hey guys i was wondering is it worth getting this phone? since the new windows phone 7 is coming out soon... And i am getting this phone because it can use two os... otherwise i would go for android instead...pls advice..
*
Windows 7 is a completely new product . You can refer WIN 7 ONE STOP GUIDE

It uses a completely different OS ; all the older Win 5, 6.1, 6.5 programs will NOT work. Its concept of installing program,s similar to iphone and Android- download from Marketplace. I was at the sneek preview in Spore 2 months back and I was told by the presenter that the present HD2 can be used UNOFFICIALLY as a WIN 7 phone but few of its buttons will be non functional. Whether this materialize it depends on again the ingenuity of those at forum XDA

If you look at the photos I have taken, comparing the HTC HD2 ( On Android ) and Google Nexus ( 5 MP) - actually not much difference. I find the HD2 seems look slightly better. Anyway I am noob about photos, only know how to point n click

This is Windows rom. What is the Android rom , as is strange because at least for the past 10 days all new roms should have the camera and videocam working without issues. Maybe you install the initial roms which are buggy, laggy and with scrolling problems

Umm is this the 1?

LeoFroYo_1.2.0p0?

Its so damn laggy and yes with scrolling problems..
*
This is very very old version, one of the early release. Go and download the latest version 1.7 - you will be very happy. I am using it now. This rom has ZERO lag, very smooth scrolling - it performs just like any Android phone

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=736545

Download the zip file, extract it - you will see a folder " Android". On the SD card - remove the Android folder and replace it with the new Android folder

In Windows mode, using file explorer, locate the Android folder, tap clrcad ( there will be no response ) and haret.exe. The phone will boot into Android - take about 1 min +

If you prefer the original NEXUS Google interface - try shubcraft or darkstone HD2froyo. The htc Sense UI uses more memory as is more graphic intensive but is still OK ; depend on one's taste

@Benny,

In WinMo, the wifi router default works very good , if in Android is it available?

In android, how is the surfing ?

how can i send my HD2 to you to flash if i wan dual boot? ( ofcourse i will pay you for the services thumbup.gif )

i dare not as i am a noob in flashing sweat.gif
*
You mean using the HD2 Android as a portable WiFI hotspot so that other computers can link to it thro wireless ? YES - it was finally available in some roms not all yet. Mine is on Matt 1.7 , working fine

Browsing on Android is FIRST class . The MAIN striking and heavily emphasized feature in Android ver 2.2 Froyo is its browser , Google VP Vic Guntaro proudly said it will be the fastest smartphone browser . When he said that during Google IO conference in May, I thought he was putting his head out to be chop ! I find Opera Mini 5.1 now on Froyo is even better than the default Android browser

Well, Froyo has proven him right. The Froyo browser is at least 2 to 3 X faster than Android ver 1.6, 2.1, at least 2-3X faster iPhone 3GS and at least 3-5X faster than Windows 6.5 - these are reported figures by several users on the web. Personally I find is indeed better and faster than ver 2.1 and definately very much better than WM6.5 even with Opera. With the Froyo browser I could live stream movie ( tested on NTV7 Driven motor series ) .

You can send to me , I can assist you to flash but I encourage one to DIY. Once you have successfully flash and done you will find it easy next time flashing any other phones. Just PM me

Yes, i should try it myself, like the saying goes.......if i giv you a fish u will eat for a day and if i teach u how to fish, you can eat fish for a lifetime
But i will nid to ask you more things b4 i start doing it myself......wait for my PM as i din bring my HD2 out as mostly i am using iphone nowadays, The HD2 is infact sitting in my drawer doing nuts tongue.gif

I, infact wanted to sell off the HD2 as i am under utilising it BUT since i read tat you successfully Dual Boot WMO and Android 2.2, i am having double tots now tongue.gif

wat are the function/button keys not available on the HD2 when booting up on Android?

I also hav a HD(1) , is this able to boot Android 2.2 , my guess is not as the processor is not tat powerful, any comment bro SiFu

thanks, you are a GREAT member to this forum

All button keys work as assigned. There was never any issue with buttons. Unlike you, my iPhone 3GS sleep in the drawers 90% of the time. I use it only when on flight watching video podcasts and listen audio books. I already have unpleasant winks from my wife when she heard I am getting a iPhone4 - another luxury toy which I hope I can spend more time with it out in the fresh air.

HD due to lower processor 528 MHz, I guess will not work so well ; anyway based on the forum I have been reading, it has not reach the stage where it can be used as a day to day phone. So far all the roms unable to have the camera working

Thanks for you kind words. I am just sharing what i have learn and know. Infact I am a noob too , I learn everything from forum like this ; forum XDA was another great site.

@Benny,

so you mean to say tat Android 2.2 is working perfectly on HD2 now. i mean the latest version

and if compared to your 100% default Android phone, this HD2 Android is how near to it?  or maybe which part of the HD2 actually outscore the default Android fon........if there is any
fr your Blog, it seems tat the 4.3" screen of the HD2 win outright over the 3.8" of your Nexus ( or was it Nexus? tongue.gif )

thanks
*
I'd say the HD2 can replace my Nexus ; so much so my Nexus now inside drawers too for the past 2 weeks. Actually depends on your use - Beside call, sms etc I use it for Email, RSS, Tweeter, NewsFeed, Facebook, Ebook, Browsing, once a while camera and video cam, Skype, MSN and lately Audible for audiobooks ( meaning iPhone not necessary)
I LOVE the Google Voice - fantastic - now most of the time I " write" SMS by talking, use GPS by voice, once in a while write email using voice. But I do find the Nexus response to voice input and browsing is slightly faster

Sorry, I dont play games, no idea but guess shouln't be any problem since both same chip 1 GHz

The main advantage of the HD2 over the Nexus is the battery temperature - it averages 26 to 28 while the Nexus is hotter averaging 32 to 34. I took steps to convert to Android mainly for one reason - the SCREEN. I like big screen, infact I place a booking for the Dell Streak with even a bigger 5" screen. After I get it, I will sell off the HD2. I will still keep the Nexus to follow the Android development esp Gingerbread ver 3.0

Chucky has a cab file to overwrite it. Search for it at his site or ask for help there. I have use it before but cannot recall where is the link.

Android rom with sense Matt 1.7 , non sense shubcraft now at ver 1.5, I last use 1.4c

Use google map brut ver 14 , I was suprised very good. I was thinking of buying papago but now i feel not necessary. With voice assist navigation. Google for it at forum xda. If you use non brut which is standard no voice for Msia n spore map

Backup highly recommend: titanium backup

Hi Bro Benny,
I would like to ask how do I flash my HD2 to Android? From your past previous post I'm quite lost. Do I need to Flash it to ChuckyDroid ROM before placing the mattc Leo + Froyo w/Sense 1.7?

Or can I just jump from my current Dutty's Rom -> mattc Leo + Froyo w/Sense 1.7?

Thank you in advance
*
You can maintain your windows rom. Just download the android rom, extract it n copy the android folder ionto your sd card. On windows use file explorer locate the android folder on card, run clrcad ( you will have no respond , is to enable sound) follow by haret.exe. Phone will flash n takes about a minute n you will have android up.

I always advise you use a fresh format sd card to eliminate issues possibly attributed to rom or windows. Backup all sd card contents first. After successfully have android install, just copy back all your contents

Changing to another android rom is freaking simple, just replace the android folder on card with the new android folder you extract from the new rom zip file

I would suggest you read up first to see whether your present window rom has any issue with the android. Actually most new window rom cooked in the last one month should work , perhaps have issues with those older version

The best backup n restore software is titanium backup n is free app , download from market

Use it to to do full backup. After install, run the Problems tab and go to batch , select the backup options you want , many choices

When restore to a new rom, untick or deselect all the red colored items as these are system files n settings from last backup rom. You will have all your previous rom apps fully restored including their settings

Another good backup is mybackuppro , there is also a free version. This program you can select to restore program, program n it's data, or data only

Just test n decide which you prefer

Thank you very much Benny, So it's fine for me to flash to latest Artemis ROM and then copy the "mattc Leo + Froyo w/Sense 1.7" into my freshly formated SD CARD (Flash with the WinMo's Format SD Card program). Then "run clrcad ( you will have no respond , is to enable sound) follow by haret.exe.?

Does this means that i will have dual ROM bootup?
*
Yes. Yes. Yes

Make sure you install the dual boot cab

When you switch off android, it will restart into windows mobile. From windows mobile you can switch back to android by just selecting the android tab. There are several ways to do it. Some android roms will auto put a android shortcut on windows/programs n you can then put this as a shortcut on homecreen. Some roms will auto restart n what you se is a home screen with 2 icons - android n windows mobile. Some roms, you have to locate the android shortcut on card

If your android port cannot restart from windows, most probably your windows rom not suitable. That,s why I say a fresh format sdcard will help u eliminate issue of card or android rom problem

Added on September 3, 2010, 10:28 amFor those who want a easy way out, you can install any of the bootloader app here : It will auto put a android shortcut on homescreen

benny on the gps u intro.. does it have sound on m'sia map?

i tried navigate on the brut version with the voice apps installed.. weirdly there's no sound..
*
YES , that is why we need the brut version to have the voice navigation. The default Google Maps do not support voice for Msia and Spore.

Check your Menu list : If you have downloaded the correct file - you should have 2 programs icons displayed : Maps [brut] and Navigation ( with the red letter word Brut) : Select this Navigation to launch your Map NOT the default Navigation ( without the brut )

Correct file name is : Maps [brut] version 4.3.0-brut14

Sametime make sure you have updated versions of Voice Search ; just go to Market ( use MarketAccess to enable paid apps access) and download update all Google Voice apps

Did you HardSPL your phone first ??
Yours I see is stock original rom. Phone must be unlock thro HSPL to install the Android rom which need a rooted platform. Read here for explanation and how to do it.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=609477

TIP : Make sure battery at least 70 % charge, both SD card and sim card taken out. During flash, NEVER disconnect the USB cable until HSPL is completed

Energy and Miri Elegancia should support. You can read up about the Android roms and supported Windows all these at forum XDA . See other user comments what Window rom they used. I am using Miri WM6.5 V18 - simple rom

Hmm.. Benny, I flashed my ROM with Energy.
Somehow its contain built in Androids? There is a "Launch Android" When i hit it, it flash to Android. Though i have Froyo in my SD card, will this means that its actually flashing to the Froyo?

On the site note, before I hit the Launch Android's button, i try to navigate to my Android Folder with File Explorer. Then run the clrcad follow by haret.exe. Once restart it stucked at the lock screen.

When i click the clrad, nothing happened. But how do i know if it's running or when it will run finish?

maybe u should try flashing it to android compatible custom roms and radios, then try again.

You are right, possibly he is on wrong radio. Most roms need 2.08 and above
Please advise your Windows rom and the Android rom you are using. I do know one of the earlier Android rom released in early June has such issues

Hey Benny in android mode,my touch screen often gets stuck..Then i like need to lock and unlock my screen then it will be ok..

Is that a bug?
*
Often ??? Once in a while ,maybe . " A while" meaning, probably 1-2 times a day. Well there are people complaining about this, " often" is rare.

These are related to Windows rom and possibly SD card quality and lastly having too many open programs. You can try those roms that offered 1 GB memory allocation instead of the 512MB if you like to have many apps being open same time. Some people had suggested using task killers, I for one NEVER use task killers. Those who exhort task killers think like Windows guys when according to Google official statement, Taskkiller is not necessary in Android. Though I do not use Task killers, I do believe it will help one to increase memory available immediately

I'm using:
ROM Version:
28, Aug 2010 WWE (Energy) Energy Download
Radio Version: 2.12.50.02.2

Using this Android's ROM:
Android

For some reason even after running the "CLRCAD".exe nothing seems to change at all.. How do I know it finish running? Then when I run the Haret.exe it just load everything fine. Then it booted in Android. Then it stucked at the Lock Screen.
*
I read back your comments , please clarify this statement : There is a "Launch Android" When i hit it, it flash to Android

Do you have this before you flash Android ?? I know some Windows rom cooks now built in this option to their rom. I read the Energy rom details, there is no mention of such feature. If so, then this will flash the rom which is inside the Android Folder . If this is soo, the manual process of clrcad and haret is not necessary

I have mentioned numerous times and is mentioned in all the Android rom links, when you select CLRCAD , there will be NO response at all. Dont worry about it. Just tap CLRCAD once, then Haret.exe

OR you can try flash Enegry version of Android rom : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=733649

Make sure : Radio above 2.08 and your SD card is fresh formatted not using normal format but use the SD Format tool I recommended. The SD format is crucial step to eliminate hanging, freezing and lagging issues
