PC stuff is very hard to compare~.~
I think it will just depends on your own luck with using your laptop.
Maybe brand can be compare through the customer service,their service provide how is it. Price,time,etc.

Not a suprise.. Look at Q4, 2009 sales:

1. HP
2.Acer
3.Dell

no surprise there. same reason as why proton/perodua end up as best sellling cars in Msia. CHEAP !!! and low quality

it's a fact that Acer was pretty bad a few years back, in particular 2004 and 2005...

acer is fine based on my usage 2007-8. The earlier models were crappy.

Those who voted for VAIO and Apple need to get a life. Those are HIGH-END laptops, hence the price. I have used HP, Acer and Toshiba previously, and I found my new Apple a world of difference compared to my previous laptop. Nothing beat Macbooks in terms of design and quality..

You can't degrade a laptop just because it's high-end. If you guys don't care about the brand, just price vs. hardware specs, then just go custom make your laptop- let it have no-brand... I'm sure it'll be several hundred cheaper than several brands.

Macbooks rock btw(I'm using Win 7 on it).....

hands up for voting Apple, but not becuz i am jealous or wat...

read the reviews and u'll see how they really fail with the cooling solution of the latest MBP...

and they failed on the aluminiom design. very easy to get dent

if you can dent the aluminium, then i guess if you use other brands which is plastic, you're definitely gonna smash the laptop.

As for cooling on MBP... high performance laptops tend to always be a little on the hot side. You can cool it down a lot more if you lower down the power settings(performance)..

I've used AMD on Compaq and Acer.... 80-100C is no big deal...

But Macbooks are the only laptops which can give you 9-10hour battery.. And the design is way better.. no more cd-try, and it's also thinner and lighter than equivalent laptops.

yeah, but not 100C during load on MBP 17" when the CPU is merely a 35W TDP dual core... even if the T-max is 105C...

and no, battery life is not sth to boast abt... u can get long battery life easily by restricting the CPU usage to no more than 5%, disable all the blink blink, etc...

no CD tray??? i actually prefer CD tray... slot in drives are more prone to problems... yeah, it looks cool, but u can't dig out the disc if it doesn't eject it for watever reason... many Dell Studio 15 owners complained abt it...

Funny, My currecnt Acer 5942G (corei7, blu ray) build quality is better than those of lenovo and dell.
You have to admit Acer's build quality is improving.

At least, acer is improving(2x/4x) especially 09/10' models.....

I'm not a fan of Apple, but look at this:

It looks like a Macbook fan club meeting.. I don't think everyone would take their lappy out in a lecture setting like that.. and all macbook looks more like staged..

ps- Mac just has 3% of the OS share.. the pic above is definitely abnormal.

customer is not satisfied with the old model acer because overheat.
the problem is rare to hear about new model acer laptop.

acer has improved quality and no longer is highest rank of the worst laptops
