With regards to insurance benefit attached to our credit cards, who is here ever try to make a claim ?

my case with RHB travel money, my luggage was delayed (flight ticket was purchased with RHB Travel money)..so i try to claim, card centre asked me to call RHB Insurance....RHB insurance also dont know about this even i read the policy number to them (policy number stated in RHB Bank Visa/master cardholder agreement)...how come la....poor service la..even same entity also very slow...offer benefit but not aware of whats there're offering to customers....where's the synchronization between them ??
I've never tried myself. Anyway, there is a master policy in their website. Not sure if RHB has it in their website but HSBC does have it on theirs. Basically it is hard for us to qualify for the claim. The HSBC credit card travel insurance is insured by HSBC Takaful (their wholly-owned subsidiary). You can refer to the table below for their T&C. It shouldn't be far off from the RHB one.

By the way, in order to be eligible for the luggage delay claim, only if the incident took place overseas is covered. If it happened within Malaysia, then sorry to tell you that you won't be able to claim anything.

How come the last time I called HSBC, they said none of their credit card comes with free travel insurance?
Clearly you've been misinformed. Anyway, all their credit cards do come with complimentary travel insurance. When you make the claim, you just need to call HSBC up. The insurance policy is underwritten by HSBC Amanah.

What's wrong with 30K , its not low ?

It's pretty low in my opinion.

QUOTE(rjb123 @ Jun 29 2010, 08:42 PM)
In the UK if you have Premier account, Premier limit starts at £5K (~RM24K) , but deposit requirement is also higher at £60K (~RM290K)
The requirement is very low for a high income society like UK. One of the highest HSBC Premier entry requirement is Hong Kong i believe. You need to have a minimum deposit of HKD1 Million to qualify. Anyway, many people in Hong Kong qualify for Private Banking services. So i guess this HSBC Premier Hong Kong requirement is considered very low to them.

QUOTE(Feugo @ Jun 29 2010, 10:06 PM)
RHB Credit Card can use worldwide ah? I'm thinking getting Citybank Credit Card but they(friends) keep saying the interest rate is high o_o seriously? What is the best credit card for traveling?
All credit cards issued by all banks in Malaysia are good for overseas use. You might want a card that gives you double or triple points when you use it overseas.

QUOTE(Blythe.. @ Jun 29 2010, 11:09 PM)
anyone know requirements for citibank premiermiles and cashback platinum??

maybank put me 2nd time force a credit/charge card...now charge me already rm238. WTF.. can i sue them legally?
i never apply or sign any form for this crap.
Do you know what's the RM238 for ? Have you ever used the card ? Because even if it's a new card, you will be charged only RM50 top as RM50 is the credit card tax.

QUOTE(shoduken @ Jun 30 2010, 02:06 AM)
is it "too-over" if i swipe my card for meal for 2 that cost RM 40+ or RM 15 for a Guardian's shop item?
No. Not at all. I do it all the time laugh.gif

QUOTE(shoduken @ Jun 30 2010, 02:06 AM)
I do that because cost each RM1 means a point for my card.

Exactly !

QUOTE(shoduken @ Jun 30 2010, 02:06 AM)
anyone think that it's kinda "over" to swipe card for something below RM50?
In a very advanced country like the United States, cash is still a big part of their lives but almost everyone relies solely on plastic nowadays. I even know some people that only bring cards and their driver's license when they go out because their credit/debit cards are all they need to pay for something thumbup.gif

No need to sue them. Just file a complaint to the customer care unit.

Suddenly I felt Rewards point for Citibank is better than Cashback after a few studies due to the different Tier of outstanding balance in order to enjoy the 2% or 3.88% rebates for Gold Cashback. Yeah unless I'm eligible for Gold Cashback, Clear card is now the best bang for my bucks, anyone agree with me? biggrin.gif
Or you can switch to other credit card provider that provides better return through the points given.

QUOTE(Optiplex330 @ Jun 30 2010, 08:10 AM)
The Premier service you get in Malaysia are of much higher quality than UK. Here they treat you like Kings but in UK, you are just a normal customer. Not sure about HK.

The reason is because there simply are way too many people qualify for HSBC Premier in the UK which make it not exclusive anymore. It's the same thing in the United States. People looking for a more exclusive service will instead bank with private bank. HSBC Premier or Citibank CitiGold in UK and US are just going to help you to waive some fees and that's pretty much all.

And as for the HSBC Premier service provided in Hong Kong, i'd say they are pretty good despite there are also too many people qualify for HSBC Premier in Hong Kong.

HSBC Premier Malaysia has one of the lowest entry requirement in the whole world where HSBC is providing Premier services. I suppose it's because they are still building their ultra-light private banking aka Premier customer base.

QUOTE(leyley @ Jun 30 2010, 10:43 AM)
Are you all who reply her sure of the minimum annual income for this card? This card is a VISA Signature.

PremierMiles VISA Signature
- Annual Principal Card Membership
RM600.00 per annum
- Annual Supplementary Card Membership

You can't be paying RM600.00 per annum for this card that required 60K only right shakehead.gif
Yes. It is clearly stated in Citibank website.

It's too late mate ! Your credit report is now officially "calar" liao.

QUOTE(Dannyl @ Jun 30 2010, 02:06 PM)
In more developed countries, buying a bottle of Coke at 7-Eleven with cc is the norm.  The less developed a country/area is, the rarer people pay with cc.  I went to The Store at some Perak town, the people there buy clothes with cash (few hundred ringgit).  Yes, the town has a few banks.  Maybe cc is not promoted much or there is ignorance in its use.
However, it should be noted that only people in the USA rely heavily on plastics. In other developed countries such as Western Europe, most people are still using cash.

QUOTE(rjb123 @ Jun 30 2010, 10:03 PM)
Yes - this is true , very different in some countries

In UK I can pay nearly everything with plastic , £0.50 for sweets in some supermarket / petrol station no problem , when I went to Iceland  - people have credit card with their photo at the back and for small transactions, no signature required (ie. buying coffee)

In places like Germany different, people use it a lot less - shop will give you a funny look if you want to pay for pack of cigs and a drink and pay with card.

Yeah ... it seems that plastics are more popular in English speaking countries and several parts of Asia. This is obviously influenced by those English speaking countries. Another example is the Platinum credit card. Platinum credit card is pretty much the entry level of credit card in Singapore and Taiwan nowadays.

QUOTE(rjb123 @ Jun 30 2010, 10:03 PM)
How is it places like 7-11 here, have any min. transactions for card payment? So far only been using cash, as my Malaysia CC not arrived yet
Not too sure about 7-11 but there was once at Giant, my friend was told the minimum amount is RM10. Popular bookstore is RM20, if my memory serves me correctly. There are also many family-run supermarket/hypermarket that impose a minimum limit for purchase paid by card.

iI dont have fixed income, so I apply HL Essential Visa by securing it with RM10k FD. I got rejected. Any idea why? Is it 10k too little for essential card? Or they dont want do my business?
Supposedly there shouldn't be any problem. May be you can try with other banks ?

By the way, i noticed that in our credit report (CCRIS), there is a special note that which credit card is given by the bank without any collateral and which is a secured credit card by FD. Went to Bank Negara to print out my CCRIS for the very first time yesterday.

Meaning that 00 is for credit card, 29 is for others?
I think the 00 is my credit standing. 00 means that i have never missed a payment. As you can see, i have two credit cards with the first one marked with 00,29 while the second card is marked only with 00. The first card is marked with 29 because i got it by pledging one of my Time Deposit accounts to the card.

It's collateral type instead.
Credit standing should refer the month to month listing.
If it's show "0", then means you never miss payment.
If show "1" means one month default payment, "2" means 2 month default and so on.
If above "3", then your credit application will be rejected by most credit issuers.

Kindly refer the collateral type:
Collateral Type Refers to type of collateral pledged for the credit facility
00 = Clean
So i suppose 00 means the card is not tied to anything ?

Yup brother,
00 means credit issuer granted you the credit facilities and it is under unsecured credit/loan.
29 means you placed a fixed deposit to secured the credit facilities, mostly from credit cards pledged by FD.
Noted. Thanks pal !

QUOTE(devour @ Jul 1 2010, 02:44 PM)
nows the question is, when i place my order and payment, the website requested me to fill in card name, card number, expired date and the Security code also (last 3digit), is it safe to fill in the last 3 digit code??
It is a very common practice that they ask you for the CVV code when buying something online.

called alliance call centre, they say can apply cc by pledging fd. then i went to branch, the girl says cannot. then i asked her to call HQ to clarify, after 30 mins of clarification, finally can.

then, ask to sign letter of set off, and need stamping fee of RM50 (0.5% X RM10k). i thought only need to pay when my card is approved

but she says need to sign and stamping first, then only send for application

is this the usual practise? (need to stamp first and the stamping fee is rm50?)

WHAT ? Stamping fee ? HSBC did not charge me any fee at all when i applied for their credit card by pledging my Time Deposit to it. I believe Public Bank is not going to charge you anything too. Public Bank is the only bank that state publicly in their website that you can apply for secured credit card.

Wow!!! RM50 for applying a CC?
This is really ridiculous and nonsense charge.

I think that's very typical of Alliance Bank. When i closed my savings account a while ago, they insisted that there is a service charge of RM10 no matter how long i've been using the account despite the fact that in their website it is clearly written there is no charge if i close the savings account after 3 months from opening. I suspect the staff attending to him is just like many other Alliance Bank staffs that do not know their own product offerings well.

QUOTE(JJBerry @ Jul 1 2010, 06:29 PM)
Why not you go to PBB? If I am not mistaken the stamp duty just like about RM10,not until RM50 that high.
Does that mean Public Bank will ask you to pay for the stamp duty ? Because when i applied for a secured credit card from HSBC last year, i did not have to pay anything at all tongue.gif

Yes. Same thing. I signed the same thing when i applied for my secured credit card but i paid nothing. No processing fee, no stamping fee whatsoever.

QUOTE(ck_tonny @ Jul 1 2010, 09:05 PM)
Yupe, last time I closed my PLUS savings account, been charged RM10. Do CIMB renew their Smart Reward Programme?
Yes. But they changed the rule already. The new rule comes into effect on 1/1/10. Before 1/1/10, they will charge you RM10 if you want to close the account even if you've been using the account for more than 10 years. But they won't charge you anything now if you close the account after 6 months from the date you opened the account. For basic savings/current account, it's 3 months and they won't charge you anything. The rule is now similar to CIMB Bank's and RHB Bank's.

QUOTE(winner @ Jul 1 2010, 08:17 PM)
Chase, I just wonder, what is the ratio of your CL given by HSBC as opposed to your pledged FD? Since you have done it before, you are the right people to enlighten people here. CL for secured cc varies and is always a debatable question, as secured cc is for those who cannot show proof of income or those do not meet the minimum income requirement.
Only 80% of the total amount pledged. The minimum credit line for HSBC VISA Platinum is RM30,000. So one will need at least RM37,500 to get the card.

QUOTE(Darkmage12 @ Jul 1 2010, 08:29 PM)
Erm last time PBB offered the amount you pledged. You pledge 100k they give 100k
Yes and this rule has not changed. It is still 1:1.
