Hi guys, I am driving Saga FLX 1.3 CVT.
I have been using Petronas 10W-40. (Semi synthetic)
My car is 1 year old now, I feel like changing the engine oil into fully synthetic.
I need some help on what is the pros and cons on using full synthetic engine oil.
Thanks!
Firstly, if your car is 1 year old, you still have 2 years warranty. during this period, most likely, you have to service at Proton.
-(my car is 1 and a half years old, and I think Proton warranty is important. I have changed my rear drum brake assembly for free under warranty)
So at Proton SC most of the time, cannot bring your own oil. So you have to use their Petronas Syntium. Syntium 800 is the semi synthethic. I used this only once, during my first 1000km service. Performance wise, it was good for driving less than 1 and a half hours. I have driven to Hatyai with this 800 and after 1 and a half hours, the engine sounds rough. After cooling off the engine went back smooth again.
But my second service onwards, I changed to Syntium 1000 fully synthethic. There is a great difference in the performance.
The engine is very smooth and I have driven to Krabi, longest stretch 4 hours non stop from Hatyai to Krabi. Engine was very smooth and no rough sounds. So I believe even after my warranty period, I will stick to Fully Synthetic but not Petronas because Petronas is too Expensive. My choice would be Tesco Oil Fully Synthetic or Mobil 1 when Tesco got offer!
Also with Fully sythetic, you can service at 10k km interval. that in itself is another savings.
So to answer you, Yes, do change to FS engine oils.
