Wondering whether I should take my company's corporate plan for iPhone 4 or not... I get 20% off the published monthly rates, but the minutes seem quite low, especially the SMS part, only 500 per month whereas on Prepaid I get 50 free sms with every 5 sent.

my co also offering same, trying to
choose between singtel and starhub

But it seems like not worth it for heavy SMSer like me. How much they charge for international SMS anyway?

Arrggh.. .wtf...

Today i go collect my iPhone reservation 32GB, encounter so much problem

No more stock on 32GB, been offered 16GB, which is fine...

and then, been informed the corporate rate... and for corporate, i will need not to pay the registration fee and the micro sim fee...

and then, problem started, because i am using S-Pass, i need to pay $363 for the phone! for  iPhone Lite Plan, which monthly $56 ( not corporate price )

I was been told, iPhone Lite plan $56 or iPhone Extreme $98, both same, have to pay fixed price, $363~ that Cs told me all carrier is the same, even if i go to other carrier like singtel or starhub.. she even told, S-Pass is special pass, that's why got "special" price... wtf...~~~

i was so furious, was never been told...

That customer service at the center told, if i was using work permit, then i have to pay $800 deposit ? wtf...

Now i regret never ask my company to rectify and change to EP.... arrgh...

to make my dissappointment, i travel to Singtel ComCentre, i double check, triple check, no need pay any other fee, even thought am S-Pass... just need to pay for the registration fee and the micro sim card fee, and the phone itself for the plan i want..~ in the end.. make a reservation with singtel.. ( have to wait again sad.gif )

sigh....
*
M1 is it? The corporate plan is it they fixed 20% off for all plan? Cos when I called, they said discount for Keppel group of companies for iPhone Plan is $44.8 (from normal $56). But my friend on Take 3 said his monthly payment got discount nearly 50%. Different rates for different sort of plans?

we are offered iFlexi Value plan at SGD$30 (normal SGD$56) per month. Need only to pay SGD$110 (normal SGD$888) for the iPhone4 16GB. also need to sign 2 years contract. worth it ? anyone else got a better corporate rate ?
*
Uhh...SGD888 is if you buy the phone without a contract right? Since you are getting iFlexi Value you should only 'normally' pay around SGD200 for the phone, but still a good deal get 50% off.

Yeah it's hard to find a nice owner. I stayed with a malaysian couple once...pure nightmare. I dunno they are stressed out from work or what, but they were very unfriendly. Currently I am staying with a very cool Malaysian angmoh, very sporting and always ready to chat. It really makes a big difference to your daily life to not go back to a scowl and forced to hide yourself in the room all the time.

The life of a government contractor is like that...RM363, cos he sub to dunno how many subcontractors to do the actual purchasing while the difference is kept as profit, haha.

Why dun just use usb/wifi tethering on a 3g phone plan? feel to me like all three mobile bb service is the same, which is crappy.

The 3G phone plans use the same 3G network that the 3G bb plans do. There is no difference within the same company's infrastructure. What might be different is the modem's capability between your phone and the computer.

As for tethering (if you are a heavy internet user), you will either be charging your phone constantly (usb tethering) or charging it often (BT tethering). Either way you'll quickly use up the recharging cycles on your phone's battery. If you have a phone that gets quite hot with use, you'll shorten the reliable life of all the other components as well. And if you have an iPhone, you'll end up with a dead battery you can't replace yourself in a very power hungry phone.
*
Hmm if I tether via USB, I thought after fully charging the battery, it would bypass it and send power directly to the phone? I didn't know they are still trickle charging even when full. What is the battery life of a fully charged iphone4? I saw people are getting 7 hrs of video playback.

A large number of singaporeans have upgraded themselves to the PMET level and most of them are reluctant or unwilling to be in the service industry or manufacturing sector which is being lapped up by foreigners. It would be a win-win situation where the singaporean hire foreigners for less money for jobs which most singaporeans are already unwilling to work.

Construction, customer service and mechanical engineering are areas which singaporeans demographic is falling since they have been brought up to be either better or to shun these jobs. Most singaporeans prefer to work a normal 8-5 job in an air conditioned environment in front of a computer.

Even my client saipem hardly take singaporeans since they shun jobs which involve going inside or near a ship drenched in oil. Which reminds me of an incident whereby a singaporean fella was on the ship doing some sort of assessment and everybody could see that he was very uncomfortable even just standing on deck and kept on checking his glove for stains.
*
Adding to this, my own company (shipyard) is also filled with Malaysians. When u ask any singaporean working here, they will say life in shipyard SUCKS, many are just there for the experience or just to get the money, then everyday complain about the stuff they have to deal with.

For one thing the working hours is really tiring (730am to 430pm, usually OT till 630pm or beyond) and its a lousy environment (for their standards). I've heard of people commenting that they would never venture to this part of Singapore because they can feel the air being very different.

Well, there's a job and somebody's gotta do it...

Well, the sucky part is getting there on time at 7.30, so one wonders what time you have 2 wake up, and then wait for company transport. But the bonus is very good btw. If your the project engineer, you just sit at the office and ask the foreman to report to you most of the time while you just check paper work. Once in awhile if something needs your attention then you venture out into the open.

Worst off are the menial foreign workers who toil rain/shine from 7.30 to 6.30 coz they need the OT. Shipyards and some refineries in jurong dont even provide basic drinking water for those workers. So far the only which does is sembawang. The rest drink from corroded pipes which look like from the 80's. Plus they have seperate bathrooms, like those for whites and blacks.
*
Usually wake up around 530am, then go to office sleep haha. AFAIK, the PJE in my company all complain...they have to go on site, attend VSCC, commissioning meeting, etc. N as PJE you have to have a general idea of what's going on if not kena shoot by your superior if anything happen. Big responsibility. Engineering better...sit in office unless got site issue hehe. But that's why PJE paid higher...if not they will just quit. Keppel also provides drinking point and also open toilet. Pee while looking into Jurong Island at 100ft above sea level =P. But yea life is definitely tough for them.

Where do u stay? I play badminton somewhere near Tampines. PM me if interested. Let me know also if you r looking for kaki to join u.
*
Tampines ah...quite far as I stay in Lakeside, but where to play? I guess as long as in Green Line it should be OK. My friend told me CC you have to book 2 weeks in advance.

QUOTE(Jurlique @ Aug 17 2010, 01:03 AM)
I wanna join too... maybe we can play tennis too.. anyone interested?
*
Where you staying? I know CC got badminton courts but not sure about tennis. Usually only see those in high-class condos. =P

Do u guys know of any good Japanese Buffet Restaurant around town area or Serangoon area? Budget around $30-$40 with free flow sashimi.

Any recommendations?
*
For more budget experience can try Suki Sushi. The selection menu not as large but the important thing is they have free flow sushi sashimi! Me and my friends tasted it and loved it. Good service and food is fresh, easily beats the lousy RM88 places in KL like Tenji and Jogoya. Per pax around $25 with gst.

Where izit? Izit sushi sashimi or fresh 100% sashimi?

All over singapore have branches. Just google Suki Sushi. We tasted it and it was fresh enough for us (it was a weekend, so maybe high turnover). My GF is a sashimi fanatic and she finds it to be very fresh.

most of the time i will be flying around $30-$40 for the air ticket. just book around 2 weeks in advance than can edi. But if expensive period also around $60-70 only. I don't go back that often, now i wait Jetstar promo i only go back. I am a fat guy so if sit Airasia, not comfortable. Tiger got more legroom but still not comfortable. Still Jetstar is the best but around $4-5 more expensive. But Jetstar we can pay with the SAM machine to save the $6 admin fees. So still Jetstar better.
*
Not bad prices. 30-40$ for return flight? That's cheaper than taking bus, haha.

I have to fly back to Sabah often soon...family is there. Both ways also $175 and above...

There's a Giant at IMM, but its quite far from where you are. Tomorrow I'm going to try taking a leisure trip via Causeway Link to JB side Jusco. Some things are cheaper in Singapore than Malaysia though. For eg, I can buy 1L Dutch Lady milk in Sg for $1.40, but in Malaysia they are selling for RM6!

I have a friend who pursued degree in Malaysia, managed to find an intern job during his final year in Singapore, during 2008. But he works for FOC.
*
I interned (Latihan Industry) at Keppel too. Its not impossible nor hard to do, just see how much effort you put in to get it. No I don't have any relatives or friends in Sg helping me out through this. And I come from an 'unknown' local university called UTeM =P

iPad? hmmm.... I still prefer a proper laptop than an iPad.

Not laptop's lighter than the iPad though. It's great if you need a big screen and portability. But the LCD not so great to look at outdoors under the sun.
