Wow, only 5-6 yrs working experience only ...i dun tin it will hit up to 10kSGD...

5-6 years experience, internal audit (ie. no business or profit impact, compulsory but not a profit critical activity)... I think you'll be lucky if you see the sunny side of 5K. Chances are much better if you're applying to a big MNC or investment bank... and if your 5-6 years experience were in the Big4 or big MNCs.

...izzit worth it to get a iPhone 3GS now ? Just got new Corporate offer, iPhone 3GS 16gb , SGD$0 , 24 months contract for iFlexi Value plan SGD$30 per month (Usual SGD$56). Thought of getting another iPhone.

Sounds like a good deal. It's like buying the phone for $770 ($30*24*1.07) on a 2 year instalment plan and get 24 months data plan free.

If I wanted an iPhone, I'd go for it.

iphone 4 out end of july why not wait for another 2 weeks?

iPhone 4 is not going to be $770 net net with 24 months of free 3G mobile plan.

Besides, you have to hold the phone like the guy in Death Note if you don't want your calls to drop.

I would go for Capitaland. It's 40% owned by Temasek, and if you make it onto their fast track or senior management ranks, you can move from GLC to GLC. Gives you the width and breadth possibilities of a huge MNC, but without the international feel though.

Golden Agri to me, is just like another Chinaman listed palm oil company, very much like KLK, IOI etc. Unless you're fortunate enough to be one of the inner circle, you'll never get very far. There will always be someone with a particular surname or relationship etc stepping on your head.

Having said that,.. of course if your destiny is to never make it past the senior management levels, you can't care less lah. Go for the best paymaster.

Hi, I have one question here. My gf and I will be working in singapore soon. Btw, we plan to get marry this October. I read some infor about  giving birth in singapore and it is damn expensive. So our plan is to have our baby birth in malaysia and bring the baby back to singapore. Is that ok? will the allow the baby entry into singapore? what is the common practice by others?

You've never seen tourists with babies?

Tourist is just visiting -short period only. Its different from working.

I don't think there's any democratic govt in the world that separates babies from their parents. That answers your question whether it's "ok".

Now... whether your children will automatically get long term or permanent residency status... that's an entirely different issue. It depends on your class of employment permit. The immigration dept website has all the details.

So, of course it's ok. It's just a matter of how much hassle it involves. At worst, you just go to JB and back every few weeks to renew the tourist visa.

Just curious on a PR question.  If I were to get a PR and my family stays in Malaysia (only once a while casual visits to SG), can I be a PR and my family remains as non-PR?

Of course. If you don't apply for them, they will have no resident status in Singapore.

It's been discussed hundreds of times in this and all the previous SG threads. Do a search lah.

why don't you use money changer TT? charges is $10 and i think the rates is better than bank

I usually send money back to Malaysia to pay for shares. It's a real pain to go to a bank, withdraw 20-30K, then walk around with that kind of money to a money changer and then trust them (and their staff) to TT it back for me. I know they have licences and everything... but even if it's their staff who steals it, you'll be dragged into making police reports, court cases etc. I don't have the stomach for that.

That's the same as the P1 EP. It's meant to replace the P1 and give P1 holders the outright flexibility to change employers.

Just noticed that there's no $2000 tax rebate this year (YA2010) when I received my tax assessment this afternoon. Damn! Small consolation is this year can pay using credit card via ibanking. At least get back some cashback, points or miles.

How come your assessment for YA2010 came so late?

Dunno. I guess it's just the cycle I fall under. My assessments always come in July, and payable by mid August. Same every year.

think time to cancel my Giro deduction. After so many years, i still dunno if my giro is interest free, weather it's pre or pro deduction ? any idea ?

No idea leh. Never used giro for income tax. Not sure how much interest you can save though, given the low savings interest rates. Unless of course your tax payable is huge drool.gif

Normally for the first year if I do not work for more than 183 days, I will kena 15% tax, right?  Is there anyway to appeal for this to lower that?  Just curious.

What is the reason for the appeal?

QUOTE(Osmosis @ Jul 22 2010, 10:48 PM)
Just wana ask... do SG company provide any bonuses like translocation bonus, settling bonus or joining bonus? If yes, what is the estimate range?

My company just hired a new Tech Service & Development Engineer. The chap was in KL and moved to Singapore to join us. We gave him 2 months stay at a serviced apartment at Cairnhill Rd and one-off relocation assistance of roughly 1-2 months salary. The cash was paid to him on the first day of work so that he does not have to wait until pay day to get money to pay deposits for rental, buy necessities etc.

As for joining bonus, my company does sometimes pay for experienced hires. It's usually based on the value of stock options, deferred shares, deferred bonus, long service bonus, long service leave etc that the candidate had accumulated from his previous job.

For those chaps whom we really, REALLY want to hire, we'll give them an additional bonus to compensate them for the loss of service years at their previous job. Usually 1 month of salary per year of service.

Very impressive! hahahaha

More like very expensive.

But if you're hiring someone who's mid-career, and who will lose $200K of deferred shares if they leave their company before those shares vest... it's pretty hard to entice them with a simple 20-30% salary increase. Even if you give them a 50% salary increase from 10K to 15K, it'll be 40 months before they just start to break even.

The name of Tech Service & Development Engineer seems to be a normal range engineer but however the amount of 'extras' paid to him is worth very high value...  May I know what range of salary would he be expecting ? any idea ?...

He's getting around 5-6K, based on his job level. He's late 20s-early 30s.

Btw, this guy didn't get the joining or additional bonuses I mentioned. A bit too junior for that.
