I've seen
Choong = 张, 钟 According to my friend, Choong=张 is also Hakka。The idea is to pronounce it as Cho-ong. BTW, Chong = 张 is Hakka as well. The idea is to pronounce it as Ch-ong. Both stress the second part. The difference is due to a lack of romanisation standards for Chinese dialects besides Mandarin and Cantonese. |

QUOTE(mcchin @ Jun 24 2010, 05:37 PM) i am a chin, (chan in cantonese) an I AIN"T NO HAKKA, MY DAD AIN'T NO HAKKA AND MY GRAND_DAD AIN'T NO HAKKA!!!!! I thought 新宁 are Hakkas? According to this journal article:I am sin ning lang actually QUOTE Being the second largest sub-ethnic Chinese, but since there are many different sub-dialect, for example, Hui-Zhou Hakka (惠州客) who belong to Hai-Lu Feng dialect (海陸豐), Hopo dialect (河婆) encompasses Chao Yang (潮陽), Jie Yang (揭陽), Rao Ping (饒平) and Hui Lai (惠來), Mei Xian (梅縣) (formerly known as Jia Ying (嘉應)) dialect includes Xing Ning (新寧), Wu Hua (五華) and Zhen Ping (鎮平), and Dapu dialect (大埔) comprises Dapu, Feng Shun (豐順), they speak, in certain degree, mutually unintelligible dialects with different accents. My ancestors were from 新寧 and we have always considered ourselves as Hakka. |
