files (new steam, via deimos old client at mediafire) into your steam (cannot update, dunno why) except for the steam apps folder.

A bit off topic, but I didn't really want to start a new topic for this:

I'm having trouble updating my Steam. Every time it starts, it just says Updating Steam - 0% and doesn't move. sad.gif

I tried deleting the ClientRegistry.blob but it just repeats itself. Any help?

not really off topic since is related to steam.
and many people post problem about their steam in here.

regarding your steam not updating, is it a clean install steam or existing steam client?

feb 2010? that's like 5 months back. should not have any problems mah.

did you open these ports?

QUOTE
Which ports must be open in order to use Steam?

The following ports must be open in your firewall and router for Steam and Steam Games to work:

UDP 1200    (used for friends service)
UDP 27000 to 27015 inclusive
TCP 27020 to 27039 inclusive
TCP 27040 and 27041 only for CyberCafe Owners

Computers running Dedicated Servers need these ports open:

UDP: 27015 and 27020 (default HLDS, SRCDS and HLTV port)
TCP: 27015 (SRCDS Rcon port)

If your server uses a different hostport then you will need to adjust the above accordingly.

For help on port forwarding for your Router, please consult this excellent website: http://www.portforward.com.

For assistance with your Firewall you will need to go to the support site for your particular Firewall.

NOTE: Windows XP SP1 firewall does not require any specific configuration changes for Steam Clients to work, but for Source Dedicated Servers you must open TCP Port 27015 (or whichever port your server is using) for RCON to work!

A lot of people did have problems connecting to steam. If you have problems , here are few simple steps you can follow

1) Run hotspot shield , connect

2) Connect to steam (dont bother with your username/password , make sure that its remembered automatically. Username and password are hashed. You dont get hacked like that. Its only if you're dumb enough to click on some random link by some random script kiddie)

3. Let steam update , it will download some large junk files from US Server (for some reason our Malaysian IP gets routed to another steam server which is busy most of the time)

4. Exit steam , disconnect hotspot shield and connect normally, you should able to sign in without problem

If deimos' steam thingy fails. Worked for a lot of people

No malaysian/asian players = fail , I will not buy

Anyway , secure your steam account guys. Lately there have been a lot of cases whereby people steal your account. It happens if you're too stupid , no doubt i.e clicking on some unknown link or giving away your username and password

Again if there is not any MY/SG/TH servers , I wouldn't want to play. I dont want to play HK or CN servers because people hardly speak english. Communicating through Mandarin may suck for me and on top of that I dont know how to speak Cantonese. So its a no go for me.

How many times it has been said. Latency != Speed. I can give you an example , 3G Wireless Broadband. Sure you can get 5Mbps download , but the minimum latency to a TF2 server is around 90ms , oh there are packet losses too. Anyway , the AAG should reduce the latency , (Asian-American gateway). Direct link from asia to US , instead of going through Europe/Africa.

Playing with Europeans may be fun , but then you've a language barrier. I dont mind playing with them , but trust me . Some of them dont know a word of english , nor understand the command of "fall back and back me up". Unless its a UK server , then its another issue. Oh did I say , that they do kick non-European IPs , some servers to do that. In other words , a lot of complexity.

I wanted to buy red Orchestra too , a good game indeed but then there weren't any local players. If it had SP , I might buy it for SP , sadly it only has MP

gogo2 , well said.
