i use revoked.

it will just do the rooting job.. the rom need to be installed separately.. i used modaco..
*
So, anything to take note of Unrevoked? Is it just download the software from their site, click, and it will be rooted directly? How good is Modaco? Anyone here on OpenDesire? That look quite interesting. And anything to take note when picking a ROM? Looking for something with Sense, and would be even better if its the leaked official Froyo from HTC smile.gif

i used unrevoked method to root and my phone is working as normal though. I tried using rom manager to flash before but the phone just restart and go into recovery. Not sure this is normal or not. so until today i flash roms in recovery. simple as it is, i just select the zip file i want to flash and just flash it.  laugh.gif

pluginbaby.. 1.4c is out.. weird part is i never had any issues with the usb connect to pc though.. yaya the space in ext3 reduced when i installed apps.. so i just assume that apps are installed in sd card then..  sweat.gif
*
Thanks alot. I am almost certain i am sticking with Unrevoked for now due to its simplicity. Still choosing the ROM from XDA though. Hopefully there is no mistake, scared i end up with a bricked phone sad.gif

Btw, which ORI RUU you guys downloaded from this : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=695667

Which is the standard ROM we are using at the moment?

only one note. even a noob can root the phone with unrevoked.

on ur question abt modaco. im not sure whether its good or not, cause i havent tried any other roms. but so far no problem.
*
Modaco ROM needed to pay right? Whats the good thing about them that you choose them in the first place and are they worth the price? Btw, how to check what bootloader we are using?

Transcend MicroSD CL2 8GB is RM57 while 16GB is RM129.

SANDISK SDHC 8GB is RM58 while 16GB is RM110.
SANDISK SDHC ULTRA 8GB RM99 while 16GB RM189.

i also want to know bout the performance... I still using the stock 2GB provided by Maxis... tongue.gif
*
I got one microSDHC 8GB Kingston Class 4 here in the Garage Sales for roughly about the same price ~ RM60+. I would recomment that though compared to the Class 2 Transcend.

THanks. That is just a precautionary backup in case wanted to flash back to original ROM right?

QUOTE(CKHong @ Jul 22 2010, 01:36 PM)

if froyo works great on CL2.. i'm getting the CL2 16GB.. since its much more cheaper~~~~~
felt that 8GB macam not enuff space for me..  ish..
SANDISK SDHC 8GB is RM58 while 16GB is RM110.
SANDISK SDHC ULTRA 8GB RM99 while 16GB RM189.
This 2 is CL2 as well ??

Is it confirm that htc desire can support SDHC ?? smile.gif

Sorry guys & gals, just to ask a stupid question (bcoz i hv not get my Desire yet),
Desire uses SDHC or Micro SD memory card? As far as i know SDHC & Micro SD r different, arent they?
Or Desire has 2 slots?  hmm.gif

microSDHC. Thats the correct card. The SDHC only indicate HIGH CAPACITY which is for anything above 8gb.

Question here guys, i have been reading XDA a little bit and confused about the App2SD feature. I thought that was defaulted in Froyo? Why do some of the post there have written concerns about choosing a new App2SD or old version etc. Aren't they all the same on Froyo?

I got mine, months ago at Sri Computer LYP. They dont really know about Class 6 but i remember they have a shelf of memory card outsite their "market" lane. Take a look there for Class 6. Mine was Sandisk Class 6.

Yup, in case u want to flash back the original ROM. Always prepare for backup  icon_rolleyes.gif
*
Just trying to make things clear. I went through some post in XDA, and saw one in regards to flashing back to original ROM for warranty. This is the steps given :

The Guide:

1. Make sure your goldcard is in your phone (If Required-if your phone is branded)
2. Turn your Desire on
3. Connect it to a Windows PC
4. Run the HTC RUU
5. Let it run
6. & YOUR DONE!

Question, the title says "How to Unroot your HTC Desire to stock" but according to the steps there, its basically just run the Original RUU. So, by flashing back to the Original RUU, i will automatically "unroot" it back?

Just tested it out. To be honest, i have the same feeling. Its basically the stock player. Only thing that seems to make it better is the PC app, that allows it to sync just like the iTunes. Other than that, its just a stock music app on the Android. Needed something much better than this.

Well, 2 things is currently halting me from flashing to Froyo. Hopefully you guys can help me here.

1) How many apps currently are actually Froyo able? I really do not like the idea of using any App2SD other than the native Froyo version and i did a search over at the Market, and it seems quite a number of them do state, compatible with Froyo. Does this mean they can install to SD via the native App2SD?

2) I always thought Froyo was suppose to be more battery saving but it seems otherwise. Many did say Froyo consume more battery than the Eclair. Is that true? I came from a 1 day battery life Diamond to about 2 days Desire now, and anything lesser would not go well with me at the moment.

Thanks.

This applies for google maps only? I thought google maps is already downloaded into the hp itself so its free. Didn't know must still load the map from online.

Is there any free map application that don't have to pay?
*
There is a limited number of GPS program for Android. Papago, Ndrive, Co-pilot to name a few but all of these are 1 time paid apps. You need to pay to obtain the program. However, they never use data connection during operation unlike Google Map.

I am getting quite a good battery life now, lasting about slightly more than 2 days. With a couple of calls, SMS and some song listening everyday. Just needed to switch off my mobile networks + wifi + live wallpaper all the time smile.gif

Rooting with Unrevoked seem to be the easiest way but i have heard about needing to install drivers if we root using Windows. Anyone have any step by step on how to do it on Windows with Unrevoked? Some say disable HTCSync but some say enable it. Its confusing and i have no idea what driver to install.

i think you can try this method http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=709146.

i managed to root+ flashed using unrevoked with my windows 7 ultimate x64.

cheers

Thanks alot. Exactly what i needed cause i am gonna do it on Win7 64bit as well.

or you check my signature (i put the guide in my blog). you can also find it in FAQs section too (the first page of this thread about how rooting it by maliqu3)

Added on July 26, 2010, 6:12 pm
fyi, all froyo+sense roms still have bugs. if you want rom that is more stable than any other roms, try opendesire 2.3 (it's froyo but doesnt have sense and i can say almost no bugs) but, once again u gotta try them all till u find that is suitable for u. coz people have different needs.
*
I did check out your blog and it was very helpful. However, its just that i am concern because some people say you need to uninstall HTCSync while some others say its required. Then some say switch it to USB debugging mode etc. So many versions out there for using Unrevoked and Unrevoked's site never even mention anything in regards to how to do it. LOL...

Btw, lets say if i root now. When the original Froyo is released, all i need to do is flash it to that version and all will be fine right? My phone automatically becomes unrooted?

And did you guys update your radio? Is it necessary, if i am using OpenDesire's official leaked Froyo?

QUOTE(Pennywise @ Jul 27 2010, 09:45 AM)
Hello,

To tell you the truth, maliqu3 did a very good job. Fantastic even!

I root my HTC Desire yesterday on Windows 7 Home Premium 32 bit. I did not even read any other guide, I just randomly and blindly follow what's written on maliqu3 blog. I did encounter some problems but managed to fix it through the night. Overall, it took me about 3 hours to get it done right. Nothing much to worry about.

It says uninstall HTC Sync but leave the HTC driver, it would work.

Waiting for Froyo official release is x time in the future as it is unknown. Some hopeful thoughts say it'd come during Christmas, while HTC SEA mailed and say there are no plans of upgrading at the moment. If you'd like to wait, so wait. Else, root and join us in the dark side.

I think it's a pretty fun experience and knowing that I've screwed my warranty (possibly, not 100%) is not a major concern for me. If it is for you, then I advise you dont root your Desire. smile.gif Cheers mate!
*
I am not exactly worried about voiding my warranty as i did the same to my WinMo HTC last time and still got it to be warrantied. The thing i am concern is that even with Unrevoked, there is so many ways to follow. I agree maliqu3 guide is a very good job and i was hoping to follow that without any hassle. Its probably i have read too many guides out there for Unrevoked and most of them are not exactly the same which prompted me a little bit concern on the "actual" way to do it tongue.gif Probably i should just rely on my Virtual Machine Ubuntu to settle the job easily smile.gif

Well, i love custom roms to be honest. I ran them all the time on my previous Diamond but that is considering the fact that the Diamond never had WinMo6.5 to begin with. With Desire bound to get official Froyo, i was hoping to be able to port back to the original ROM easily (if required) though unless the current Froyo are already way better than the official one. smile.gif Guess i had to root then. Btw, one more thing, will rooting and flashing rom cause it to wipe my phone and SD memory?

Besides, is partitioning the SD card necessary? or its just for the non-native App2SD feature?

QUOTE(Pennywise @ Jul 27 2010, 10:10 AM)
Wow, you seem rather experience in these sort of things. To be honest, I decided to flash my Desire yesterday and it was the first time I read any guide (maliqu3's, yay!). I have never read any flashing / rooting guide before. I think you read too much.. Hehehe... smile.gif

Anyway, in Maliqu3's guide, there is a link to unroot the phone back to its original state, Android 2.1. I believe we can achieve the same result with Froyo once the official release is out.

Please backup everything in your SD memory and synchronize your phone to HTC Sync and Outlook prior to rooting. I backup my data so I can restore most of it. My only problem now is that I cannot open the notes I previously saved in Color Note app. I probably need to engage the developer for advise.

I am not sure if LeeDroid Froyo is better than the official, I probably will flash it again to the other rom by OpenDesire Team, its highly voted on the xda forums.

Btw, yes partitioning is a must with LeeDroid. Use Rom Manager, its quite easy.

Added on July 27, 2010, 10:16 amNotice additional problems.

1. Battery charged overnight, only 93% - I think this is a bug but let me try another night to confirm.

2. Color Note data - Does it write to SD card cause I didnt backup anything else on my phone so my data's probably lost? Or if it does write to SD card, where is it? Anyone able to assist?

3. My previous Swype apk don't work - I need to find one that works.

4. Cannot setup Facebook on Friendstream but can use Facebook separately - Error message: WARNING: The service is currently unavailable. Do you want to try again? YES / NO. I've entered the FB workaround below but still doesnt work:

In your Facebook profile in your web browser click "Edit Profile".
Then "Education and Work". Under "Position" enter your city. Save.

Anyone who use LeeDroid, please help
*
Not exactly experience for Android (my first time on Android phone as well) but did it multiple times for my previous WinMo Diamond. Thus, i am not too worried. Its just me trying to find the easiest way to do rooting, but even that comes with a number of different guide. Gonna mostly follow Maliqu3's or those that are already at XDA developers. Anyway, thank you so much for the tip there. You guys tempted me to the dark side tongue.gif

Btw, if i decide to go against non-native App2SD, do i still need to partition my SD?

And Pennywise, did you flash your Radio?
