No I didnt flash my radio but I did flash the Facebook thingy on LeeDroid main page. I get FB to work but not Friend Stream.

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=724123
*
Its ok. FriendStream aint exactly what i need. smile.gif Well, the OpenDesire did suggest flashing the rom though. Maybe i should just try it.

Btw, anyone here had problem with FB for Android before? Try login to your account, then log out and login to another person's account again. Mine got stuck in the screen where it says "Connecting..." forever. If i kill the program and login to my own account, its ok. Only when switching account it fails.

How come I cant find Google Earth on Market anymore?
*
Would love to get that as well. Anyway, found a pretty detailed website on how to do it with Unrevoked.

http://rootmydroid.co.uk/guides/desire/how...our-htc-desire/

Doing it now. Hopefully in a few minutes time, i can finish update my ROM as well smile.gif

*edit* OK, i just rooted the Desire with Unrevoked3 just now. Follow the link shown above for the steps and its very very easy. Time to find a ROM and flash smile.gif

Guys, how do i know my phone had been rooted or not? I completed all the steps, and even Unrevoked is showing done. But when i start Titanium Backup, it says, i dont have root priveledge.

Btw, do i need to change the .zip file for OpenDesire Froyo name to update.zip or the existing name is ok? Did you change the LeeDroid zip file name?

**Edited : Flashing to ROM done! Now running on OpenDesire Froyo. smile.gif Its indeed very easy smile.gif

Dont do anything to the zip file. Just put them in your sdcard and you're good to go. It will read the zip as it is. My first attempt, I unzip everything and put into my sdcard, that didnt work.

probably froyo will be released on august (beginning or middle), of course u can flash the official rom when htc has released it and become unrooted automatically (but u will probably not be able to root again for some time or never, i dont know). you need to update the radio if u are gonna flash froyo rom in order to work properly.
i think my guide is quite simple to understand and follow than any other guides, cuz i really typed what i did when rooting my phone.  tongue.gif
partitioning is necessary in order to use a2sd or a2sd+ to work. a2sd/a2sd+ is much better than native froyo a2sd since not all applications from market has feature to move the apps to sd card (so native a2sd is like useless) and most of custom roms are using a2sd/a2sd+. native a2sd doesnt need partitioning.

dark is good.. biggrin.gif
try to install market enabler.
thanks bro for ur compliment. sorry i didnt reply ur pm last night. i was already asleep. but i think u managed ur problem now.. that's good for u.
as like i mentioned before, all froyo sense roms still have bugs.

download Swype 1.56

Added on July 27, 2010, 1:12 pm
1. i dont use colornote
2. probably facebook has a problem at the moment if i'm not mistaken, right?
3. i have answered it (check above) if u still find a problem, there must be bugs on the rom cuz i use swype now n working perfectly.
4. probably because of bugs from the rom
*
Yea bro. Your guide is easy enough but like i say, there is just too many versions out there that says things slightly differently. Probably in the end the result is the same smile.gif

Btw, it would be better if you could include flashing of ROM and Radio in it as well smile.gif

For now, i am sticking with native App2SD. I was just thinking about rooting just to have a feel on what Froyo could offer and once the official one is released, i am most probably gonna shift to that one unless of course the custom ones became way more stable than what they are at the moment smile.gif

Btw, anyone here using OpenDesire Froyo? Anyone have any problem on formatting SD card? It seems to hang everytime i tried to format my SD. and after that, my SD is corrupted.

yes, i have a guide to flash rom and radio. i think u really need to explore my blog (next to home tab there is Android-WinMo, just click that tab).

opendesire froyo sense rom need some tweaks to work properly.
*
Ah..Probably i didnt explore enough tongue.gif

Well, for some reason it just wont format my SD. I can format it via my PC but again, i was thinking if format via phone would be better. Oh well, if its still giving me trouble, i gotta shift to other ROM i guess. Or just unroot it back tongue.gif

Here is short guide smile.gif

Rooted using the unrEVOked one click root. Then installed Titanium Backup and backed up everything (including backing up SD Card manually!! - copy from card reader into your hdd)

Downloaded ROM Manager from the Market to create partition.

Went to recovery via unrEvoked and did a nandroid backup. Wipe everything, then flashed 1.6 of LeeDroid and the radio update.

Once it had booted just setup my gmail account so I could access the market, downloaded Titanium Backup again and restored everything. Another reboot and everything is back to pretty much as it was before - think I just had to sort out a few widgets.

Please move the apps that you use as widgets on your home screens into the phone storage.
*
Question, could you list down step by step on how to create the partition? As in what partition is needed and whats the space?

For Titanium Backup, i tried it just now and it never worked. I rooted with Unrevoked and started Titanium Backup, it did not detect that i am rooted, thus, not allowing me to backup.

QUOTE(maliqu3 @ Jul 27 2010, 02:23 PM)
i wonder what u did to ur sd? did u format ur sd from settings or recovery? what are u trying to do with ur sd anyway? partitioning?
*
I did nothing. I just basically wanted to format the SD card by going to Settings -> SD & Storage -> Unmount SD -> Format SD. Then, it brings me to a page that says "Erase Everything" and it is stuck there. When you click on anything else, it just says "Force Close" or "Wait". And if you force close, the card will be corrupted. Need to format using PC. I tried that multiple times though.

Simple, just downdload ROM Manager after you have rooted with unrEVOked. You will have the clockworkmod recovery installed. Then when you start the ROM Manager it'll ask you to download clockworkmod, not sure why. But they'll ask you. Once you have done that, then go to Partition SD Card and choose Swap 0 and size 512mb and it'll create the partition.

Do no format via other method as the ROM Manager will do everything for you.
*
So, the partition is basically needed for? Whats the problem if we dont have the partition?

QUOTE(maliqu3 @ Jul 27 2010, 02:39 PM)
let me tell u something, after u flash custom rom that has feature a2sd/a2sd+ (not native a2sd), you should not format ur sd card from settings. and u better not format ur sd card after ur first booted after flashing rom. if u really want to format sd card, do it in recovery after u flash the rom and then reboot it.
*
Ah, i didn't know that. Not sure whethear mine come with non-native A2sd or not though. I already formatted it. Probably i should reboot in recovery and format the SD again. Thanks.

as i told u partition is needed, cuz it will save u lots of space and it works for all apps and games (not like native a2sd which not all apps n games support this feature). if u dont have partition, then u better start partitioning.
*
Yea, just realised i had to. Thought i could skip that step if i am not into app2sd+. Gonna start doing partition now. Do i have to reflash again or i can just do partition?

most ROM should have it, the native apps2sd is... crap the one that comes with FroYo. If you don't do the ext3 partition and when you install a ROM with this feature, you'll end up on a boot loop!
*
QUOTE(maliqu3 @ Jul 27 2010, 02:47 PM)
for best result: u reflash the rom again. after that flash radio(if necessary), and then install ROM Manager from market (do partitioning from rom manager)
*
Ok. Thank you so much guys. Gonna do ROM reflash again then smile.gif So, using rom manager, basically the partition needed is just the Swap0 512MB right?

Edited:

Ok, just done a reflash and this time, a partition as well. But question, when i want to install programs, will it automatically go into the partition instead of the main memory?

becareful when storing all of your apps in SD, the apps that have widgets on your homescreens will not work when you mount your sd on to your computer, on when booting up.

QUOTE(maliqu3 @ Jul 27 2010, 03:28 PM)
it depends on ur rom. to check it, go to m.flash.com from ur phone browser and see what it says.
*
Now, how do i check whether i have non-native app2sd or not? I am feeling i dont have it on the OpenDesire Froyo cause i installed apps just now and its showing me low space.

did u install opendesire froyo sense? if u installed this rom, u need some tweaks to work properly about this a2sd. just try to flash other rom first like leedroid or opendesire without sense. normally, if u succeeded partitioning, ur internal memory will be around 140mb (that's why please install rom manager and do partitioning first b4 u install any apps).
*
I actually did install the Rom manager and partition all of them. Guess its the OpenDesire Froyo Sense problem then. Already downloading LeeDroid at the moment. Gonna flash to that when i am done. Thanks.

oh really, then it's ur internal memory now. try to install apps, and see if it reduces a lil bit, then ur a2sd is working. u have to know, everytime u install apps, ur internal may reduce but only a lil bit. but still, u can install more apps than without rooting it.
you can do nandroid backup first b4 u flash any custom roms. u dont hv to flash custom rom immediately, but what is ur purpose by rooting it?
*
Its reducing quite alot though. Installed quite a number of aps, bout 20+ and now its down to 82MB. Btw, some of them are installed using Astro. Would that install directly to internal memory?

haha, u install more than 20 apps? of course u will lose that much, but still unrooted phone wont have that much space after installing so many apps. all the apps u installed will go to sd card automatically.
yeah, you are right. but i believe it wont be as smooth as sense on htc desire. samsung galaxy s and desire has the same performance in processor. that's why i've been telling u, galaxy s wins over the screen and internal memory only. desire has more ram n sense.
and galaxy s is just too big, i cant fit it in my jeans.
*
Well, yea. I cant live with alot of apps tongue.gif At least the starting free space are sufficient now smile.gif After installing all of my apps, which is close to 30+ including games, i still have about 50+MB which is good enough smile.gif

30+ games? What you install la, bro? So many games meh? I am so tempted with the paid app / games now.

By the way, my Market are separated into 3 vertical categories:
PAID APPS, FREE APPS, JUST IN.

How do I change it back to:
APP, GAME, DOWNLOAD? <--- Original view.

Cause I change the Market Enabler and Market Access to 50212 (original value), the view still wont change back to the original view.
*
Not just games lar. Free apps + free games tongue.gif Basically just click all the popular stuffs in the market. LOL.. And some live wallpapers + stuffs you can find in XDA smile.gif

Not true.

I used this method to root my phone and flash it with LeeDroid 1.6 (Froyo 2.2) and then have Swype 1.56 installed and it worked flawlessly. In fact, even better than the previous 2.1 and prev version of Swype.
*
Can you teach me how did you get Swype to work? Installed 1.56, change the setting in Keyboard & Layout and enabled Swype. But i cant see it in Messages.

There isnt so much different in my opinion between those two and i would not mind if getting a lower contrast ratio compared to when using AMOLED. Since SLCD has a lower battery impact, i would go for SLCD. I guess the next flagship for HTC is also not gonna be on AMOLED and the currebt US flagship htc Evo is also not AMOLED, so im voting for SLCD then. I hope that HTC knows what they are doing.

btw, there arent any phones out there using SLCD currently ait? Im confused with IPS btw, is it an LCD with IPS technology or is it considered an IPS screen?
*
If its the same as an LCD monitor, then IPS is basically the panel of the LCD screen. LCD comes with many different panel and the most common one is TN. IPS is better cause it comes with better contrast / color accuracy as well as a better viewing angle.

I have my doubts on the lower battery usage claim on the SLCD. So far, there is no exact test in comparison between both LCD type and the advantages said for SLCD, was never said to be in comparison with AMOLED. Its could as well be in comparison with the current common LCD.
