Good, also, are you planning to travel to Singapore just for the purpose of closing the account? If yes, it'll be the same as taking the recovered funds and spending it again, this time for yourself

I am coming to SG to study... tongue.gif

Once I obtain my student pass, will open OCBC monthly savings account, dollardex (for Fullerton SGD cash fund), and ICBC SG (3-month FD always looks attractive compared to others).

Called Maybank SG today. Luckily all "stolen" money has been refunded!

You can close your Maybank SG account from any branch within SG, no need to go to the HQ in Marina Bay. Just bring along passport, Malaysia IC, and the debit card issued by Maybank.
*
Account closed at Jurong Point. Took around 5-10 minutes. Queue was not that long, although there are quite some people.

Only need Malaysia IC, no need passport. They actually allow you to keep the debit card (as souvenir laugh.gif) even after the account is closed. (of course it won't be functional anymore).

The counter officer said she was once scolded by a customer when she destroyed the customer's debit card upon account closure, so she "learnt her lesson". laugh.gif

I asked her to destroy the debit card (especially the chip) anyway.

My account balance was rounded up to the nearest 10 SG cents. So instead of paying me 782.92, I received 783 instead. I "earned" 8 cents from Maybank SG... Not sure if other SG banks "round up" their customers' balance too.

TOS do it on weekday morning. can get around lunch in ur sg bank acct. then FAST to IBKR

also, remember to subtract RM5 when u compare moneymatch (RM10000 becomes RM9995)
and subtract RM1 when u compare sunway money (RM10000 becomes RM9999)

these 2 will add-on those amt separately as service fee
*
The 2941.83 SGD shown in Ramjade's screenshot is the after-fee amount right? I can see that RM 5 has been included as the "transfer fee" item.

Welcome to Singapore! Will your PhD come with a monthly stipend? You could save a bit of that and stash that away as spare SGD smile.gif
*
Yea. 2.2k SGD before qualifying exam, 2.7k SGD after that.

Supervisor told me my School may offer additional stipend for teaching assistant duties.

Now I know NTU got free food almost daily! Really saved a lot on meals. rclxm9.gif

Investing.com quoted 3.3932 as of 11:25.

So spread = [3.3932-(1005/294.05)]/3.3932 = about 72 basis points. That's about as terrible as Wise. No?

Yea the RM 5 and RM 1 charged by Money match and Sunway Money do matter.

Must be careful with their "marketing strategy". laugh.gif

Such pricing methods are designed to trap unsuspecting customers.

A deposit war is brewing in Singapore.

Digital bank GXS raised their maximum balance amount from 5k SGD to 75k SGD, the maximum deposit limit insured by SDIC. 3.48% p.a. interest with no conditions attached. Surely will put pressure on other banks.

so if i open fast saver acc before 1st Aug, but i inject fresh during promo period, does it fulfil the T&C ?
*
Can refer to this table extracted from their T&C documents:

» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «

Baseline is the July month-end balance (i.e. existing money as at 31st July). Anything above baseline will earn 3.5% p.a. but you must maintain your "fresh fund" added on/after 1st of August for the next 6 months. Otherwise, if it dips below baseline then you earn the old "tiered" rate.

N.B. CIMB SG uses ACT/365 day-count convention.

-----------------

HWZ's FastSaver thread has an active discussion on this promotion: https://forums.hardwarezone.com.sg/threads/...176026/page-124

Planning to move my money from DBS to CIMB SG as well. tongue.gif This 3.50% is some sort of floating/"unfixed" deposit, unlike a typical fixed deposit locking you for 6 months.

Just need to make sure the balance is at least 1k SGD at all times for the next 6 months. (incremental balance for existing customer)

Oh, one reminder. Make sure you guys click the EVA chatbot link to "register" into the promotion. It's part of the T&C.

I transferred 6k SGD then only realize the chatbot link. Not sure if it counts... will check back on the 20th next month.

Thanks for sharing your experience. Question:

OCBC 360 has a service fee of SGD2 if average daily balance for the month falls below SGD3,000, though it is waived for the first year. How do you intend to work around this? As someone earning MYR, it doesn't make sense to have ~RM10K+ just sitting in this account.

Otherwise, I feel that the main goal for opening this account as someone who is not working in SG to be able to have access to SG T-Bills. Is this correct?
*
You can switch to monthly saving account, only 500 SGD minimum required to avoid fall-below fees.

As for T-bills, not really. You will need a CDP account to purchase a T-bill, hence you will need an SG address.

Unless you manage to open one of your Spore banks with SG address (hence shown on the bank's statement), it's unlikely that you will be able to open a CDP account (alternatives include utility bills/phone bills with SG address but this is definitely more difficult as you will have to come to SG in person).

Looks tempting...

(EDIT: You need SingPass MyInfo, so can forget about it if you are not PR or citizen.)

Opened MoneyOwl account successfully. Had to argue with them students don't need TINs in Malaysia...

Just deposited 100 SGD into WiseSaver portfolio, it says fund received and will process in 1-2 working days. They will email you that they receive your money about 5 minutes after you transferred money out of your bank account, pretty efficient. Payment can be done via FAST or PayNow.

How long does it take to withdraw money from WiseSaver? Ramjade

I have withdrawn all money out of FSM SG at the same time. Platform fee eats 20 basis points into my annual return...

haha when i closed my dbs acct this year, the bank officer subtly hint that once i close, hard for me to reopen due to lack of "reasons" to be in sg... doesn't matter just close it. don't see a point in maintaining min balance
*
DBS My Account and DBS Multiplier Account (if opened online, can ask counter officer to do that) do not have minimum balance requirement.

I can't register and bind the mobile number that I've used for the MY counterpart.
But somehow notifications still come through, is it because the accounts are tied?
*
Err don't quite understand your case. The mobile number for CIMB SG and MY should be registered separately when you open the accounts respectively.

You may then link up CIMB SG and MY accounts which allow you to check each other country's account balance details when you login from the other.

E.g. Login to CIMB SG can see CIMB MY saving accounts and FDs; login to CIMB MY can see CIMB SG account details.

As for mobile number notifications, I think there are separate storing system for each account (SG and MY).

Usually I will receive an email notification for money deposited into/exiting CIMB MY. No notification is given for money going into CIMB SG for my case. Money exiting CIMB SG will trigger an SMS or notification email, depending on your settings:
