People mentioned that when they change to gold plated hdmi cable then the PQ of SD channel is more lively. That is why some of the astro beyond customers swicth to buying that expensive cable and worth it.Is it true?
*
there is a case to be made for properly constructed and tested/certified HDMI cables. These usually perform better than cables of indeterminate origin. If both cables are certified, then there's no difference between a rm60 cable and a rm250 cable (at the rated length)

Do look thru some of the HDMI cable threads there's a lot of useful information and links - you can also read more at

http://www.bluejeanscable.com/articles/hdmi-cables.htm

I get mine from Monoprice (or local bulk purchase form Monoprice)

TallJustin, good to hear about closed captioning. Hopefully its for all channels, not just HD?

Ares187- the size of your sig image gives lie to the intent

If you already have the byond decoder, why not just get a WD Passport AV and activate the PVR function?

bro TallJustin - can you guys @Astro please think about changing the button to invoke (green, yellow or blue) and cancel (red) the interactive mode, and leave the PREV key to do what it used to do (previous channel)

I know Sky uses the red button for stuff, but in retrospect, perhaps it is not such a good choice...

The red button is usually the one used to cancel if something is on the screen you do not want to activate. (Starhub uses the green button, which disappears after 5 seconds or so IIRC)

Judging by the numerous posts, people don't really know how to dismiss the invitation - because they would normally press the red button to cancel stuff.

Since the red is used to activate interactivity instead of cancel, we have to use the PREV key to dismiss it, but this effectively kills the facility to switch quickly between channels.

I can do without the incessant drone - it's featureless and doesn't flow and ebb with the game; other than that I agree w the points above wink.gif

Now, which are suitable for HD channel? To have subtitle or having caption closed? icon_idea.gif
*
this is not an option - in actual fact, subtitles must be close captioned regardless of channel (HD or SD)

not really.. is very easy decision: close captions - those who want can switch it on, those who don't can switch it off.

QUOTE(Dexsam @ Jun 18 2010, 10:24 AM)
Among the B.yond subscribers - any interests for a "HD package?"  I would like to see ALL the HD channels (and future new HD) are included in ONE new package + the usual local TV in SD.  As it is, one have to take almost all the packages to get all the HD channels.  Maybe ASTRO workers should take this up to your mgmt to seriously consider this proposal and maybe add a news channel in HD package too (is there such thing as CNN HD for eg?) and that would be quite enough.  I am sure there are those who don't watch so many channels but when we watch, we want the best PQ available.
*
Interesting proposal - now you think you want this - but in the long run what they are doing now makes sense - if you were not interested in Nat Geo in the first place, why would you be interested in NatGeo HD? If you didn't find time to watch AXN, what makes you think you'll watch AXN HD?

It's like when you first get a decent stereo system you buy up demo recordings of music you would normally never listen to. Play them once to hear how good your system is but after that... collect dust on the shelf.

Does the MyPassport AV HDD need to be prepped / formatted (NTFS?) before hooking it up the the byond decoder, or is it plug n play?

by the way I found the Passport AV at rm260 (cash) in Imbi plaza basement shop
