this (better mains+dipole surrounds) will work just fine as long as you don't start getting into multichannel music - on SACD, DVD-Audio or Blu-ray - those need the same speakers all around.

that what i read from web, if listening to musing in 7.1 mode, all speaker must be equal and place at the same height,
if you using floor standing speaker, your surround speaker must be same speaker as main, even the center speaker must be same floor-standing,
but for movie, center is center speaker which enhance in vocal, front can be floor-standing or bookshelf, both place same height level with ears,
and bipole speaker is the best speaker for surround which place 2-3 feet above hearing level.

i don't have any experience, but i think it gonna have a big differences.
