QUOTE(jason4883 @ Dec 4 2011, 02:24 PM) It's not easy to find 10w-50 engine oil in the market... Yup, better find the cause first as 5w-40 and 10w-40 are the most common FS and SS oil in the market.....Guess I have to visit my mechanic fren for a better check up and see what's going on. QUOTE(Ivan Sac @ Dec 7 2011, 02:02 PM) Hi sifus.. In the first place why want to use FS? It is more expensive also. To me unless it is high performance engine then use FS, if not, I don't think much difference, since viscosity is very close.....For the past few years Im using Castrol Magnatec.. Now wanna try Castrol Edge,is it suitable for my car.. Car : Proton LMST Year : 2004 Current Mileage : 60k Magnatec is 10w - 40 Where else Castrol Edge (5W-40).. Thanks guys.. Added on December 7, 2011, 3:50 pm QUOTE(jason4883 @ Dec 7 2011, 02:26 PM) Tesco oil also have FS 5w-40 now at RM99My NA Sonata I am using Tesco SS 10w-40 This post has been edited by vr2turbo: Dec 7 2011, 03:50 PM |

QUOTE(alexng2208 @ Dec 8 2011, 03:21 PM) Another pondering question i have: You better check with the SC, if they allow using own oil. If yes, then okay, but most SC don't allow..... I have free service for my car and they use the Castrol A5 oil which i have never heard of before this. Should i use my own oil instead? |

QUOTE(pumpman @ Dec 9 2011, 11:55 AM) This oil make in Johor Bahru.. Lexus oil distributed by UMW, but someone mention is made in Thailand.....Added on December 9, 2011, 11:57 amU are right bro .. Adnoc, Q8 ( pronouce as Kuwait) , Enoc , Gulf and Sharlu from UAE. Lexus oil by UMW Malaysia Added on December 10, 2011, 12:20 pm QUOTE(huakenny @ Dec 9 2011, 12:05 PM) bro...both semi n fully perform is totally difference..... By right FS do not have longer OCI, and is best to follow car manufacturer recommendation. instead of the difference in OCI, the engine oil performance also different.... Oil manufacturer never overrides car manufacturer recommendation. Actually was more on the point that not performance engine do not need FS oil to run..... QUOTE(zero5177 @ Dec 16 2011, 06:19 PM) Owhh I didn't know that term SS is Semi Syn, I mean 45% of lube remaining in the engine when reach 5k, I don't understand your 45% balance. Engine oil level have to be kept in between the high and low mark on the oil dip stick.I wanna try 15w 40 castrol modern engine, but the foreman say scare later the oil drain very fast because its thinner. Can always try / test the oil. Just monitor the oil level using the dip stick. If not good, then go back to previous oil used.... |

QUOTE(zero5177 @ Dec 17 2011, 01:31 PM) Ohh, my 45% balance means I assume between the High(100%) and low(0%), my lube stay at 45% between them at 5k... Oh! then it is okay. 45% between dip stick high and low level is good......Mayb I should try, and I duno the API thing for my car engine as well Old car no need follow so closely the API. Oil now mostly SM, if not SL. Of course got some SJ and even the newest SN. But if old car can still use SL and SM oil, no problem. QUOTE(huakenny @ Dec 17 2011, 05:45 PM) ha! ha! true also, but very few FS 20w-50...... Added on December 17, 2011, 8:17 pm QUOTE(xxboxx @ Dec 17 2011, 07:02 PM) You should stick to mineral oil, unless you planning to overhaul the engine in recent times or if something goes wrong. Normally SS 10w-40 can still be used. SS are still mineral oil based. Even Group 3 Hydro Cracked FS are made from crude oil. Mineral oil have higher viscosity (thicker) that is why the blow by into the combustion chamber is less, not because it does not clean. SS is Mid viscosity, starts with 5w or 10w and FS the lightest at 0w.Mineral oil actually helped to close any gap caused by wears in all these time, changing to SS or FS will clean the deposits and resulting the thinner oil to leak out. If don't want to try SS 10w-40 still can try Mineral 15w-40 instead of 20w-50. As mentioned if not good, can just switch back to 20w-50. For my turbo, I did try 5w-30, found it too light so, after a week switch back to FS 5w-40.....my ride is a 1991 model. For my wife's Sonata, was on FS 5w-40, then I switch to 5w-30 also can use and that is a 1996 model Now on SS 10w-40 because cheaper and her car is NA so no need FS oil..... QUOTE(zero5177 @ Dec 18 2011, 12:05 AM) I see... I do agree that FS 20w 50 too hard to find in the market... Or I should say I've never seen any of them. Yup, mineral. As named modern engine so slightly lighter in viscosity.....Added on December 18, 2011, 6:59 pm QUOTE(zero5177 @ Dec 18 2011, 01:59 PM) Yup, Either Carrefour or Tesco, when on sale is cheap. Local ones are RM100 plus....This post has been edited by vr2turbo: Dec 18 2011, 06:59 PM |
