just sharing..

went to TBM at Bangsar Village recently and looked at the panasonic 50U20k display set - its a full hd G13 panel 50" plasma. Saw a thin pinkish line from the top drawing down almost 3/4 down middle of the screen.

was really surprised with the fault and problem since this model was only released in april 2010. in terms of warranty, yeah 2 years but the RM amount of repair within the 2 yrs warranty cannot be more than the amount purchased...betul ka?

Guess all makes and models have the quirks...now which has the best out of the box warranty? spending like 3-4k for a TV that only lasts 3 yrs seems a waste these days.

Have omos similar dillema deciding between Samsung 4 series and LG . Finally decided on LG because its a newer model and more importantly Samsung use plasticky screen while LG use glass screen.

Looks like everyone is going for 50 inch plasma nowadays...
Sadly my budget runs thin...

On that note, I saw SenQ having a promotion on the new model PS42C451 which is so new I can't seem to find anything about it on the net..
It's going for RM1999 (NP RM2799)... do you guys think the price is right?

Well thanks for the info. BUT can you also furnish us with details of how many hours have your plasma clocked? Did your kid (just guessing you have one) often play with the power button? Did someone accidentally spilled coffee on it? And maybe other circumstances which could have contributed to this damage? You certainly didn't get a bad unit as it has been serving you well for 3 years. Until we know all these circumstances, I think we should reserve our judgment. It's all so easy to come to a conclusion but a brand won't last for very long if they have this kind of quality issues.

Hi, sorry, did not see yr reply.. so here is the response...

Been using the LG Plasma TV for like 3 years, average use... probably 5 hours per day...

No one spill anything or damage, it just happened suddenly ... it it just that I would assume LG would have a better quality for their LG Plasma TV... i think the retail price when I got it was like RM7000+ for a 42" non-HD model.. now is so much cheaper!!!!

Secondly, their LG repair contrator is REALLY REALLY BAD.. it just makes the LG name bad... bcos :-

1. They never returned the 3 faulty parts to me

2. It least show me the faulty parts, even if they wanna keep it for spare parts for other functioning components

3. When I complained to them directly, no one took action. Only when I complained directly to LG, they show up my place and do some
"wayang".... pretend to do some white wash on the screen and kinda tell me that after their repair, this is what I get...

At least repair this annoying "pinkish" problems together with the three parts they replaced!!!! I am sure it would not cost any much more than the RM1,100 I paid for the repair cost.

One word of advise for all potential LG buyers, if your LG TV / Plasma / LCD is out of warranty, just pray that it does not spoil cos you will be ripped off by LG Service Contractor!!!!!

I'm still using this LG Plasma TV with the above mention problems since the day after the repair... it is still very annoying everyday before the LG TV gets warm up...

I bought the 42PJ350R today, and I'm damn angry. Why do they sell the R version to Malaysia, while Singapore gets the non-R version, which is much better? The R seems to be missing: calibration tools, expert picture settings, digital audio output, DVB-T and DVB-C. Also no mkv/HD support it seems. What the hell? At least in other countries you set 42PJ350 to Finland or Sweden and you'll get DVB-T/C, but that doesn't seem to work with the R. How crappy is that?! Stupid LG, making all those different versions that are almost indistinguishable visually/from the model number, but completely different.

Anyone got any experience in flashing the 42PJ350 firmware onto this? (I'm afraid they used a different, cheaper CPU etc.). And it's not like the R is cheaper than the non-R in other countries...

At least I paid 1699 for it, which is somewhat reasonable. I wonder if I can bring it back tho...

Found more infos in a Bulgarian forum... the R models stand for Russia, and do not have DVB-T (I wouldn't be surprised if the tuner does support it, but it is deactivated for whatever reasons). I'm living near the Singaporean border and can receive their DVB-T broadcasts, but my receiver doesn't have HDMI/HD support, so I'd love to user the built in tuner. Anyway, it seems that one can access the service menu, need to hack a remote control for that. We'll see what can be done there.

They also show how to activate media playback on the PJ250 model, perhaps this can also activate MKV/HD media on the 350.
