hsbc amanah has cc also. but this cc cannot collect points, right?
cause my gf has the normal hsbc cc, and her statement has the points section. whereas mine is cash back.

wondering should i change card or bank. the cashback is so little, like every 5th or 7th transaction, i think
Not just every 5th or 7th transaction but all your expenses charged to the card are entitled for the 0.5% cash back (except petrol). It is not much difference from the conventional credit card from HSBC. Last time a lot of promotions weren't available to HSBC Amanah credit cards but this is no longer the case.

And by the way, your girlfriend needs at least 10,000 HSBC Rewards Points to exchange for a RM50 shopping voucher, which is equivalent to 0.5% cash back just like your HSBC Amanah credit card.

am wondering, which card has the best cash back?

I'm using EON bank and the cash back is 0.5% on all retail including petrol.
What other card can be better? I did my survey cuz i'm currently looking for an extra card, but yet to find any card that's better.

Any advice guys?
Citibank Cash Back Platinum VISA. The savings can be huge even if you're going to spend only on fuel and groceries depending on how much spend every year.

I tot AMEX gold only offers points?
they offer rebates as well?
QUOTE(David83 @ Jul 14 2010, 07:38 AM)
It doesn't offer cash rebate. Just MR points collection.
AMEX does offer cash rebate. Just that you need to exchange your MR points accumulated for the cash rebate. Each Ringgit is worth 200 MR points which is equivalent to at least 1% rebate (up to 2.5% rebate). Just call the CS up and they will convert it for you. Alternatively, you can exchange it for some shopping vouchers.

Ya, the downside is that it's not as widely accepted as VISA/Mastercard that's all but everyday things like bills (TNB,TM,Astro, Maxis) and most major petrol station like (Shell or ESSO that I know) accepts AMEX.
Huh ? TM doesn accept AMEX ? This is news to me !

All right. You guys were talking about auto-debit. I thought they have started to accept AMEX over-the-counter or through tmonline.com.my.

Get rewarded with cashback* of RM90 when you apply for an HSBC Gold Credit Card online from 5 July 2010 to 30 September 2010.

anyone?
I just apply online, the procedure is like very long ....

and in the end, the system told me to photostat my IC and send to their office, isnt this a little ... errr, unsafe?
How so ? Even if you walk into their office and apply there, they will still need a carbon copy of your IC.

On the bright side, you do get more what a credit card sales agent can get from the commission should your card is approved. As far as i know, credit card agent will get RM50 for every Classic or Gold card approved and RM100 for Platinum card. HSBC will now give you RM90 for your Gold card which is RM40 more biggrin.gif

I know DA can be cancelled through phone and the CS didn't specifically request to surrender the card to nearest branch. That's why I wanted to confirm if it's the same for MBB.
When my mom canceled her Maybankard Gold AMEX (with Maybankard logo) back in January 2009, she didn't have to surrender her card. Then in October 2009, she canceled her AMEX Green Charge Card and she didn't surrender the card either.

Here are some of the banks with lots of on-going promotion or discount at the moment :
- CIMB Bank
- Citibank
- HSBC
- Maybank
- Public Bank

You should consider AMEX too, by the way.

QUOTE(jchong @ Jul 16 2010, 04:32 PM)
I have a question on the forex rate used by the credit card for overseas transactions.

Recently I used my Amex card for a USD transaction and when I saw the statement I noticed the exchange they used was very high (3.42). When I called them they said Amex has a 2.5% surcharge added on.
Yes. Indeed there is a 2.5% surcharge for a true American Express charge card or credit card.

QUOTE(jchong @ Jul 16 2010, 04:32 PM)
With my Maybank MasterCard I notice their rate is about the same as the published forex rate (i.e. no surcharge). Just wondering what is the practice with other banks' credit cards? Got any surcharge?
Yes. All other banks do impose a surcharge too with the exception of Alliance Bank. However, some forum members here who have used both their Alliance Bank credit card and several other credit cards issued by other banks overseas said that when the payment appeared on their bills, Alliance Bank's appeared to be the highest despite their claim that they do not impose any surcharge for overseas transactions.

QUOTE(MilesAndMore @ May 6 2010, 08:24 PM)

Transactions incurred will be converted to Ringgit Malaysia using US Dollars as the base currency on the date the item is received and/or processed at such exchange and at such time as may be determined by VISA International/MasterCard Worldwide at its absolute discretion plus administration cost which is to be imposed by the card issuing bank. The exchange may differ from the rate in effect on the date of the transaction due to market fluctuations. Such rate imposed shall be final and conclusive and the Cardmember shall bear all exchange risks, losses, commission and other bank charges which may thereby be incurred.
- Maybank VISA/MasterCard : 0.5%
- Maybank American Express with Maybank logo on top : 1.5%
- American Express : 2.5%
- CIMB Bank : 1%
- Hong Leong Bank VISA/MasterCard: 1%
- Public Bank : 1.25%
- Citibank : 1%
- HSBC : 1%
- EON Bank : 2%
- UOB Bank : 1%
- Standard Chartered : 1%
- OCBC bank : 1%
- Alliance : Nil
Edit: I just saw the 1st post
Just wondering if above is still current. I called Maybank and HSBC, both said no surcharge (just follow bank's published rate). Dunno is the customer service operator correct or not.
Yes. All of the above are still valid. Maybank and HSBC definitely have a surcharge for payment made in foreign currency. It is stated at the back of the credit card statement.

And one more thing, the foreign exchange rate is determined by VISA International/MasterCard Worldwide/American Express and not your card's issuer bank. There is no where to find out what is the current foreign exchange rate of VISA International/MasterCard Worldwide/American Express as the information is not publicly available.

Yeah ... are you sure you applied for RHB VISA Infinite? Last I know ... they only issue this card to PB customers.
RHB PB customers RM200K deposit only qualifies for complimentary Gold card and Platinum need RM500K deposit. Infinite ... well definitely need a lots of moolah and that why their CL starts @ RM200K.
Apparently all RHB Bank Premier Banking customers will now be issued a complimentary VISA Platinum credit card.

You apply for RHB cc in Malaysia or in Singapore? (Guys ... Singapore got RHB bank also)
RHB Bank Singapore is very much a sleeping bank laugh.gif And they do not offer any credit card in Singapore. Since CIMB Bank is so eager to tackle the Singaporean market, i wonder why they they do not try to buy RHB Bank's Singapore business over (RHB Bank has 7 branches there) ? hmm.gif

have anyone tried before??because, i just upgrade my card to GC early this month...wondering entitled or not..

again, upgrade, not new application...

thanks...
No. You are not entitled for the above campaign. It is meant for fresh application only. Strictly no upgrade. It won't work if you cancel your card now and re-apply in a few weeks time as you can only apply for a new card from them a few months later. It is six months later, if i'm not mistaken.

anyone has more info regarding HSBC Advanced Plat? Can I get the card as a standalone without the CA package?
From the information i gathered, no. You are not allowed to do so.

QUOTE(alexwsk @ Jul 22 2010, 01:36 AM)
Is the benefit same as HSBC Plat? Thx
It is still a relatively new card. Therefore, there isn't adequate information available on this card. Anyway, the Takaful insurance cover for HSBC Advance VISA Platinum is not as high as the one for HSBC Premier MasterCard and HSBC VISA Platinum.

By the way, HSBC is also giving out RM160 if you apply for this HSBC Advance VISA Platinum credit card online. I am so freaking tempted now drool.gif

I used to hold a HSBC gold cc few yrs back, not sure whether I'm eligible for the RM160 or not

A few years ago, right ? If this is the case, then yes. You are eligible for the RM160.

QUOTE(alexwsk @ Jul 22 2010, 04:59 AM)
so if we apply online, are they going to open the CA package as well? I wonder how they can get the 20k if we open online.
You will have to apply for the HSBC Advance first. I suppose they just expect you to make the deposit at their branch someday when you go to get your HSBC Advance ATM card.

Anyway, if you open the HSBC Advance online, you'll see a message that you'll be applying for the HSBC Advance VISA Platinum at the same time (see below).

And the account maintenance fee won't come into play until 1st January 2011.

Guys, not sure if this is already covered, but I was just told by my Maybank branch that they are reducing the income requirement for their Platinum cards to only RM5k/month.
Nope. No one has said anything about that until now. I guess we really are going the American style now and Classic/Gold card shall be history soon (except AMEX of course).

The RHB Bank VISA Infinite is still very much alive.

QUOTE(nonexno @ Jul 22 2010, 01:25 PM)
which credit card would you pick for a visa and mastercard?

Visa
1. Eon Visa Signature
2. RHB Visa Infinite
3. Standard Chartered Visa Infinite
4. Citi Visa Signature - Low entry?

Standard Chartered Bank VISA Infinite due to the 5x Choice Points for every RM1 charged to the card in foreign currency.

QUOTE(nonexno @ Jul 22 2010, 01:25 PM)
Master
1. HSBC Premier Master
2. OCBC Master Platinum (by invitation only - on their website)

I'd go for HSBC Premier MasterCard over OCBC Platinum MasterCard anyday ! There basically is no promotion at all for OCBC Bank credit card.

QUOTE(nonexno @ Jul 22 2010, 01:25 PM)
I'm not keen on CIMB cards
How so ? They do have a lot of promotions every year.
