Frequently asked questions:

1) I am new and what should I do to apply PTPTN?
Get your documents certified. Documents such as offer letter, SPM results and etc. Certify those and then go to the orientation. You will have a good picture. Open a CIMB account too. You can go to MMU and open as it only need you to deposit RM20

2) Do the students need to wear formal during classes or any specific date to do so?
No, students do not need to wear formal and is up to the students to wear any attire (but regards to the dress code of Multimedia University. Failure to do so, can make the student liable for fine of RM100.00 by security personal.

3) Is MMU law recognized?
Yes, on 10 August 2008 by Tan Sri Abdul Gani Patail with reference number [LK/SAG/7-1A & 7-1C; PN(PU2)314/IX]

4) Which is better? MMU Melaka or Cyber?
There are both pro and cons in this situation. For example, in MMU Melaka, people like to do events and they have different lifestyle. However, facilities here are not in good shape as its quite old. However, for Cyberjaya is total contrast. Events are not held constantly and not as much as MMU Melaka. But facilities tend to be way better than Cyberjaya.

5) Should we attend orientation?
Yes and very yes! Why? First is because after u pay the amount for registration, you have already paid for orientation. And secondly, please don’t rely only on seniors. Seniors also sometimes do not know how to solve the problem and at the end, come to see SRC. Most people whom do not know where to go and come to SRC are the people who did not turn up for orientation. And lastly, why want to rely on other people?

6) After paying the bank draft what should I do?
Bring the receipt of payment to the registration as it is just a backup in case the system shows that you did not pay.

7) Where can I stay if there is no hostel in MMU Melaka?
You can always stay at apartments nearby such as Ixora, Emerald Park, Bukit Beruang Utama and etc. Or you can stay at housing nearby such as Taman Kerjasama, Taman Bunga Raya or Taman Dahila. Most is around few minutes’ walk and depending on the place and how fast you walk.

8) What scholarships can I take if I want to come to MMU?
MMU Yayasan TM Scolarship
MMU Chancellor Scholarship

Or other companies who are willing to sponsor you. Do not forget that PTPTN can be converted into scholarship if you are able to graduate with CGPA of 3.67 without extending your term of studies

9) Do I need to stay in hostel?
In MMU, you have your right to have your own accommodation and is not compulsory to stay in hostel even for new students. There is no curfew, and hence, you are free to walk in and out of MMU (but u will need to write your name and ID on a book provided by security) during 12am – 8am.

10) Where can I stay in MMU Melaka?
There are many houses available in MMU Melaka. You can try these 3 taman which is Taman Kerjasama, Taman Bunga Raya and Taman Dahlia. All these 3 taman are quite near to campus. Else, apartments such as Ixora, Emerald Park, Bukit Beruang Utama (BBU), University Green (UG) and etc would be your choose.

11) What should I do if I have problem?
Contact me at my cell (016-6588220)

12) What is the network speed in campus?
The network equipments support 10/100Mbps (end user).

13) Laundry and iron service for MMU Cyber hostel?

There are irons in MMU Cyberjaya hostel which is available at the Wing B 5th floor of each Block.

There are 2 different laundry service in MMU Cyberjaya Hostel
1- U send anything inside a plastic bag, collect it around 1 days later, pay around RM2/kg (Available at Hostel Block (HB) ONE)
2- Wash whatever you want yourself using the washing machine, not sure how much does it cost but its a pay per use. Even if you put in 100kg inside the machine oso can as long as it fit. (Available at HB FOUR)
3- Wash on your own using hand

14) What should I wear during orientation?
Only formal attire are allowed. Means no round neck, collar, jeans and etc. All students are expected to dress in formal attire.

There are irons in MMU Cyberjaya hostel, which you won't need it. Remember, during class you're NOT needed to wear formal. Unless you want to iron your T-Shirt, then you'll need an iron which is available at the Wing B 5th floor of each Block.

I think the question about how is the internet speed are not meant the LAN speed . . . . .

Let me answer you this question if I may ^^

REALLY FAST SPEED at weekend and Friday after the noon session, besides that, well ..... depend on luck , might even worse than dial-up sometimes . . .
But for those who like BT-ing .... there are no worry about it because we got INTRANET which provide GOOD quality of latest games/movie/software etc in cybertracker ^^

during presentation, formal attire is needed , neck tie is optional ( some need it to make them look smart . . . . or whatever . . . .)

orientation just some casual wear enough , just follow the dressing code.

REALLY FAST SPEED at weekend and Friday after the noon session, besides that, well ..... depend on luck , might even worse than dial-up sometimes . . .
But for those who like BT-ing .... there are no worry about it because we got INTRANET which provide GOOD quality of latest games/movie/software etc in cybertracker ^^

its in FAQ ad. item number 12. huhu

during presentation, formal attire is needed , neck tie is optional ( some need it to make them look smart . . . . or whatever . . . .)

orientation just some casual wear enough , just follow the dressing code.
*
no casual attire are allowed during orientation.

YES. polo t shirts are considered "smart casual" attire.

whatever it is, from my experience,
orientation fun or not, actually depends more on us freshies,
not so much on the OC.
want it to be fun, must go all out and have fun.
in this few years of uni life, we'll only experience 1 orientation unless we join SRC and be part of the OC next year.
in short, have fun lah everybody. haha

For Cyberjaya Campus, there are water dispenser in the pantry which you can get cold and hot water.
Just don't expect much about Cyberjaya's hostel. It kinda sucks, not sure about Melaka.

Benefits to stay hostel @Cyberjaya:
- a bit cheaper
- a bit closer
- much faster internet
- nothing else

I didn't meant the LAN speed.. Rapidshare, Megaupload, etc can reach UPTO 8MB/s during application based QoS with less people around campus.
If campus is full then the speed should be around 1-2 MB/s
During user based QoS downloading should be around 200-500kB/s (again, depend on how many people are around campus)

If you're a person who at home, always sit in front of your PC playing games and the only reason not to is because your parent scold you not to... then if you enter MMU and stay hostel, you'll probably sit in front of your PC 20 hours a day playing games...
or even watching TV Series, Movies, etc.
Believe me, there are too many entertainment in your room that you might even forget to go eat. tongue.gif

Pray that you have a nice room-mate, borrow her laptop and check for announcement, etc everytime before you go to class.
Coz all announcement are made through MMLS (multimedia learning system) which you'll know more during orientation.

Remember, almost 90% are digital.

i hope i'm not making a wrong choice by getting a desktop instead of a notebook xD
cos my acer burnt already. =.= either graphics or chipset rosak.
repair too mahal so i opt for desktop instead.
cheaper, better, affordable maintainence. but not mobile.

if anyone drop by pc fair at melaka can see me too.. haha biggrin.gif
maybe this time klcc and melaka... but i think have pro and cons:

If for laptop, after paying IT fees, its like u are not using the facilities provided. So, having a laptop enable u to go to class, does not need to print notes and just look at ur laptop. And at the same time, u can torrent during the lec.. haha

if desktop, is rather good in sense that MMu student dont really off their pc. so, even myself leave my pc on and surely my pc will be doing some stuff.

windows is user friendly. but great advantage of mac is that u will be able to minimize virus infection. Since MMU uses windows, its not bad to use mac. Then ur laptop/pc wont get pregnent with virus. and if u want to buy apple new products, in mmu melaka there is sapura shop where the items are cheaper as it has student's price.

Guys, hows the condition for cyberjaya hostel rooms? Since admin said 3 people in a room, so definitely 1 double decker and a bed. That leaves to my next question which is, are there desk to study and chairs? also, enough space for cupboards? Can someone staying in cyberjaya hostel upload a picture of the room pls..

3 desk and 3 chairs to study but only 2 wardrobe so 1 people must share with wardrobe which is inconvenient.

For Cyberjaya campus, its a double decker and a single bed. 2 wardrobes and a long desk which is suppose for 2 person.

Here is how it is suppose to work:
The one grabbing the single bed get the wardrobe but not the desk. Those who get the double decker have to share wardrobe but get the desk.
But you can always work things out, sharing is caring.

good service (from what he told me)
price around lowyat price (which is where i intended to go)
and 1 year onsite warranty.
so he just come collect from my place if got problem.
don need go all the way from cyber to lowyat. =)

What AMiRU said is true cos i confirmed with a friend who used to stay in Cyber hostel. now moved out to cyberia already.
the idea of not having a desk in my own room really motivated me to look for a room in cyberia which i already did =)
and the only thing that is good about the hostel is the internet, which i bet almost everyone knows lah.

fox87, go youtube search "mmu hostel". there are some negativities of the hostel there.
but since i havent really stayed there, i remain neutral xD
judge for yourself.. (apparently "no smoking" does not apply there o.O)

In terms of space, the rooms are suppose to be 2 person yet due to high demand they make it a 3 person. So its a bit small but I've live 2 years in that small room, yet I'm still alive.

The toilets, depends on your luck. Some people are just stupid, they don't know how to keep it clean. MMU is to be blame too for not really keeping the toilet in a good shape as some toilets really needs to be repair.

Yet, its Cyberjaya and the cost of living is a bit high especially to those who come from Kampung. Renting an apartment in Cyberia could cost you more than RM1000/month. If you're lucky you can rent a room for 200-300/month. Still, need to pay for utilities bill.

If you stay hostel, you can bath for 1 hour without bothering about the water bills. You can turn on your PC for 24/7 without bothering about the electricity bill.

Its your choice, both hostel and living outside has its pros and cons.

But I heard stuff about people getting kicked out of hostels to make room for new intake students. Any info on this?

that was my initial plan. stay 1 sem at least in hostel.
but remember mmu lost my hostel application form?
then since i really pissed and lazy to send again (which they asked me to do) so i just find a room quickly.

P.S if not hostelite, can we go into campus or visit friends in the hostel?
any time limits?

Yea, why not as long as you are MMU students. You just need the MMU student ID to get in to MMU. Hostel section, make sure you visit your own sex part.

MMU don't even have fences, so basicly you can go in and out 24/7..
If you get in by car after midnight, the guard might ask you to show them your Student Card.

ok then. haha..
cos i was wondering how the hell i'm gonna make full use of cybertracker if i don have a laptop and i don stay in hostel O.O
haha

anyway, just to share some info i found out about the cybertracker
the cybertracker is not exactly for "free"
initially u get to download 10GB for free
then after that, the subsequent amount u wanna download depends on the amount u upload.
so basically u have to upload first before downloading.. =)
stock up on movies + game ISOs before coming. hahahaha

welcome to LYF thumbup.gif
nope u cant choose roommates, but they'll most probably arrange according to ethnicity..
as for a laptop, whether u're taking IT or not, most uni students need a computer
and mmu is highly web based, assignments and lecture notes/slides all have to be downloaded..
so if u don have laptop/desktop, have to cramp at the computer labs lah (i heard the labs are crowded.. sweat.gif )
so u shld get a laptop or a desktop lah. depends on wat u need. hmm.gif

According to seniors, no you can't choose your own hostel mates but you can appeal to the STAD. After that, maybe you'll get a chance to stay with your friends. Hanging around with people speaking English eh?? kinda like me, a Chinese speak fluently in Cantonese but prefer English when I'm away from home. I just hope MMU is not like TARC.

I'm also in Foundation in IT and also without Notebook. There's library, can update yourself there but if you get hostel mates of the same foundation and with Notebook and willing to help, you're lucky.

Don't forget to say hello to me once you see me in CyberTracker. icon_rolleyes.gif
Its call ratio, you don't need to upload anything to maintain your ratio. Its a torrent based, so if you seed (leaving your Torrent client on so others can download the file from you) its counted as upload too.
Download 1GB, Seed 1GB and your ratio will maintain at 1.00
You'll only not allow to download when your ratio is at 0.2 (which is super easy to maintain even if you're seeding from Labs)

If you're a hot girl who are willing to go for a date with me, don't bother about your ratio. I can make it 100.00 just for you. wub.gif

PC/laptop is up to u want to bring or not. if u are staying somewhere around campus then why not bring along. U will need the computers to do ur assignments and etc during classes. on 30th is the registration. after that, u will need to come back in the afternoon for briefing of whats gonna happen for the week. Then orientation will start on monday until friday. class will start on 7th which is on monday.

Hence, as for ur parents, they have a few options

Option 1 is what normal parents do when wana send their 2nd child and etc. This is because they have experience already and they will not stay. Normally this group will just drop their kid off and maybe leaving on monday for work.

But option 2 is really carring parents (but i dont know why they seemed so free). They will spend the whole week with their kid during the orientation but i does not see it as practical. The parent need to wait until the kid finally finish orientation then keep on bringing their kids out. During orientation, students are not allowed to leave MMU. This is because, it is our responsibility to assure ur safety. Hence, during lunch, some parents will keep on bugging us want to bring their kid out for lunch and etc. But the answer from me is usually a NO! I mean, once send the kid to uni, is the child him/herself need to survive the uni life. During orientation is the time, students will get together and know each other better. And that friendship last until the student grad and might be still in touch until work...

The option i would usually recommend is, tell ur dad/ mom have leave on monday. (if possible). Then, they can help u get what u need on sunday after registration and briefing. And on monday they can go back. Maybe ur parents will need to spend night. But if cannot take leave, then is ok too. Just tell them to leave at night after u fianlly settle everything.

Take note... If u are staying at places such as cyber ria, u need to bring ur things from ur house and transfer them to ur new house after registration. Then after orientation, u can go back on saturday and come back on sunday to continue bringing ur things. Like for me, I am originally from shah alam and i need to study at melaka. Luck me, my family have quite a number of cars and i can transfer all my things including new bed, cupboard and etc.

During registration, u may wear casual. but during briefing (if can wear formal). But during orientation is strictly formal..

CyberTracker is a website (intranet) and it is NOT part of MMU Cyberjaya. It is being handled and maintained all by students thus you won't find it in MMU website.
You won't be able to access it until we (degree students) come back to campus which is around June 6th.

We should stop talking about CyberTracker as this is educational essential thread. sweat.gif

Actually, there is one time a guy in FIT got saman due to long hair. It was an unlucky day for him as he was there when the security suddenly become "rajin". But the probability that you will is 1 in 1,000,000 biggrin.gif

But as you said, its no more secondary school. I've seen my classmate in a GREEN hair, just like what you may see in Anime. Lecturers just make fun of him for a few times but no saman at all.

yes, after registration and have briefing.
U may go back and return back to MMU on 31st may. No prob too..

U wont be able to settle the room so fast. I mean, in one day. Maybe after orientation, u pack up ur things little by little?
haha.

Ok, lets make this clear. If u ask me, of course I will encourage each and everyone to join the orientation. Not only u have paid "some amount" in the RM1.8K. But also for u to know how MMU runs. Basically, in MMU, everything is using computer. From course registration until download ur lecture notes. So, orientation allows u to handle everything. I dont see why people do not want to come. MMU good at E n E engineering ???and i heard that they "saman" male students with long hair... isn't??
*
there are dress code to follow. BUt it depends. I have seen ppl dye their hair purple and etc. and the hair super punk. But did not kena anything. just to share, me and the head of security and campus director wanted to go out and have lunch. Then on the way, Major Anba stoped a student (international student) and told her, why her hair is like this. In front of me and the rest of the staff, she told, (sir, I am thinking with my head, not with my hair. So, i do not see it as a problem. With that sentence, she walk away and I laughed). Then as usual, the management will condemn me and other SRC for not having enough awareness. lolx.

I got friends who live with other races during their very first semester in MMU. But the basic idea is one room will have the same race as its more convenient that way. The next semester, you want to change your roomate so all chinese, malay, india, kadazan, dayak, penan and others are all together within the same room, its up to you.

Okok, during registration, they'll probably tell you what to wear during briefing section. During briefing section, they'll explain more about the orientation schedule and also the dress code. Simple and easy to obey.

yeah. just be prepared whatever u need thats included in the list
i.e. formal, casual, sports attire

on registration day, wear casual.
earlier in this thread, there's a reply saying that u can wear casual to the briefing too.
but if can, change to formal lah.
the briefing is held to tell u about the rest of the days.
so just be all ears and listen carefully so u wont miss a single thing.
so gavin doesn't have to answer all these repeated questions tongue.gif

and next time pls read the thread from the first post. doh.gif
see item 14 regarding what to wear during orientation.

But as you said, its no more secondary school. I've seen my classmate in a GREEN hair, just like what you may see in Anime. Lecturers just make fun of him for a few times but no saman at all.

Sorry to barge in but, if the 3 people all want to sleep on the same bed, then it's possible. The thing is whether your roommates want to do it or not. So, it depends on your roommates. If the three of you can figure something out then of course 3 people can share the tables.

Foundation can apply ptptn. Max will get RM8000.
And make sure u keep RM4000 to topup.
And U need to go to BSN and buy the RM5 pin code.
then u go to PTPTN website and fill it up.
U do not need to open SSPN account.

Make sure u fill the details in the PTPTN correctly.

yes during orientation will tell u about this. U will need to buy the pin from BSN. Thats all. After submiting the document via online, then wait for "hari bersama PTPTN". You will then need to buy RM20 stem hasil or RM10 stem hasil if u are anak yatim.

u still need to attend hari bersama ptptn. U just dont need to buy the form like last time. Last time students need to buy the form from PTPTN or MMU admin. Now instead of using the form, u will need to apply online. After apply online, they will "semi-approve" it. The success candidate will be uploaded in bulletin. If ur name is there, then 2nd step is to print the from from the system (that u have key in). And photocopy other documents like ur IC, mother, father IC, salary, J-form/ 3 months pay slip/ pengesahan by pegawai A and etc.

Aafter that, u need to wait around 1-2 weeks only the money will go to your CIMB account.

However, now there is a new policy. The money will go to your account first. But in less than few seconds only. This is because, ur CIMB account will; tally with your MMU account.

Dont get confused:
For exmple, if u have RM5000 debts to MMU, and PTPTN will bank in Rm4000 (supposingly). The full amount of RM4000 will automatically moved from your account to mmu's account and assume u pay the fees.

However, if you owe MMU RM4000 and PTPTN gives you RM5000, RM4000 will move to MMU's acount leaving you with RM1000 balance.

Get it?

yes, after registration and have briefing.

I see it like, commit yourself for 5 days and u will survive for 4 years at least.

It is ur call, to come or not to come, but u make sure there is people to help u to register course online (the most important).
So, I would recomend u to stay after registration and make sure u settle ur accommodation first. Thats the important one.

Gavin, i surely wont miss the orientation, now what do i need to pay more attention to? meaning after i arrived there and done the registration, i need to settle my accommodation? ill be staying in the MMU hostel so who should i consult to regarding this?

if i duwant to go back after the registration on the 30th, meaning i will staying at the MMU till tomorrow 31th orientation, where do i sleep? already got room in hostel for me by that time? shocking.gif

I wonder whether I should bring my laptop during orientation week or not, because I'm not sure whether there will be any use for it during the activities. I thought about just keeping it in my room, but then again, isn't that a bit risky?

Well, during the info day the counselor there told me that MMU is currently being "frozen" by MARA because of a filled quota thing. But she did say that some students are still getting MARA loans by applying on their own and not through MMU. Then she said that MARA will only give loans for degrees. I checked out the MARA website and it's true.

im still puzzled regarding this, if possible i want MARA instead of PTPTN since im more than qualified to apply.. sad.gif

guess i should head up to the MARA headquarters myself soon for much detailed info regarding this doh.gif

Hai,today morning I went to MARA office. They only offer Mara loan to MMU students at cyberjaya campus if Malacca campus no loan at all.Besides, there are only 4 subjects that can apply for MARA loan,Bachelor in Accounting,Bachelor in Multimedia...the rest 2 I forgot. And Foundation in MMU cannot take loan be it in cyberjaya or Malacca.Hope my info will help you.Better you go to the office and ask them which courses can take MARA loan. Can you update me with the other 2 courses if u go to mara office? laugh.gif because just now the lady show me the paper in instant. shakehead.gif

best solution is call mmu and ask.
i think its ok to do the medical check up a bit later but troublesome. payment is always more important for them

if not than ask a friend or any1 in forum if they have an empty 1 and make a copy for u.

Like studying AI, Computer Security etc are all in Melaka campus. Cyberjaya only provide Computer Science and a few la which I don't think I'm interested in.

Mostly I'm interested are all in Melaka Campus. If it's a must, I may need to transfer to another college and I need to know, will I be able to do so??

Well, due to certain reasons, i applied for foundation in engineering late (for MALACCA campus) which was after the deadline. And fortunately today, i finally got the reply from mmu, as they called me up to inform me that my application is approved. The admin said i will be receiving their offer letter as soon as tomorrow or the day after tomorrow(Thursday or Friday)... But now since i havent gotten my offer letter, and the registration day is around the corner on this Sunday which is 30th May, i dont know what to do right now as i havent read the content of the letter on what to do/prepare/posting money...the only thing i know is that there're lots more things i should get them done before this Sunday. So for those who received your letter earlier, could you pls tell me what to do now? and what should i prepare?..such as money or what.. (ps i cant wait for the letter since i stay in different state, it's kinda hard for me to settle things before this Sunday, so i have to get ready before my offer letter reaches my hand safely)
Also, i was told to buy a bank draft worth RM1773 by the admin and send it to mmu. Could anyone tell me what is included in the fee of RM1773? Is it for orientation's fee/hostel fee or is it merely just a registration fee for me to book or safe a place for me in mmu?.... I mean if i know what is that for i could arrange thing better cause my family seldom settle things for me, i have to bear the responsibility for my own fault if i miss anything..so better i ask and get ready now sad.gif
I get to know that we're all have to turn up in mmu on 30th May at 8.30am for registration, and come again after the registration in the afternoon for briefing again. Well, what is the time for the briefing? I just know it will be ended at around 2.30pm from the admin. Where should i go/stay after the registration? and also after the briefing? I stay at so far away.rclxub.gif I have tried to book a room in hostel but in order to do it, i have to show them my offer letter so they will approve my application for hostel. I have nowhere to stay like this sad.gif for 30th. and the next day is already starting day 1 of the orientation week.(i assume 4th June is the last day of oriendation) There's a huge problem for me to find accommodation in such short period of time. Moreover, none of my relatives as well as my friends are staying at malacca. I can ask for no one to assist me on such issue or to stay at their home for temporary.
From the earlier post, i know that i can find an application form for hostel in the envelope of offer letter they sent. So when do i have to post them back the application form for hostel? and mail them RM500(Hostel Deposit RM300.00+Hostel Prepayment RM200.00) ? or just bring along RM500 on the registration day? or either one can?
icon_question.gif
On 30th May, i can wear casual during the registration and try to wear formal for the briefing, right? And how casual is considered to be casual for mmu? For formal attire is just like the earlier post mentioned, long or short sleeve with long trousers (not jeans). Correct me if wrong, cause i DONT know anything about university life and the whole rigmarole process....

Lastly, i have lots of doubts regarding ptptn loan, well i have to admit that i come from a quite poor family cry.gif and thus ptptn loan is extremely important for me. And if im not mistaken, i used to consult the counsellor of cyberia campus, she said usually people do not get ptptn loan for foundation study and it is better to apply for the loan during the last semester of foundation for 1st yr of degree. If we get the loan for foundation study, we have to apply for another time to get the ptptn loan again during the 1st yr of degree, right? and in order to apply it again, we have to clear our debt(loan) so that we they give us the loan again? rclxub.gif can anyone give me an in-sight on ptptn loan? i just dun wanna miss anything..you can tell me roughly cause i know we will know more during the orientation again.. blush.gif

I hope anyone would kindly share your opinions and replies. Pls reply me as soon as possible cause Im really worried. I did try to read all the earlier posts before posting this, but if i do ask the repeated questions, pls do not mind it to tell again, cause maybe i missed the page or just didnt get the points.

i personally called the admin, they said it was not late to do so, and there was an earlier post which mentioned, we could even bring along RM1773 on the orientation day. I think I wouldnt be able to attend the orientation week in the last resort..

btw, this is the first video i saw when i searched mmu at youtube, kinda disappointed on watching it =>
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hWs8JazyxTA&NR=1

..and all other videos are mostly freshies being bullied or played 'quite' badly

btw, chrisTan thx for your reply, i will try my best to do whatever i can for the mmu studies preparation. And if it does happen when im too late, then no choice i would go to other university then. I believe mmu is a good university but just something wrong goes to some students there having nothing to do to make fun of freshies instead of guiding them and building their confidence in their tertiary studies.

Hi, I have not seen the videos. My opinion is, you can always dont take part if you dont feel comfortable :-)

edit: ok, i have seen it. If such thing done to you by the src/orientation committee and you feel uncomfortable with it, you could always voiced out to STAD. SRC is not what I would say a strong student body in MMU ;-)

On the accomodation part, dont worry too much about getting a hostel room. There are plenty of rooms to rent within the bukit beruang area for students. It's a big community here.

You say that as if that's the written rule. Is it? I think that it's up to the roommates on how to share the room biggrin.gif

(well, in the end it's most likely gonna be like this anyway I guess >_>)

Important policies/annoucements are made in the 1st class.
You will get the class schedule after you complete your course registration. You can see your timetable there.
*
lol.. yea but they post it on their 1st lecture slides and what policies do you need to know? been there done that so many times u get used to it. and lecturers would cancel 1st week of class all the time. whats the point of leaving home early for 1 or 2 hours of class that week?

i personally called the admin, they said it was not late to do so, and there was an earlier post which mentioned, we could even bring along RM1773 on the orientation day.

*
that was the 1st year i was oc in mmu melaka. those dudes are not around anymore. they are just joking and they make sure you are ok with it after the prank. please take it with an open mind and think it of having fun but not bullying. you guys have not seen what others do in local Uni or overseas uni.
p/s : OC would always pay extra care to those they joke or make fun of. it makes it much easier for u to fit in and have fun in the 1st few months you dun have much friends. trust me.

Added on May 27, 2010, 12:00 pmGavin wont be around these few days as he is busy with Orientation Committee Camp. If you have any problems that needs answers fast please call the MMU line to get an accurate answer.

around MMU also can do x-ray. if u cant get the x-ray in time than just get the medical report form. x-ray if not mistaken they wont need it. my x-ray film was with after registration. its not in use at all for 2 years.

I think only a small majority of the lecturers cancel their 1st week class. As far as the timetable is concern, 1st week is a valid lecture week and lessons will begin. Apart from missing the crucial policy, usually the lessons are important for basic background. I guess that is why many students who skipped the classes have problem understanding the subject later on as the class progresses. Also that is why many students claimed they never know on the subject policy. So it is either you wanna advice the new students positively or the other way round ;-)

Call them. I'm sure can because by the time you finished up those documents and send it back, it's way past registration day. And if on registration day, they didn't receive what they want, perhaps they'll just give another one to you to fill in

well i dun find any problems couping with lectures even after skipping the 1st class.. and maybe ur from cyber or different faculty cos here for long sems the 1st class is always canceled last minute. if not it just goes for 15-30min and go back.. "thats all for today"..

not that i want to teach them something bad but its a fact that they will learn sooner or later. i am just telling them earlier.

p/s: i am not from SRC so my advise might be a little orthodox.. but i still support some of their activities.

Okay, I just receive little info.

Bringing Notebook is necessary because they'll teach us how to check our timetables and schedule since Gavin said, everything will be done through internet.

But for those who don't feel like bringing, it's fine as well.

No, I am in Melaka campus, FET. While I don't deny there are lecture classes being cancelled last minute, it is not right to generalize them all. What if the new students skipped the first week and there is actually something important being disseminated or being taught for that particular subject? Let's not make this a culture among MMU students smile.gif

Good info, but I hope the new students wil not panic if they dont have any laptops (they seemed so worried about the dress code already tongue.gif ). You can always share with your group members with laptops. If the briefing is done in lecture complexes, I am sure they will show how to check these stuffs using the projector for the benefit of everyone, no?

I don't have any authorities to tell u what to wear but i guess you should wear something you and others are comfortable with.

I guess what casual means is smart casual (A slack, shoe and a collar T)
not the casual which you wear to go dating or shopping.

jobneed: No, this Sunday is not only for hostel registration. It's for courses registration(every freshie) + hostel(those who applied). You can wear casual during registration but I also heard afternoon briefing is formal. So better be, formal from morning till noon. No need to change.

orangecow: Check back your offer letter. Don't be a lazy cow because I myself also need to check back. Stay on that day onwards. According Gavin, we'll get our keys as soon as we finished registration.

LOREAL: If you are not staying there, why not wear formal clothes from morning. Sandals is consider formal wearing is you understand what formal wearing means.

AMiRU: Even I go out dating/shopping, my dress code is consider formal. Do you not realize, nowadays girls are wearing formally but they don't realize it.

deric88: Depends but I think most people will be busy with their parents and hostels. If wanna do meet up, another time or dinner time. I'm sure most parents left at that time.

By the way, I'm also a freshie from Foundation in IT. Moving in this Sunday. Hopefully to meet all of you there as well.

Oooo, that's alright since you are getting a car soon. Just a few weeks of suffering than you are fine back. But, sometimes driving can be hectic too because of JAM!! I hate it because no matter which way I go, I need to go through JAM.

Klang is not that far lah. I don't think 2 hours. What you need to do is just take Kesas from Klang. Then take the Seafield exit to NKVE toward the south. That's all.

Won't jam but cars move slowly because some people use that way to go UPM. After Mines, can straight to highway liao, then can drift car summore. whistling.gif

gym should be free. at mmu melaka it is free.

orientation basically to play some games, discussions, information sharing

to make you feel welcomed, know more about the uni, know more people and make u familiarized with the culture and process of the uni.

you can know people from all different faculties (expand your horizontal).. good as next time, you hardly can know people from other faculties or courses unless if you join extra activities (clubs, societies, etc)

welcome to mmu, be prepared to pay more than what you get.

bad facilities & lower quality education but increased in tuition fees. yeah, i can see this trend cos im studying in mmu, already 4 years

i am seriously pissed off with FBL Melaka. some new lecturers really "boleh" pakai

jobneed: No, this Sunday is not only for hostel registration.

Hopefully to meet all of you there as well.

i lost my shit... thats why i need to ask... i still cant find it...

dunno if you noe or not, but when you submit the registration documents, we only sent some rite? not all of it... rite? what are the documents that we have to present on that day itself only??

thanks...

Hi guys, just want to ask if we need to dress formally (sleeves + long black pants) at the registtration tomorrow.

Also, we return home after the registration and go back at 31st for orientation? During orientation are we staying at the hostel?

Lastly, I know that we have to dress formally for the orientation, but is it everyday?

Btw, Foundation in IT - Cyberjaya. smile.gif
