External DVD drive will interface and work, play DVD's, but NOT audio CD!
No-one have given me a logical answer todate. Its rediculous! How you feel if your PC can't play audio CD?
Even the cheapest DVD player on earth from middle kingdom will play audio CD flawlessly.
Anyway, I can only think it should play Bluray but unsure if there's region coding issues. I've nothing to test in this area so I also want to know how eh?

Of course I KNOW THAT!... but anyone would desire or may insist full compatibility since you've an external drive connected to the AC Ryan or any other media box for that matter. Since its patched to it like the same you patch a USB drive to any PC or laptop, it'll be good to play anything as long as the drive reads any disc, but this AC Ryan refuse to play audio CD, just can't see why not.
My conclusion is that this AC Ryan isn't for highest expectations, fussy users but merely to play a great number of common media files.. plug n play, just don't be fussy it can't play 30 frames per minute or can't stream Youtube.
Just my own opinion...doesn't reflect anyone else's. smile.gif

Hi guys,

I must be one of the few very basic users of POHD and Mini, so need to ask a probably repeated question...

Which USB wireless dongle should I get?
Where best to buy, aprrox price?
Is procedure to install complex?

Was just thinking of internet radio, direct dwnlding, light streaming - with 1MB speed.

THnak you very very much!! notworthy.gif

You can try find some dongle that use Realtek wifi chip, RTL8191, 8192 and its variants. Asus USB N10 is one of them and used with success.
Its not difficult, just plug in and connect/configure like your PC to wireless. This however, takes up ONE USB port near full time if you like to leave it there or buy a hub with more USB ports if you like to connect other peripherals to it.
There's also sellers here in this forum who sell compatible dongles for reasonable price.
other than that, there's nothing really great about wifi'ing this box, other than weather, internet radio. I found it boring actually but just a bonus feature, no online firmware updates yet.

You can look at this link as an example of Bug Fixes by Xtreamer pro (FW 2.4.2) for this compression problem - post #1326 by Hdwarexpert. :-

http://forum.lowyat.net/topic/1060841/+1320

Mede8er also has this problem which need FW fix and I even heard from a WD Live user , he has to use a third party fix to get his player to play these problem MKV (don't know if his problem is related to the Compressed Header problem or not).

Toy Story 3? Got picture no sound issue? Previously WDTV Live also got the issue...after they updated the firmware, all these issues resolved.

Got my POHD mini from Digital Mall, they are very cham one I think all very little margin, so not going to disclose how much I get. But it's very cheap. Anyone who likes to know just PM me, I will reply one.

First I try is not that stable because I put it on top of my amp which is already quite hot. It's my fault so put after I put in some where colder and it run smooth and response quickly.

Nothing to complain about great VQ,SQ, and I will learn from the sifu here to mod this in future.

First of all, a media box, is not a PC. And the capability to attach an external drive for sure its a bonus for any media player.
Come on, we pay so little and expect to get a monster to replace all functions perform by a PC.
I am really happy now, even with all this handicaps consider the price I paid.

yes, yes, yes!!

i used to spend a lot on all kinds of dvds, must be a couple of thousand of them. since I got the pohds, i have not bought a single dvd. oK, some blurays that I really wanna watch at the best video and audio, wanna keep. old dvds, probably worthless now.

even for tv series, i used to watch avi type via usb-dvd player but now using pohd gives a smother picture. if mkv, superb, a new experience in tv series! now got 2 dvd players hardly used, except for old CDs.

guess it's bye-bye to dvds. come think of it, before this www and media files thingy, few understood how it works. now, it appears a little silly that we paid so much for those 0s and 1s on a piece of plastic while the reality is they are easily transfered. ok, copyright issues is something else... tongue.gif
