QUOTE(latias93 @ Feb 24 2012, 02:52 PM)
Hey guys, I'm looking into buying a used BMW here in the States (studying here).

Within the BMW brand, I'm thinking about either a..

1) '0x BMW Z3 Roadster
2) '9x BMW 328ci E36 Convertible
3) '0x BMW 325ci E46 Coupe/Convertible

I'm just having a little hard time trying to decide between cars. Hopefully you guys can help me decide. All used cars in USA have similar mileage (1xxk miles) and alls the cars I am looking at have good maintenance records.

Do you guys know how much will maintaining each of these cars cost? If any of the models I've listed have known shortcomings or anything? Just give you guys opinions on this car.  laugh.gif
*
I suggest you go for the e46 325ci, its running the m54b25 engine right?

That engine is pretty easy to maintain and is pretty reliable thumbup.gif

not to mention the e46 coupe is a brilliant looking car biggrin.gif

Maintenance costs i'm not sure, it might be cheaper in the states than here? hmm.gif

QUOTE(latias93 @ Feb 24 2012, 03:22 PM)
Yup, it's running on M54B25 (some 325ci models have M56B25 though).

That's what I was wondering.. I've always been attracted to the E46's sleek design (compared to the E36.. in which it has squared shapes all over!). Now I have the chance to own it, but I don't want to have a car that will give me a hassle as I am a college student.

Maintenance costs might be cheaper.. I'm not sure. But all used cars here have shockingly high odometer readings (on average, 125k miles) which goes to about 200k km. Doesn't matter if it's a '92 Mazda MX-5 Miata, or a '06 BMW 328i E90 sedan, pretty much all used cars here have similar mileage due to USA being a big country and they usually drive far to work daily. Anyway, at such a high mileage, surely some parts in the car will give way soon.. honest sellers will list recent maintenance records in their ads. While the others.. well I don't want to drive a car off a used car lot and find out I have to change the timing belt.  sweat.gif
*
well then i suggest you try finding one with a full service record, and if possible bring a mechanic to inspect the car.

well with all used cars, you have the risk of getting one which wasn't taken care off. So just be careful and hope you find a good one.

btw you might want to get one with a manual gearbox as the steptronic/auto ones aren't really reliable and the price to change em when they go here in msia is like rm8k sweat.gif i don't know about the states though.

btw to me mileage doesn't really matter if its "highway miles" my 5iver has done 260,000km mostly highway and its still running well, while you can see other 5ivers with only 50,000km which are in terrible condition cause they spend most of their life on terrible roads and the fact that they are malaysian units laugh.gif

MAY I KNOW UR BMW U BOUGHT IT SECOND HAND OR BRAND NEW?

no sales unsure.gif

most cars which have done over 100,000km and are not maintained will have problems. If you take care of your car it should be fine.

no problems

Nice modification bro.
My 523i E39 still stock and baru 140k mileage, just did some modification last year. Changed the exhaust to ac schnitzer and chipped the car.

By the way, anyone here recommend to install ESS Supercharger for BMW? Got any shop in KL selling ESS Supecharger?  unsure.gif

If got anyone installed ESS Supercharger for their BMW, please share your experience with me please.

Thanks
*
i enquired about ESS, it apparently costs like 18k. You can try asking on bmwforums.

But there are risks of supercharging. Gearbox and remember you have to maintain the supercharger sweat.gif

hey, yes the rims are still available

they are 18inch, condition now i would rate it would be 7/10 as they have few scrapes here and there but if the buyer wishes they can be restored to new condition with just a additional sum blush.gif

just test driven a 330Ci earlier today. will be submitting my docs for loan approval coming Monday. fingers-crossed this gonna be my first German marque. smile.gif it was love at first sight when i saw the ad while hunting for a second car. was torn between the pre-2005 Volvo S60, C200K and the 325i earlier. but it was a clear decision once i feel the car after the teat drive. awesome piece of German engineering even for a 10 year old car.
*
Great choice, a e46 330ci. Even for its age, its still a pretty fast car.

assuming it has the m54b30 engine? brows.gif 235hp and 300nm of torque wub.gif
