QUOTE(EggyTart @ Aug 28 2013, 12:43 PM) Hi, Under the awards and achievements part of your CV, is it advisable to top up your academic and sports achievements with medals from the e-sport arena such as DotA? My argument would be that it'll show that you are able to excel in both the academic and non academic field. Please advice. thanks. I think you should because it shows that you're good at something. To be good at anything, it takes a certain quality and you should mention in your cover letter that it has demonstrated your ability to strategize etc etc and know how to work in a team environment. IMO, this is a great selling point. If your interviewer is open minded and he/she is trying to find someone who has the quality to care and excel in something. This is a bonus for me.

Should certificates of participation / certificates of achievements be included in the CV of a fresh graduate (no working experience)?
For example: certificate of participation in leadership conference, certificate of volunteering, certificate for winning a sport competition, etc.

Thanks for the input. Most of the advice that I got before this was to leave it out altogether. This is a first.

Is it recommended to apply for jobs directly through Jobstreet? The reason I'm asking is because there is no where for me to put in my cover letter except for the 300 character pitch which is hardly enough to write anything meaningful as a fresh grad.
I do not know how much employers here care about cover letters or how much they value using Jobstreet's systems to screen potential employees.
Besides that, there is no direct way to send a different resume depending on the job I'm applying to.

Besides that, there is no direct way to send a different resume depending on the job I'm applying to. Try to apply both directly and via jobstreet. I have received quite a number of interview invitation via Jobstreet. The best would be to email to HR personnel directly, instead of going through the general email. Cover letter plays a less significant role in Jobstreet nonetheless.

Never attach your relevant certificates together with your resume, unless u were told to do so. This post has been edited by FortNil: Sep 27 2013, 07:07 AM

"Some career experts tell you that you should never ever put your photo on resume. And some prominent columnist wrote last year that, if you use a photo, you'll come across as "naive and unprofessional. "
is it true ?

But having been in the working world, a lot of local companies will ask for photos. Managers will pay special attention to photos.... so.... But if you don't want to be selected or not selected for interview because of your photo then don't attach it unless you are asked to. You can't stop ppl from discriminating candidates based on looks because eventually you'll have to attend an interview.

A resume is like a cv, but a cv is a more detailed version. So, I think you mistook "cover letter" for "cv". A cover letter is a way for you to introduce yourself, and states why you want to work with the company/ are a good choice for them.
Cover letters are at max one page long and can usually be attached in online applications together with your resume.
But in your case, if you are applying through a specified company email, attach your resume, and in the body of the email, write a very brief cover letter, shorter than a normal cover letter. Google examples online for an idea of how long yours should be, but don't copy paste an online format! Recruiters can tell the difference. Write it in your own words
