QUOTE(dark_axl21 @ Sep 4 2010, 11:00 PM) Hey guys I guess the GTX 4XX series will be hitting Alienware notebooks pretty soon since its being ported to mobile GPU series! They've added some lower spec GTX 4xx to the list. I think the 460M above should get into the ALIENWARE system..... since ASUS is getting GTX 460M into theirs. But I wonder how will it hold up against ATi cards? |

QUOTE(Mr.Docter @ Sep 5 2010, 05:00 PM) the word hold up against is quite subjective for me, because high end system is dual GPU capable. Haha... I feel you bro! I feel you. I'm waiting to jump back into the NVidia Bandwagon again.... but I'm Alienware Biased and I'm kinda rooting only for them... When will the Alienites get their GTX 480M???? so you can choose to have single or dual GPU, which make the comparison not quite fair. i wonder where is the heck is GTX480M for M17x. but usually Alienware always smart in delivering sweet surprise for their fans |

The only issue now is Power Supply and Heating. Anyone here has tried using a M17x Power Brick with their M15x ? How to order one? Puto, Doc?

QUOTE(dark_axl21 @ Sep 5 2010, 06:33 PM) Guess I have to wait till SLI/Crossfire cards are M15x "equipable" Size and heat combined. With an additional card we need more copper pipes as well as an additional fan. Thats why the structure of a 15.6" is limited to be able to house all these unless they've solved a way to reduce the size of the cards and fan. I doubt the M15x will be SLI/CF as it would be a feature reserved solely for its flagship model the M17x. What they should do however is allow the M15x to at least carry a single highend card like the M17x running on a single card for the GPU. If there was a GTX 280M SLI for the M17x, I felt there should have been an options for a SINGLE GTX 280M for the M15x back when I bought my monster in Dec last year....What actually makes those dual GPUs hard to be equipped in a M15x? The size maybe? I'm just too lazy to actually Google all this! Leave it to the experts here! |

QUOTE(Mr.Docter @ Sep 5 2010, 06:54 PM) even if GTX480M already reached Alienware, i highly doubt you will able to fix that into your M15x. preparing for upgrade perhaps, bro Julchin? Nope. Never had hope of it coming into M15x and prolly won't be doing any more mods after the 5870 mod. Have been thinking of getting the next generation M17x. Will wait...hope I don't invest more into my camera or I gonna pokai!since we already reached Q4 of 2010, 'IF' games will be popular again, i guess nope, i did never tried it before. is it safe? logically, it the power supplied by M17x will somehow overload the limit that was set for M15x mobo. i am afraid that will fried M15x mobo or somethin.... QUOTE(Mr.Docter @ Sep 5 2010, 07:23 PM) like what had been well explained by Julchin, there are few reasons why M15x will not be equipped with SLi / CF technology. 1 - so far there is none 15" that successfully SLi / CF configured due to its size. (note that size will affect the heat management) 2 - SLi / CF is exclusively dedicated to M17x to preserve the special factor of M17x. 3 - for Julchin, GTX280M cannot be pair with M15x because M15x using i-Series CPU (& mobo) and it not compatible with GTX280M. 4 - eventho GTX285M is basically overclocked version of GTX280M, there is some modification in their architecture's aspect so that GTX280M (basically) can be pair with i-Series CPU (& mobo) QUOTE(putochip123 @ Sep 5 2010, 07:53 PM) it will shows a warning that power adaptor is not compatible. My friend GTX480M full load reached 89'C, wondering inside M15x will be how I think M15x cannot pakai lar that monster of a GPU...QUOTE(awyongcarl @ Sep 5 2010, 10:15 PM) I think just ask Bro Putochip to test. He's got all the models anyway.... |

QUOTE(hackcremo @ Sep 6 2010, 05:45 AM) How about my load temp?? is it consider ok for me living in malaysia hot and dry climax get this reading.. Your temps are within range. Don't worry This temp after play grid and mass effect 2.. ![]() Around 80 celcius is fine but if a cooler can reduce it to 70s then great. The max my GTX 260M went was 90celcius playing in non air con room but just a cooler..... |

QUOTE(froggyx @ Sep 6 2010, 09:13 AM) guys ,the asus g53 laptop just got updated with latest GTX460M....the question is where the h##L is alienware upgrade? Well the GTX 460M is still ranked below the ATI 5870 in the notebookcheck webbie's table of first class GPUs for notebooks. Its new, but not a GTX 480M yet.... wish they hurry up and announce R3 version heres the link------http://www.gameops.net/2010/09/asus-launches-republic-of-gamers-g53.html QUOTE(putochip123 @ Sep 6 2010, 01:01 PM) well, i dont really prefer Nvidia, since it power drain and power battery life, but in the opposite is, its tesselation(DX11) power is the most powerfull GPU currently. I like the way you describe your preferences. Which is true to some extent. I on the other hand don't mind having to ramp up the graphics to appreciate the details if my GPU permits.... PhysX is useless, since we cant really see the thing, if u can see the thing which mean the game is too boring which lead u to see the graphic not enjoying the game |

QUOTE(awyongcarl @ Sep 6 2010, 03:18 PM) Dell promised to replaced the whole LCD for me tomrorow or wed. BRO Changing your LCD is a quick process. Wanna see messy? Click my siggy and go to AW Thread 4 and you will see how they open up my lappy one by one and change the motherboard. That one damn pain feeling for me...... And they insisted that it's a deadpixel and told me normally only more than 6 deadpixels only can claim for replacement but because my system are quite new so they can replace it. As for deadpixels, they have their industrial standards code to follow. But new units normally get a new LCD. Just check if the LCD they give u is refurbished one? Cos they wanted to give my a refurbished GPU last time but when it was put into my unit it didn't work. Remember to Test out new LCD Extensively!!! |

QUOTE(putochip123 @ Sep 6 2010, 05:49 PM) Well, for Notebookcheck is just fr ur reference only, some of the becnhamrk they tested which are totally different from what i had tested. I agree. Not all the stats are to be certain. I use it as a guide only, but fps wise I have got diff as well. I only wished they ran more tests and fill up the fields left empty there.... But its a guide for me nonetheles.... |

QUOTE(Eugene91 @ Sep 7 2010, 02:54 PM) I was thinking of the prospects of that but then all the issues regarding heating as well as power is the deciding factor. Can the M15x handle it which I doubt....... if its all green and I see the chaps in USA doing the mod then I'll learn and do |

QUOTE(awyongcarl @ Sep 7 2010, 03:09 PM) What luck :/ Aww man, Sorry to hear that. If me, I will demand they come again which was what I have always been doing..... Make them make the trip back here with 2 new LCDs to ensure. Sometimes I feel that the parts aren't new but refurbished thats why....Changed the LCD to a new one, from 1 dead pixel became 2 OTL The engineer suggested to retrieve the laptop back so they can check thoroughly before handing it back and I agreed. Told them urgent and the tech told me will be done in 1-2 days. UGHHHH what rotten luck I have =( QUOTE(froggyx @ Sep 7 2010, 03:09 PM) The thing is we will never know. I might be announced this Nov, or even next year. Good thing I already have my monster to play with...... tech cannot chase lar....sure die. |

It sucked to be me as well when I got my unit and within 1 few days I got BSOD and it took 3 visits and a period of 3 months before my unit was issue free. Imagine within the first week you see them engineers tearing your unit apart to the bare chassis....

QUOTE(Seriously @ Sep 9 2010, 11:59 AM) heyo guys, need some advice 4GB is enough for me as I do all that you stated except AutoCad. But go for 6GB since its just a small price ot pay compared to back when I got mine. If I got mine now I would.... planning to get the M15x and configuring it now, i'm planning to use it mostly for video editing, photoshop and AutoCAD.. and maybe some heavy gaming will 4GB of RAM be enough ah? QUOTE(awyongcarl @ Sep 9 2010, 01:55 PM) Yay. Check thoroughly already? |

QUOTE(awyongcarl @ Sep 9 2010, 02:37 PM) Yeah, checked with RGB, black and white screens. Yes but when something goes wrong, they need you to put back the original GPU/CPU to see if with it, the same problem occurs or was it due to the new hardware. Thats the only reason I'm still hanging on to my NVidia GTX 260M even when I'm running the ATI 5870. Or else I can sell it dy....Nothing. I asked the tech bout warranty too, he say you can change the GPU/CPU or w/e, warranty will not be void, nothing will. LOL |

QUOTE(awyongcarl @ Sep 9 2010, 05:27 PM) Yeah. I paid around that amount or slightly less a few months back. If you have the ATI 5850 I think don't need to upgrade la. I was using the GTX 260M which was a DX 10 card so I upgrade to this which was DX 11. Plus it is top of the range back then for all cards, and still top for ATI but the main thing was that it uses less power and fits into the M15x. Of course having higher stock clocks doesn't hurt as well...... in conclusion for me it was worth the upgrade..... |
