Od1N.
I meant the NC2000 models cost half your notepad cooler... wanted to know the edge NZXT has over that so that I can weigh in the cost increase to get yours instead of the Zalman. Also, I'm on the ATI 10.5 Driver. I feel this is zee most stable for me. Didn't know that 5870 on CF doesn't work with SC2 as mine is loaded with a single 5870.... Based on all the problems, if it was shipped in that condition I'd demand a new unit or the engineer to come sort it out. But seems like you're capable enough to solve all the issues. Kudos. |

You can get a big daddy SAGER with the GTX 480M for the price we pay for our M15x or M17x I reckon...

putochip.
When you planning to get? Can you get one and then take pics and do a review for us here.... I'm not a fan of SAGER, Not because I hate the brand, but because I liKe the overall feel, look and name of Alienware which is awesome. However I also know of the existence of EUROCOM which supplies their units to Sager. The current behemoth of a monster with the GTX 480m makes me droll and even more so with a desktop like processor thrown in. But chances are I'll wait and see what ALienware has to offer in the future. |

Its a small overclock only. From 625 - 790. Won't burn the CPU. I have overclocked my 5870 from 700 to 950

QUOTE(awyongcarl @ Aug 31 2010, 08:20 PM) Tried, I'm using the latest 10.8 right now, the fan sped are still 30%. Certain games utilize the CPU more than others. Resident Evil 5 for example is one which utilizes the new Core i7 Procs well. And my understanding is that games like Starcraft 2 with lots of individual units also untilize the i7 more than usual.....I'm thinking something isn't compatible with GPU-Z or sort..Hmm.. Anyway, just a question. Say you are playing some games, your CPU will be at 1.7ghz right? If you are using 740QM. |

QUOTE(awyongcarl @ Aug 31 2010, 09:10 PM) Yeah well I understand that, so am I correct with the 1.7ghz part? (When utilizing all 4 cores, the clock will be only at 1.7ghz) I would think its either that it runs on stock or a bit higher. Resident Evil 5 runs hyperthreading though...Now I understand why the XM is so goddamned expensive QUOTE(putochip123 @ Aug 31 2010, 09:21 PM) 1.7Ghz sounds slow, if the application or game like julchin mention can utilise all thread, it will be come advantages compare to other proccessor which have 4 thread or 4 cores with 4 thread^^ Exactly. I think we have been talking about this before in AW Thread 3 done by findingScreemo. I remember just receiving my unit and Putochip as well as Mr. Docter were the ones clarifying all these. The problem is utilisation of hyperthreading by the games. Besides RE5, I'm not sure what other games do this. QUOTE(putochip123 @ Aug 31 2010, 09:40 PM) star craft 2 is not utilising hyperthreading. so u wont gain any performance. core i7 720/740 QM will run SC2 at 2.4ghz(2Cores utilize) This is interesting info. Non Utilisation of HT but the core speed is higher than stock..QUOTE(awyongcarl @ Aug 31 2010, 09:44 PM) how do you know the 740/720QM will run at 2.4ghz? I would like to know about this as well.I mean..well not to say I doubt you but how do you know that they are running it with 2 cores at 2.4ghz? |

Sager would be a good choice for getting overseas.
But even with GTX 480M, the increase in performance is slight compared to the ATI 5870. |

QUOTE(putochip123 @ Sep 1 2010, 01:52 AM) well, for benchmark it migth around 5870. if came into gaming, it oout perform then 5870 ^^, but the battery life is like, Actually I meant the gaming performance. Being a 2GB card, the figures show its quite a shame compared to the ATI 5870. Source: http://www.notebookcheck.net/Computer-Game...ds.13849.0.html Added on September 1, 2010, 3:06 am QUOTE(awyongcarl @ Sep 1 2010, 02:13 AM) Maybe it's just me being jakun but, I think build quality of M15x are quite impressive. (Sure, it's my 2nd laptop so I wouldn't know, my first was Asus G1s) Oh and I do agree that the M15x has quite an impressive build quality compared to the previous notebooks that I've owned. Though of course I've only handled an M17x a couple of times and the MacBook Pro. But regarding the Sager notebook, I think its due to it being made mostly of plastic which is of concern.... QUOTE(Eugene91 @ Sep 1 2010, 09:56 AM) Well that could factor in but being a site that compares like for like they would have even the playing field in terms of settings. Also both are DX11 cards hence I feel that more should be squeezed out of that 2GB GTX 480M. We're comparing the scores of a 2GB Card with that of a 1GB one... |

QUOTE(Eugene91 @ Sep 1 2010, 11:04 AM) Yea. It looks almost the same size, but only in real life can you see the big difference. And the M15x's screen has a wider border compared to the M17x giving the illusion that its supposed to be big when its not.... There's more space in there for other stuff if it was more efficiently placed and utilized.... But that could be reserved for cooling purposes.... |

QUOTE(awyongcarl @ Sep 2 2010, 03:05 AM) Cranked my 5850m all the way to 900/1100 just for benchmarking.. (13707) Wah. Thats pretty far that you managed to OC that baby. The furthest I managed to OC my 5870 was to 950/1150. I know some going as high as 990/1190 but those guys from the notebookreview forum kinda crazy. The last time I played with those clocks I got a BSOD so I never tried it no more. Plus PC Mark Vantage didn't complete well for the 5870 running on clocks higher than the 950/1150 I set. Maybe its due to heat issues or due to the fact it was installed by myself and not factory installed which could have been more efficient (Thermal paste, pads and all)...Funny the result (3DMark06) is similar to what I get from 780/1050 (134xx) 120mhz of difference gives only 300+- of score? I don't understand lol. I heard good reviews of the 5850. I think those thinking of getting the M15x should go for this instead of the GTX 260M QUOTE(putochip123 @ Sep 2 2010, 01:05 PM) Small boost got. Big one no. Personally tried and tested around 4-6fps using the GTX 260M OC. On the ATI 5870, Managed to get around the same 5Fps or higher but not to double digits in fps increase yet. But definetly made demanding games like METRO2033, CRYSIS Warhead and Battlefield BC2 on higher settings smoother for me. QUOTE(raylee914 @ Sep 2 2010, 02:45 PM) Just confirm my order 0.0 BRO! QUOTE(awyongcarl @ Sep 3 2010, 04:55 AM) tried running SC2 on ultra 5850m @ 870/1100. With the emergence of the Asus G53JW with its built in GTX 460M, Alienware better come up with some hard hitting graphics in its next M15x and M17x before I get one...... Good job with the 5850 OC. Did you run those clocks with a cooler and the air conditioning On or Off?Max. temp hit was 81 celcius degree. Not bad at all o.o No artifacts, no sudden hang, no sign of the card overheating. I'm totally impressed by this beast. I can see myself upgrading to m17x next year or something lolol. I mean sure if I want to game I could spend the money on a desktop but somehow, being able to game on a laptop feels good. (Or at least, upgrading to 940XM or any future GPU that m15x can use) QUOTE(putochip123 @ Sep 3 2010, 10:17 AM) During battle underground but got lots of smoke and shadows @ 30+ fps. QUOTE(awyongcarl @ Sep 4 2010, 04:25 AM) Yeah, well I wish they come up with a 480m or something that M15x can use. (Without much throttling >.>) Well thats if they make it MXM 3 Slot for the M15x to fit. Then we'll worry about the power supply and the throttling. And to be frank, I'm a bit regret of not getting M17x cuz of Dual GPU capability lol. Uhh yeah Air-con was on and it's running on a Zalman NC2000. Your 5850 behaves well. The oc's are pretty steep for the card. Will see how the 5870 handles at those clocks..... |

QUOTE(awyongcarl @ Sep 4 2010, 02:18 PM) Oh..lol i see..Might be an answer for the throttle issues. Woot. Really smoother? Sweet..... I wonder if anything else is better. Like compatibility with the ATI 5800 Cards improved...?Ah anyway good news to all M15x user, A08 bios is out! Go grab it! I've heard they fix the CPU throttling and smoother touchpad now. Gonna do it right away. EDIT: Updated to A08, delighted by the touchpad now! It feels like I'm on a different laptop lol. Gonna see if there is any improvement on cpu or not. |
