I upgraded to new firmware yesterday. Not much changes on the GUI itself. I able to watch some of the mkv files which previously failed and the the seek function during playback is working again.
*
Can it play mkv file with high reframe rate ( > 15 )? Thanks.

Hi my friend, actually AC Ryan can fullfil most of customers requirement. But for some high-end requirement, you may look for a bit high-end player. Coming up from AC Ryan is Fluxx, high-end and HD2, a bit high-end. AC Ryan will have its own streaming media like Netflix. So, hope these models can fullfil your requirement.

Hi guys - need some assistance - I have not updated my set since I first bought it a year ago. Can I flash it to the latest firmware or do it need to do it in stages ?

BTW why is it that I have to connect and disconnect the HDMI to get sound ? Thanks

Aiyoh...at the rate they're going about POHD firmwares and non delivery of SDK4 GUI 2.0, I won't hope too much on anymore AC Ryans. This will be my first and LAST until maybe 3 years down the road when the technology appears to be more mature. Anyone can say don't expect too much for what we pay for but, I think its currently just too boring in the area of multimedia streaming features..don't even have youtube, but again all limted by our own broadband limitations, save Unifi for bare miminum.

best would be to get a high end htpc and get a pro to setup and install your system and hand it to you ...........all your streaming needs and downloads and music and library ........ all kawtim. oh make sure to engage the installer to comeback every half yr to do system/codec updates

or just buy a blu-ray player and buy blu-ray movies.

Added on January 25, 2011, 11:31 amimho the acryan is just a mid-range media player and it shows. everyone have different expectation and you should be aware of it's limitation before buying it. to be honest when you walk around low yat the acryan seems to be one of the best option available at it's price range. not many to choose fr right? i was scouting for a player for a fren recently and what find very few options for 300-500 price range.

Agree with you bro. I don't need a high end player either. But this ryan doesn't seem to play most of the 1080p files bigger than 8GB.
The cheaper competitor can play everything thrown at it, even the 1080p x2 (3D) mkvs.

I think the fault lies with Realtek too. I'm with the opinion, they come out with a chip design very cheaply, let the companies who implement it take up the burden of all support, firmware and the brunt of owners. I think Realtek never realised the barrage of complaints or desire of users with high expectations for performance. Realtek had bungled with the earlier RTL1073 chip without the TrueHD, then came out with the +version of the chip. This isn't like AMD or Intel CPU which a 3 minute swap solves the problem or other shortcomings. The bloomin chip is soldered permanently and beyond any possible DIY swap. It lives and dies with the pcb. Throw away buy new.
MY 2 Sen....own view, thats that. Bah!...no more Realtek crap for me..it'll be something else hereon. The problems are really unreal. cry.gif

thats why don't pay too much for "branded" player.

1073DD,C+ old new chipset can decode truehd. only C+ can passtru
Realtek still best selling in market.

It is not about paying too much or not. It's the requirement that counts.

Let's put it this way,...not a single player, I believe can fulfill every buyer. smile.gif

Hi pal, it seems that something wrong either with hard disk or files. Because we hv tested a lot of mkv files, even original bluray ripped files, POHD play smoothly. Can u double check what go wrong? We are here to help u pal.

'Branded' it means this company does more than others, try every effort to get the thing better, more quality and most of the people accept it and it becomes well-known. These all involve expenses and a price must pay. So, we are living around with branded and non-branded goods and services. If we can afford, of course, we will seeking better goods and services. So, there is nothing wrong with 'branded' items. Don't forget, Bro YangXi always introduces his goods and services, and he is doing a branding process. Let's don't critize the 'branded', who know, one day, u are the 'brand'. tongue.gif

Early of March, most probably. Price is about RM100 higher than current models. So, current models not discontinue yet, depend on your budget.

I was planning on buying a second POHD but the several units tested in the shop failed to play all the sample files I brought in. They were embarrassed badly. Then I asked to play on "the other" brand player, and it played all of them smoothly. To be honest, I give up already. Too bad, coz the interface and features are so good.
Maybe 10 years later I will revisit POHD smile.gif

NBTD today, so I racked up a DIY 12VDC 2Amp linear regulated PSU from some parts and kit I have and pumped into the POHD.
Did some AB tests with some Hires dvdrips and I can say the linear PSU does have some improvement in picture detail and dynamics, by some percentage. I think I'm not looking back and bin the wall wart adapter for the linear PSU. I know switching psu's technically ain't good for AV stuff and a economical measure.

Really weird. So, can we meet up to sort out what's going wrong? It is important to us to find out the problem. I really hard to believe that others brand can play but POHD cannot since all of them using Realtek same chipset. blink.gif
