I had good memories with Serious Sam series back then when it first came out. It was one of the funnest mindless FPs killing spree. Playing with a friend is a must else you'd be bored unless you like mindless killing.
The first bull charge which knock me all over the place was a blast. and encountering suicidal-headless-bombers had me running all over. And huge arse boss battle had me gawking under it.
I tried HD in CC, nothing really new with graphics just some polishing up. Buy it if yo haven't play it.. or pass if you did. Not missing anything. cept for novelty.
Compare to the old Serious Sam? There's a whole lot of difference in the graphics.
The first Serious Sam was directX7 engine, so there's no any programmable shaders or any dynamic effects. Everything is pre-rendered onto the texture, the lighting effects and shadows are all pre-rendered. If you take away a light source, the shadow and lighting effects on the wall will still remain because they are already pre-rendered on the wall texture.
In Serious Engine 3, most of the lighting are dynamic real time lighting, shadows are real time shadow. Of course there are many other effects as well, using pixel shader, advance reflection and other graphical effects.
And there's also real time physics.
The only serious sam game that is close to current engine is the 3rd one, Serious Sam 2.
