I am just voicing out my frustration at the ridiculous requirements by Citibank , None of the banks have any information of this nature on their website. THEY NEED TO MAKE A SECTION SPECIFICALLY FOR ALIEN APPLICATIONS.

And by DNA sample , that was just an expression in reference to vast amount of documents they want from you , even if you have an account with them for a long time. Maybe in the future they will need a retina scan and a microchip shoved up the anus , to keep track of them aliens
smile.gif
But Maybank does state clearly what kind of documents they want if you're a foreigner right ? Do check again. Basically the documents needed are more or less the same as Malaysian applicants. You just need to provide another supporting document from your employer and any relevant documents if you're just a contract worker. If you do this in USA or Singapore, they will request for the same documents too. I think it is pretty understandable because since you're a foreigner, it would be hard for the bank to track you down if you just take off without paying any of your credit card bills. Interpol can't help them on credit card defaults.

Citibank not available in Sabah...Huhuhu
But you still can use their credit card here. Credit card agents from Citibank are pretty much everywhere in the shopping malls.

I dont know about Singapore , but for the US you dont need all that documentation , infact they just send you the cards to your mail , I have 2 cards that way.

Yes. It is true that in the US, you do not need to submit any documentations at all when applying for a credit card. This is because when you sign the application form, you consent them to check your credit history at the credit bureaus and your present and past employment details.

Anyway, do you have a SSN ? All the banks in America require you to enter your SSN so they can check everything about you or else there is no chance of your credit card application to be approved at all. You must also have a prior credit history in US.

QUOTE(Nezloais @ Aug 2 2010, 03:18 AM)
I understand catching alien defaulters is a headache , but the banks should take into consideration the amount of time you have spend in the country and look into your banking history before making a decision.
Spending years in the country doesn't make you a creditable person. Not in Malaysia and not in USA. For Malaysian applicants, they will definitely look into your banking history but you will first have to meet the minimum salary as required by the bank. You see ? It is not that much difference for Malaysians too.

QUOTE(Nezloais @ Aug 2 2010, 03:18 AM)
Unlike that B!tch rep (citibank) on the phone who hears the word alien , and starts spitting numbers out.
The B!tch, or whatever you like to call her is just a worker and she simply told you the requirements set by Citibank Malaysia. She is in no authority to alter the rules.

hi guys, i just apply my hsbc cc last monday.
normally how long it takes to approve or reject? if reject did they call up?

Normally they will not call you when your application has been rejected. And it usually takes 2 - 3 weeks for HSBC to review your card application.

QUOTE(LOOOOOOL @ Aug 2 2010, 11:47 AM)
and can i apply another type of card at hsbc if they reject my first card??
No. I am however not sure it is the same with HSBC Amanah. No harm trying though.

1) I doubt bank allows u to cancel the credit card when u have outstanding balance. And there is no banks offering such service. They are there to make profit from finance charges. (May be AKPK can help u if u wanted)
No. One still can cancel the card even if he/she still has outstanding on the card. He/she just has to pay all the outstanding in lump sum.

QUOTE(powind @ Aug 2 2010, 03:46 PM)
I heard that government want to charge RM50 fee for credit card instead of RM50 fee from the bank. So, RM50 + RM50 = RM100 per credit card a year. Is it true? Please confirm.
What are you talking about ? The current RM50 we are now paying is going to LHDN (aka government). The bank is just the middle man.

QUOTE(Nezloais @ Aug 2 2010, 07:20 PM)
Taking into account the scores of aliens here in KL , you would imagine the banks to be a little bit more considerate when asking for a requirement , I understand if local banks have stringent requirements , but why do overseas banks have them ? Being in this country alien banks should understand the pay scales of people , and then setup requirements accordingly.

Dont get me wrong , there are some considerate banks here too , but the overseas banks are the worst to deal with. Alien banks should have more understanding for the aliens here in kl , whose numbers I might add as I mentioned before is extremely high ?
Local banks aim for the mass banking market while foreign banks with significant market share aim mostly at those high income earners. This scenario is not only unique in Malaysia but also in many other countries.

QUOTE(Nezloais @ Aug 2 2010, 07:20 PM)
Dont believe me , stroll down bangsar , or how about mont kiara a whole community made specifically for aliens , do you think all of them make 100k? OFcourse not !
But still, many of the expatriates living in those areas are high income earners.

So, how much i need to pay altogether to apply a credit card annually?
RM50 only. For supplementary card it is RM25 per supplementary card. If you have not sub your credit card to anyone then you'd have to pay only RM50. Don't have to worry about the annual fee as i am sure it'll be quite easy to get it waived (assume yours is not a free for life one).

2. You work there  - Request to your company you need to to get a ssn for basic transactions (since every transaction is 50cent country needs ssn)

You don't have to request for it. When you get the US worker VISA, you'll also be issued a SSN.

Another possible way to obtain a SSN is to invest in USA. SSN can also be issued to non-resident aliens but you must have a good reason why do you need a SSN.

UOB - The Worst Bank - Incraese from 10K to 15k after 13 years of card member vmad.gif
I guess it differs on case by case basis. For someone that i know, it just so happens that UOB Bank has been the most generous bank to him to date. He started using a classic UOB Bank MasterCard in the late 90s and the credit line was only a few thousands Ringgit. Then the card was upgraded to a Gold card a few years later and UOB bank had also increase his credit line a few times. Just a few months ago, he received a new Preferred Platinum MasterCard and it comes with RM30k credit line. This is like 14x his monthly gross salary !!! But then, he never defaulted on his payment.

Public Bank Classic and Gold cards now spark a new design. Somehow the Classic cards look more like a Platinum card than the actual Platinum card rolleyes.gif

QUOTE(gorengnazi @ Aug 4 2010, 01:15 AM)
I have another odd question...

Lets say for example , MB issues me a credit card.

I use the credit card , but then I immediately make the payment within 4 to 5 days , making sure i dont pay any interest.

Will this make me a bad customer ?

No. Most credit card users do not pay all of their outstanding in a lump sum every month the statement comes. So basically it means anyone that pays in full every month, there is one less customer they have to worry about the possibility of their customers defaulting their payments.

Anyway, it is totally unnecessary to make the payment in the next few days right after you charged something into the card. Just make sure you pay before the due date and you won't be slapped with any interest at all.

QUOTE(gorengnazi @ Aug 4 2010, 01:15 AM)
If in the future I request for a CL UP , will they decline it?

If you request for higher credit line, you'll have to submit your proof of income. It is completely up to the bank whether or not they are comfortable to increase your credit line.

QUOTE(gorengnazi @ Aug 4 2010, 01:15 AM)
I understand the only way a bank profits from issuing a cc is if you also pay the interest,
No. The bank already earn a small commission from the retailer everything you use your card. In the United States, the commission earned is divided by three parties. The three parties are :
- the card issuing bank
- VISA International/MasterCard Worldwide/American Express
- the bank that process the payment (meaning the bank that owns the card processing terminal the retailer is using)

Not exactly sure how the commission is divided in Malaysia by i'd imagine it is more or less the same.

Izzit RM50 only? How bout the Goverment Service Tax fee RM50?
Altogether RM50 + RM50 = RM100 rite?
I just wan2 confirm.
No. As i told you earlier, the bank is the middle man. They are collecting the RM50 on the government's behalf. So it means you will only have to pay RM50 for each principal credit card you hold from each bank.

Hi, is it recommended to go for the Card Protection Plan RM98 per year for our credit card? For my previous cards, I never apply for it. If we did not buy the plan, are we going to bear every losses when our card was cloned etc?

I'm filling up new application form now, but couldn't decide whether to tick the Card Protection Plan section or not. sad.gif
No. As long as you find out your card has been compromised, inform your bank immediately. BNM clearly states that the card holder is liable up to a maximum of RM250 of fraudulent charges only.

am i a bad CC user since i always paid full amount a week before due date?

and is that also one of the reason why they didnt increase my CL anymore???
No. That doesn't make you a bad credit card user.

where did you get the "BNM clearly states that the card holder is liable up to a maximum of RM250 of fraudulent charges only." guideline?

i can't find anywhere on their site...and when i email them, they give something else = =...
There is actually and your bank normally won't tell you this. I forgot where it is already. Anyway, this was discussed here quite a few times already. Just not so long ago there was a lady who won the court case against a prominent bank in Malaysia and the judge ruled that she has to pay the bank only RM250.

when you applied, was your balance above 200k? because if it is, the hsbc premier mastercard is almost pre approved!
niel doesn't want the Premier MasterCard. He just wants a regular credit card but HSBC declined that request.

QUOTE(niel @ Aug 4 2010, 10:47 PM)
i'm really puzzled too, they can give me the blue card, but can't provide me with one conventional credit card. what gives?
nevermind, decided life goes on. so i walked to next door for Citigold with a premier miles card offered. wink.gif
What was the conventional credit card that you requested ? The VISA Platinum ? Because someone i know told his relationship manager that he doesn't want the Premier MasterCard and told HSBC to give him the VISA Platinum instead. His request was rejected too.

By the way, as for the card replacement fee. You can request them to waive it.

Chemistry thank you for you suggestion , Ok its true Im a total noob at this , The CC would be mostly for online transactions and for fuel and utilities , occasional meals in good restaurants with my clients and girlfriends.. but thats about it...
Go for a local bank's credit card. For instance, Maybank or CIMB Bank. CIMB Bank particularly has tons of promotion year-round. Get the CIMB Petronas MasterCard. This way you'll get 2% rebate on Petronas petrol purchases and 0.5% on all other transactions. This card will also entitle you to all the ongoing discounts.
