to all sifus here..
is it true that 3rd party lenses are reversed engineered from the original bodies of a camera? if that's the case, would a 3rd party lens i buy now become obsolete if i buy a new alpha 5 years later? |

QUOTE(8tvt @ Jun 24 2010, 10:09 AM) i think alot of lenses still not in alpha line up.. oh..because i heard from my uncle that there were issues with 3rd party lenses not compatible with the latest software of the latest cameras and hence they became obsolete.. and again if they make one.. got a slight enhancement.. but still can be used right.. why worry much.. QUOTE(zstan @ Jun 24 2010, 10:02 AM) to all sifus here.. No that's not true. Third party lenses are manufactured by the 3rd party and is paired with the mount for the different brands -e.g. for Sony, they will put in the A mount for the lens, for Canon they will put in the EF mount plus a motor as Canon does not have screw drive etc. is it true that 3rd party lenses are reversed engineered from the original bodies of a camera? if that's the case, would a 3rd party lens i buy now become obsolete if i buy a new alpha 5 years later? Unless Sony changes the A-mount to a different mount, the lenses will not become obsolete. Future camera bodies may have new features that will not be supported by older lenses but they will still fit and you can still use them. Heck, older Minolta AF lenses can still be used and they are around 20 years old! If you look at the mount on your lenses, you will notice that newer Sony lenses will have 8 metal contacts while older Minolta lenses have only 5 metal contacts but they can still be used. QUOTE(ariff_koboi @ Jun 24 2010, 10:13 AM) Not worth repairing bro. Just get a second hand kitlens for around RM300 at most. To repair, the labour charge is already RM150. Add in the spare parts and the cost can easily go over RM300 |

the NEX series using the E mount. but sony prepared the E to A mount converter for NEX users. So pretty much if sony plan to come out new type of mounts for sure still have conversion mounts for it. like the old minolta MD mount and M42. no need to worry

oh... i see..so how do these 3rd party lens get the 'technology' to build the respective mounts for the respective brands?
still reverse engineered right? not worried about sony/minolta lens la..more concerned about 3rd parties: tamron/sigma/tokina etc... Added on June 24, 2010, 10:48 am QUOTE(boyzone @ Jun 24 2010, 10:38 AM) Yes, is an external flash. my flash gun also a bit wobbly..probably due to wrong handling of it..but still can fire flashes when u press the shutter right?can feel loosen after slot in the external flash. Flash can move ( longga ) This post has been edited by zstan: Jun 24 2010, 10:48 AM |

zstan : I don't think it's reverse engineered lar... I would think that the mount information is easily available from the manufacturers like Sony or Canon or Nikon. It does not stand to logic that they will stop third party lens maker from making lenses for their mounts.
