if mobile data is turned on, a device should switch to 3G/GPRS/EDGE or any mobile data whenever WiFi is not available or off. It works rather well normally.

But recently i encounter the problem of mobile data not turning on when i'm outside any wifi range. Even i turn on/off the wifi manually, mobile data on/off manually, wait for some minutes...it doesn't work. the only way i could get 3G again is to reboot the phone. Anyone has any idea why this happen? It doesn't happen every time though. just sometimes, quite often.

By the way, i'm using "Never" in WiFi Sleep Policy.

Stephen has released ver 1.60 today:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=909263

You can now customized before flashing : LCD density, launcher type, other settings - animation during boot, volume boot, no additional apps, Galaxy Tab mail as replacement and some others etc. Just need to create a small text file and put in sd card : android/streakdroid

I install over 1.5.3 - just took me about 8 minutes only. Immediately noticed bootup of device from cold took only about 45 seconds vs about 60+ secs previously. Other users had reported quadarnt readings above 1700 to 2000 . Have not tried yet. My last quadrant score on 1.5.3 was 1565

First priority is WiFi. You need not switch off WiFi if there is none. The phone will auto use its 3G connection.
What rom are you on ? This auto switching I noted is very good and immediate with Steven's 1.5.1 to 1.5.3. There were at times some slight issues with 1.4.6 where I had to reenable data ( just unselect and select ) at Settings/Wireless Network/Mobile networks. Not necessary to restart

hi benny, I'm using DJ Steve's 1.5.1 ROM.

I do not switch off my wifi, i have both wifi and 3G enabled, and when there's wifi it will use wifi signal. The switching was quite smooth normally. Just until recently i noticed when i'm outside with no wifi, sometimes (not always) it doesn't switch to 3G. So, i'll be with no wifi and 3G. It doesn't matter i manually toggle wifi and 3G, the 3G just wouldn't turn on until i restart it.

I just wonder would it be because i'm using "Never" under Wifi Sleep Policy setting, which i feel saves my battery?

When u said " its doesnt switch to 3G " , is it because the " H" logo beside the bar is gone ?

H sign? don't see any H sign. it doesn't switch means...there's not 3G sign on the top right of the screen (even though 3G has been enabled in the setting). All I had were mobile signal sign (the 4 short-to-long bars), battery sign and time. When 3G/GPRS/EDGE is on, i would see either "3G", "G" or "E".

by the way, someone just told me to Settings > Mobile networks > Network operators > Search Network, then the phone will be reminded to find for 3G and turn it on tongue.gif it works. But...still kinda annoying that sometimes it can't switch to 3G by itself.

"H" which stands for HSPA , the icon is disable in steve's built for 1.5.1 by default . U need 2 set it yourself by rooting your hp and going in to add a line in the build.prop ........ I got problems with tat built as well regarding the signal where it keep dropping all the time , after a 1.5.2 updates onwards , its fine 4 me ..... Suggest u update yours

If you are just a basic user - the official 2.2 rom I feel is good enough. Some guys just like to tweak their phone changing roms, overclocking, installing 3rd party utilities/hacks to maximise performance. My friend has a unit on official 2.2 rom but as he is not a tech guy, he is very happy with it. I help him to change his LCD density editing the build.prop file , his only request. I upgraded my roms continuously as my unit came with ver 1.6 , so no choice but to continually upgrading it

OK, I shall check out 1.5.2 some time. By the way, what happen to the apps i installed if i flash new ROM again? Need to back them up?

My situation same as Benny, got mine with 1.6, so have to upgrade biggrin.gif
So far so good... other than this failed 3G switching...and one experience of phone turned itself off causing no alarm.

I'm still on 2.2 319, so far no problem at all. Fast and stable enough for me. I do apply performance fix though.

I use UNIVERSAL ANDROOT

Added on January 14, 2011, 11:13 pmI have reverted back to 1.5.1 as I found this rom has virtually no problems .

1.5.2 : Quite few times a day , always warning that battery temperature abnormal ; phone cannot be charged at all. Same problems even with spare battery. Used my spare USB cable - same issue. I suspect is kernel issue

1.5.3 : Battery issues gone but noted the homescreen on ADW was not so smooth

1.6.0 : Can say is very good EXCEPT with the Gingerbread features, quite many of my apps when I select MENU - I see only Black boxes as the letters were all covered up. Quite irritating
