I exceed once too when on 500MB package, I upload many videos and watch many YouTube videos. Since I didn't reset my Data Plan widget, I kinda lost count on it and worst of all, I call up Maxis and they don't have the function to check my current data usage or whether I have exceeded the limit. Worrying my bill, I "finally" read up the Terms and Conditions or information about their data plan, and I saw that:
1. for Prepaid, it will "cut off" the usage when exceed the limit, while for Postpaid it will continue to allow you to use and charge you.
2. Then I saw this, there is a MAXIMUM charge limit when you exceed the data plan subscribe. The maximum they will charge you is additional RM250 no matter how much you use after you have exceeded the plan. I call up Maxis to verify. Once verify, I use the data "kao kao" for that Month.

Now I have switch to 3GB data plan for RM88. No need to worry about uploading videos, watching videos in FB or YouTube, etc.

By the way, it's much much more worth it to subscribe to data plan.

Normal usage is 1cent per KB.
1MB = 1024KB = RM10.24?
5MB = 5120KB = RM51.20?
** There're however off peak rates

500MB data plan = RM58

So, calculate yourself whether subscribe to plan is worth it. My first time use this phone, I've accidentally used up 5MB. Then I quickly subscribe to 500MB data plan.
*
Ugh, and I thought things in the Sialcom camp was bad. Here at least they have never charged me TOO ridiculously for overusage, even with the cheapest data plan. On the flipside, things are shitcrap slow (though it does surprise from time to time) and billing errors are rife, oh well.

But Maxis data plans ARE sounding somewhat like American data plans nowadays. Call it the Iphone effect, as the first real data-heavy mass market phone, telcos are restructring data plans around the Iphone, thereby effecting its peers (us included).

And telcos used to be so data blind, especially during the early 3G BB days.

Another reason to flame the diephone lol - kacau people's data munching peace only. What's next, banning data tethering? *gasp*

@arsaa: Which Titan kernel version are you using? Have you installed Kernel-Power-Settings?

The guide up front is for Lehto's kernels BTW. For Lehto the only way to know would be to run a couple of programs and then switch to Conky to see if heavier load = CPU step-up.

@aspire: Sialcom lidat... No hidden charges, speed like snail lol. Shame I travel around so much I actually need the unfailable coverage. But sometimes in kampung areas WITH 3G, boleh tahan the speed. In KL don't have to say, like mabuk snail only.

@Josh_M: That's a "shop", Eviljazz hoax. Really popular in the oc circles.

@Nicholas_oh:Those extra megabytes are the dependencies, which are removed by uninstalling, NORMALLY. If not you have to run "sudo apt-get clean" and "sudo apt-get autoremove" from x-term. Or hunt down and remove it manually with "sudo apt-get remove (package name)".

And yeah, other then the easy Lehto method up front, there's the slightly more complex Titan's kernel, which I am using.

Also you can set up to underclock whewhenver you lock screen, and overclock back when you unlock and all sort of other strange things. But that's a whole different ballgame.

@dannyseoh: enable ex-devel and do "sudo apt-get unrar". Command line unrar, but you can install Xarchiver from the repos for a GUI.

quite sad for me .....

is there any program we can convert papago or garmin map to sygic?
*
There's always Navit = can read Garmin maps and POIs straight. But it's unstable and is hell to configure.

Go check the Navit thread in Maemo if you wanna try your luck.

Finally finished RE-hacking my N900 after a full reflash (eMMC + Fiasco). Really penat work, but it's times like this I thank God the N900 is a full GNU Linux phone (oops sorry, Internet Tablet with crappy phone module) with the ultra super powerful app known as the ROOT TERMINAL.

I think it's the most killer app on the entire N900, really. Lol. Never mind it's "just" busybox rather than full on bash.

Go to xterminal. Type: sudo apt-get autoremove

That should clean things up, though that's not confirmed.

Try hutans lol. But the ulu places I usually find myself usually have better Sialcom reception (and yeah I have a Maxis phone too lol).

Why reflash?
*
They say a full eMMC reflash might improve battery life. Also, it's about time I started with a clean PR1.2.

Lol... I also noob lar. Know cp, mv, mkdir, rm, chmod, wget, apt-get only lol. Most commands also more less cut paste from web what?

But anyhow, a quick google on "Unix Terminal commands" should help, it's been useful to me so far. Kalau mau bukak class we all TT later can discuss - not sure I can help much though.

I blame the Malaysian weather, yes mobile batteries last longer in temperate weather then in extreme heat or cold. Someone need to design a back cover with built in battery like all those crap for the Diephone.

Mmmm, variable overclock via battery temp sensor on the OC wiki, easily moddable to change OC according to battery level or whatever variable you want.

Viva Dbus-scripts... Though I'm stopping at underclock with screen lock, back to normal OC with unlock, malas wanna mount the battery temp probe driver. Even that's saving notable battery power.

Details at the Overclocking Maemo Wiki.

@Eiraku, bro i saw a couple of posts above that you got the 'underclocking when locked' dbus script working. Can you tell me whic is the batt module i need to install?? did the scripts work for you?
*
I guess it's working - battery life is slightly better now.

Other than than there's no real indication of it working lol, as I modded the scripts to ONLY underclock when locked and overclock when unlocked - no fancy temperature triggered overclocking as per the given example as I malas to modprobe the battery sensor module.

Try it out, you just have to modprobe (ie, mount) the bhx-whatever battery sensor module that comes with Titan's kernel if you wanna do the "CPU-scaling per battery temp" thing. You can also mod the script to scale CPU according to battery capacity as well - ie. underclock as battery goes lower.

Uncle Google is your bestest friend if you wanna do the extra strange things - and Maemo talk is more then enough for normal level hacking around.

from app manager, install ( internet connexion, wifi/3g )

1) 'Enhanced Linux kernel for power users'
2) 'Enhanced Linux kernel for power users (settings) '
Refer here for a basic quide by jakiman on commands to run for different settings. If you get stuck, just ask, biggrin.gif

http://talk.maemo.org/showpost.php?p=595582&postcount=774
later when you're comfortable changing ur OC settings, can mess around with Queen Bee Widget icons to change with one touch from desktop, wink.gif
*
Actually bro, installing "enhanced Linux kernel (settings)" alone should be enough as it automatically installs the enhanced kernel package as well. IINM anyway.

The Ottercase might be expensive, but if it lasts 10x as long as the Hard Rubber Mugen Power DC Mugen/Epik cases, it would be well worth it. Plus people are selling it up on ebay for like USD20, substantially cheaper lol.

Problem is, there's no lanyard hole, which is a glaring problem with an RM60++ casing.

Either way, I want my Soft Rubber TPU Epikcase (the one most of you guys are prolly used to) now, Mugen Power DC Mugen! That's the only case I know would last under my brand of abuse. My 2 of Hard Rubber cases have broken tabs edi, which is sad. Thankfully I have 3 more spares but 2 broken cases in 1 week is no joke.

Mind sharing the info...Iz available in Malaysia??

>.<"

Mugen Power... Sorry... DC Mugen lol... They are the case supplier for askarperang IINM and also the main distributor of Epikcases... I just go buy myself from ebayh...

They also make TPU cases = flexible rubber cases that is real rubber and NOT silicone. THESE are the cases that people want I think, but them mugen guys say it's still some time away from being ready for the N900.

Some UK company are selling them on ebay though, search ebay UK for Resin N900 case IINM.

Zen Bound game is out on Ovi Store... FINALLY a shiny, new, nice looking game for the N900.

My credit card not close by, if not sure buy edi.

Linky: https://store.ovi.mobi/content/42960

Mmmmm... Shiny.

EDIT: Finally got it. Ovi's new credit card system seems far more robust now, yay.

Game is, well, awesomely great fun. Can't wait for more stuff from the maker (one more game OTW).

Go buy and support them now guys. It's less than fifteen ringgits only for a spanking new Maemo game that is touch optimised, we don't wanna scare off them devs now do we (now that it seems they're the only ones rajin enough to code commercial games for Maemo)?

About the OVI Store game,I have 2 question.

Previously I uninstalled Bounce but now when I wanted to reinstall it I couldn't find the download link in OVI store. It says "downloaded".How do I download it again?

I have same question as acat.Is there other way to buy the game without CC?
*
Check the "My Stuff" area of Ovi for re-downloads. But savegames after reflash... gone forever man.

Buying w/o CC is not possible yet, which is a shame. Try get Debit card?

still don't explain whether magnets is bad for the phone or not.
thinking to get the leather case as well,
*
Believe it or not, magnets that are too strong mess with the lock/unlock mechanism on most phones. I've personally seen N97s, N86s and Satios unlock themselves automagically when the magnetic clasp of these cheapo covers are closed, and I've heard stories about the same happening to other phones.

Not that THAT's bad for your phone per say, but modern touchscreen phones will suck it's battery dry when it's unlocked in your pouch every few minutes or so (standby time is largely dependent on idle/locked time after all). Not to mention accidental calls and website opening lol.

I'm not really sure about the N900, but you must also factor in the fact that the back cover has a magnet that tells the N900 whether the back cover is closed or not - and disables the mSD slot accordingly. A magnet might mess with this too.

True. It's a powerful Internet Tablet even if you don't use it as a phone.

Besides, currently I prefer Maemo, the name, the UI, the Desktop, etc. MeeGo looks ver Android-ish to me. Of course, haven't seen the final product, so can't really comment.

Another plus point is that N900 is very "open" and very packed with hardware, e.g. Infra RED, etc. I'm not sure there will be any device have so many types of features anytime soon. From previous Nokia practices, once in a blue moon, they will have one device which is very complete or packs with many hardwares.
Not sure if MeeGo device will be so "open" and "free".

Finally, MeeGo device seems will be in capacitive touch screen as the public favors over it. It's nice to have multi-touch, mainly for gaming, not much use for apps, pinch-and-zoom ain't important compared to accuracy and ability to use finger-nails and/or stylus. And with capacitive, no more use for MyPaint or Sketch app.  cry.gif
N900 will be a legend by then.
*
Very much agreed on the Maemo vs Meego comment. I'm really afraid that Meego will become a dumbed down "smartphone" OS on top of linux compared to the raw desktop power of Maemo.

And about the N900 being the next after death legend (after discontinued only popular), I have little doubt, keeping in mind just how powerful and quirky it is. Feel like buying a few more just for spare and parts lol.

I think it's a bug of some kind. Just reconnect and try again. it helps to have the homeIP widget installed.

Oh, and stopped using the slide to underclock script edi. Was causing unacceptable slowdowns after a while, so back to constant 250-700 for me.

Batt life wise not THAT bad, 60-something percent left with moderate use from 2pm to now, not bad at all actually. With the script I would have prolly had 70% left, but the slowdowns were horrible.

Now, can't wait for that resin case bulk to arrive I want my resin case NOW lol.

Finally got the n900 version of W3M CLI text-based web browser working, great for low bandwith use. As it presents the web as full-text, with no images or other media elements, it's blindingly fast, even on 2G.

Good for CLI/Terminal Junkies and people who can live with text-based web for the sake of speed and low packet traffic.

It's about 1/3 the size of the Lynx browser, and is working far better too. A great find for anybody interested (Only hard nix geeks need apply lol).
