QUOTE(Mackiddo @ May 18 2010, 07:51 PM) it's a laughing stock when the Ministry of Education having a flip-flop policies. Last time used to teach in Malay, then English, then back to Malay. I'm glad I sent my kids to be schooled in Sg. At least I know they will be treated equally when it's time to go University or JC. I don't agree Msia education is more rounded. It's actually Sg education which is more rounded, less based on text book, more on research and 'out of the box' thinking. If not why would hundred, probably thousand of parents in JB sending their kids to be school in Sg ? To make their children suffer the 1 hours or so travel time. I wonder how does one encourage out of the box thinking since you just tell people not to follow their predecessor method of solving the problem. But then again they will just wikipedia it so thats not really thinking out of the box is it. This post has been edited by crapp0: May 18 2010, 08:00 PM

QUOTE(dokidoki @ May 19 2010, 10:15 AM) some silly question....1st time in SG and my company say will subsidy my mobile phone call for sgd50. want to check any1 on M1 take3 plan?..do i need to pay anything when 1st sign up? what are the document i need to give when apply the postpaid line? I would rather go for singtel or starhub if im on a mobile plan. But if mobile broadband plan for PC, then M1 since their priced competitively and their performance has recently increased. Now i can see youtube videos after 7pm without having to wait for it to load.

QUOTE(dokidoki @ May 19 2010, 12:05 PM) even the iphone plan is not worth?..saw the iphone lite plan is only sgd56/mth..but i dunno what other charges impose sgd200...wow..that's alot Im actually more concerned with carrier specific coverage as well as net traffic load. I know a few fellas who have singtel 3G where the performance all-around is much better then starhub or M1 has to offer. This post has been edited by crapp0: May 19 2010, 02:30 PM

GKS was one of Singapore's founding fathers, served as DPM and was one of the prime architects of modern Singapore. Somebodies touchy. Thanks for the history lesson. QUOTE(cks2k2 @ May 23 2010, 11:53 AM) He shaped the education and financial system, started Jurong industrial area, established EDB, GIC, Temasek, Singapore army and NS among other things... LKY was the political mastermind, but GKS was the master architect. GKS was related to Tan Cheng Lock/Tan Siew Sin... I know a few singaporeans who dont like him coz they hate NS. One guy hasnt been called to the reservist since he convincingly gives excuses such as being outstation on numerous occasions for an extended periods and paying a psychiatrist to issue a letter stating that he is mentally unfit to do NS. I guess if NS doest check in detail and the guy is willing to put the effort to deceive the NS authorities then its fine. This post has been edited by crapp0: May 23 2010, 12:38 PM

I guess people look for connections to famous people so that they too can feel important or more precisely to ride on a dead persons credentials by saying he's either related or the same race or countrymen.

QUOTE(darkages @ May 23 2010, 03:51 PM) Hi all, Would like to get some of your views on the following scenario: Landlord has rented a room to a Tenant and there is a clause in the tenancy agreement which says " Both Tenant & Landlord can give 1-month notice for early termination of Tenancy after minimum occupation of 6 months. In this case, the Deposit shall be refundable less deduction for damages cause by the Tenant, if any. In the event of early termination, the party who initiated termination shall cause to refund the paid agent’s commission on a proration basis to the other party within 15 days". Here's the situation, if the Landlord decides to terminate the tenancy agreement before the minimum occupation of 6 months, say on the 3rd month, would the Tenant be in a position to claim 3 months rent compensation from the Landlord in addition to agent's commission. *Note Tenant has not breach any terms in the agreement. From the tenancy agreement or the part which you have posted here, either party who wants out of the tenancy agreement b4 the minimum occupation has to pay back to the other party the agent commission, full stop. Its quite unreasonable for either party to commit to an agreement where if they dont serve out the minimum occupation period, they have to pay back the other party the rental balance if the minimum time has not been met. QUOTE(Jurlique @ May 25 2010, 09:34 PM) You guys are discussing about the selling of Tj Pagar KTM by MY to SG. Since MY lacks of $$$ currently, I would prefer if the PM Najib could sell an island/sand equivalent to the size of SG to SG. That would be win2 situation, MY gets the money whereas SG gets the land. Better still, sell 2 Johor's river to SG. Malaysia just did that with brunei whereby land which was in dispute between malaysia and brunei (Brunei had the upper hand and would win in an international court), so malaysia or pak lah specifically made a deal with brunei that they would give them certain blocks of offshore area which contained an estimate USD 100 billion dollar worth of oil. I sure hope that piece of land aka limbang was worth 100 billion dollars. This post has been edited by crapp0: May 26 2010, 08:41 AM

QUOTE(Ten_Tay_ToL @ Jun 1 2010, 05:43 PM) if ur monthly usage is low.. then definitely that will be worth.. but if ur monthly usage is quite high, then free phone plan to go Why not just ask your company to put you on company blackberry enterprise plan. Since it wont be personal but for business but you can take advantage of using it for minor personal calls or using skype whenever you feel homesick or to call love ones. I rarely call my parents or frens over the phone, preferring to use either skype, e-mail or msn. This post has been edited by crapp0: Jun 1 2010, 05:51 PM

QUOTE(yinyum @ Jun 4 2010, 12:02 AM) Omg.. Leave sg for Brunei?! U sure?? It's such a boring country! Who said its boring, get to live expat lifestyle. Thats if you work for shell, goto either SRC or panaga country club. Plus they have alot of activities for children as well with the school just opposite the club. Plus purchasing a car is cheap, has one of the lowest oil prices in south east asia and the main road from kuala beliat to seria is usually just a straight road so you can speed with no probs plus the roads are very well maintained within the kuala beliat - seria area since alot of shell staff are housed either in the outskirts of seria or in kuala belait. Plus there are a couple of shell staff who have their own micro-brewery for "personal" consumption. This post has been edited by crapp0: Jun 4 2010, 08:59 AM

QUOTE(Lester1987 @ Jun 5 2010, 06:39 AM) if i stay in JB, definitely i will buy a bike and travel lo. but i guess my aunt will not suggest me to do that as she always ask me to stay in SG instead. not sure if can find a $400 common room lets say if my house owner really move. if with aircond + internet, i don't mind paying $500. aircond at 500? Good luck with that since its high unlikely a stranger would rent you with air con at 500 unless you stay in the utility room. And even then most singaporeans are "ngiau" and will complain once the electricity bill goes above what "they" see fit.

QUOTE(shanelai @ Jun 9 2010, 08:40 PM) I wanna ask if there is any law or act to protect us as a tenant? What if i had signed tenancy agreement to rent the room but within the renting period the owner ask me to move out? Most if not all tenancy agreements are designed by nature to jerk around the tenant and protect the landlord, the only difference is how much jerking is done to the tenant. Usually for a 1 year contract, if either party breaks away from the contract within the first 3 months, then the party which breaks the contract must pay back to the other party the agent fee if there is one. If you didnt go through an agent, then the landlord has every right to jerk you around as he/she sees fit or benefits them the most from your misfortune.
