did you give ur gp the mix pellet with corn, seeds n stuff like that? i'm glad you decide to change the food, coz food like that is a big NoNo to gps...seed n nuts are not their natural food, corns too. seed might contain acidic stuff that harm ur gp...i believe you can change right away, as you said ur gp refuse to eat the seeds n corns, might be because it know that is not good food...just try first if he's not eating might try mixing it with his old food, gradually increasing the amount of the hagen pallet in the mix until you can replace all of it with hagen.

jb.

Guys do u have experience balik kampung with gp? Somebody pls share yr experience u leave yr gp when u balik kampung or balik kampung together with gp? I plan to take my gp balik kampung as i dont want to leave him alone. I am driving and my travel take 2 1/2 hour.
*
I usually bring half of gps to vacation or balik kampung. I got 4, so i'll leave 2 of them and bring another 2. but usually maximum i leave them only for 3 days only. if i need to leave more than 3 days i'll bring them all with me

travelling is no big deal to gps, what's important is to make sure you have a proper carrier to bring them (u can use toyogo box, carton, or th eplastic picnic basket if u dun have animal carrier) make sure got good ventilation, and bring enough food and the water bottle with u. they'll be fine XD

hurm ... well, it was a good action to your gp,
I support the opinion that Kaoru give you ..
same with me, my gp just like to eat rabbit pellets .. but after that, I try to mix with Hagen pellets and alfalfa hay so now they like to eat the new pellets.

Hagen pellets is already mixed with vit.c and alfalfa, so when they eat alfalfa hay that is the same smell with the palette, it will change our gp appetite slow and slow and slow until they realy like it.

in fact, if what I say is true, sorry if Im wrong...

for travel its better u put like some fruits or any vege type of water exp. cucumber its because gps not like travel with the water botlle it can scared them..then when u reach just let it relax n rest after that u can play with it..(if u bring along with water, the water will come out..n make u gps wet n cold.) sweat.gif

"must take note of gps not like the wet body, except when bathing."

Please dont say Hagen is a better brand. I'll slap anyone who does. sweat.gif

Hagen is the best 'budget' brand. Its cheap. But it smells horrible, and I noticed GPs poo waaay more than usual on that brand. Some says because it contains corn.

Go for Kaytee, or Oxbow. They are indeed better than Hagen.

at my case hagen is indeed the 'better' brand since mine costed only around like 5 bucks, i'm not good at this field therefore I am asking so that my gp can enjoy better foods.

anyways, thanks for the suggestion, will look for kaytee or oxbow.

If you want to save cost, but yet want to give your GPs the balance diet, you can mix Hagen pellet with Oxbow pellets.

Solely rely on Hagen brand, your GP won't die, but with better brand like Kaytee or Oxbow, you can see the difference in terms of fur coat and appearance on your GP.

Btw, if you fed the unknown brand pallets for long, I can bet with you that your GP won't live to its maximum life span of 6-7 years old. That's why in Malaysia many GP owners say GP only live 3-4 years max in Malaysia due to Malaysia weather, that is bullshit! My GPs are already 5 years old, and I wish to break this record. My GPs are house outdoor, weather could be quite hot for them at times, especially those long fur type, but yet our Malaysian weather have not much impact on them. It is their immunity that counts, balance diet contributed to the good immunity too.

hi shukri..
my tips..
dont put water with the cage, becoz if tumpah, ur GP will get wet..
so, put 'water rich' fruit/vege..
i bring my gp back home every weekend.. travel time 1 and half hour..
but, plz not travel on day hot.. if so, the gp will demand for more water..
put a lot of hay too..
place them on the seat, if not, put some soft base (eg. thin pillow) below the cage..

hagen wont cause poo wetter.. jus smellier .. due to the corn starch in it.. there is one more new brand same grade as oxbow.. will update u guys the name tonite after i go buy their hay.. cheaper from oxbow by 10 cent lol. but for their pellet is rm2 ringgit more than oxbow. wet poo is due to watery vege and fruit fed to them... too much.. i learn from my mistake on choco.. rupa rupa last time she berak cair and soft due to too much vege and fruit.. but now she ok liao finger cross.. lol

TRY TO FEED 3 VEGETABLE SERVINGS PER DAY. BE SURE ONE IS SOME TYPE OF LEAFY GREEN. PLEASE, NO MORE THAN 1 SERVING OF ANY GIVEN VEGETABLE!!

A variety is necessary in order to obtain the necessary nutrients, with one each day that contains Vitamin A. Add one vegetable to the diet at a time. Eliminate if it causes soft stools or diarrhea.

Limit fruits to 1-2 tablespoons per 2 lbs. of body weight (none if dieting) from the list below of high fiber fruits. USE FRUIT ONLY ONCE OR TWICE A WEEK. Sugary fruits such as bananas and grapes should be used only sparingly. Guineas have a sweet tooth and if left to their own devices will devour sugary foods to the exclusion of healthful ones.

This is an excellent site for vitamin content of vegetables: http://www.guineapigcages.com/food/Veggie-...ruit-Charts.pdf

(!)=Use no more than twice a week. High in either oxalates or goitrogens and may be toxic in accumulated quantities over a period of time.
