Im having a 2 months alaskan malamute. Didn't know which brand to choose.

Few I have in mind is Orijen puppy large(38% protein), TOTW puppy(28% protein), Zignature turkey(33% protein).

First two name itself stated for puppy but there is quite a big difference in protein. The third which which my friend said is for dog of all age and the protein is just right in the middle of the above two.

Anyone can shed some light on protein content and also which brand is good for alaskan malamute?

Any other info is highly appreciated. Thanks !

hi guys,

Looking for Acana Pacifica 13kg. Do you guys know where I can get it at a reasonable price?

I used to get it from an area around ampang where there are 2 pet shops opposite each other. I bought 13kg, and they helped to repack and seal it to 1kg pack each to preserve the freshness. Now I totally forgot where is the shop sad.gif

From what i have read before, it is not recommended to feed large breed pups with too high protein content diet... High protein diet would encourage growth spurts which is what we want to avoid in large breeds as they are more prone to hip dysplasia...
Also if your dog does not do daily vigorous or high energy activities, its not recommended to gv high protein diet as they wont need to burn that much of calories, some dogs may end up having skin problems due to too much protein...
Usually protein content btwn 21-28% should be sufficient for regular activity dog...
Hope this helps u... smile.gif

I think you should definitely give Orijen a try. It is the best dog food I tried so far. That being said, the price is rather on the high side as well. What you pay is what you get. If your pup has a strong immune, it could actually save you the potential medical cost. : )

I agree with u.

A lot of ppl have this misconception about high protein diet in dog, told by some vet and some pet shop, which is very misleading. Protein content, as with carb content and fat content, it all depends on quantity u feed, quality of the ingredient, and source of those nutrient. For example, a gram of egg protein and a gram of soy protein give different effect to our dogs. Animal protein, which appear to be more digestible compare to plant protein for dog, should be the main source of protein in dog food. Taking low digestible protein will not only upset the pets stomach, but strained the kidney and liver. That's y people say high protein food is bad. What they actually mean is, high % of low digestible protein is bad.

Another thing is weight gaining and extra energy. Comon', if u think ur dog becoming too big and fat, u are feeding too much! Not every single dog food are the same, and the amount have to be adjusted according to your dog. If they eat more than they need, problem come. This is much a calories problem in stead the protein problem.Control the amount u feed to your pets, this is crucial, and get a high protein food that make with major meat protein, not plant protein. U eat too much, u become too fat. All sort of food. Food with low protein and low meat tend to have more carb. True, your dog won't be that muscular on low protein diet, but with excess feeding, he will grow FAT. This do not only stress the hip, but it make your dog more prone to diabetes, High blood pressure, heart disease and cancer.

My advice is, get the best food that u can afford. Look at the quality of material, % of the meat, and the review other gave, take care also of the frequency of recall of the dog food. For me, orijen is by far one of the best dog food that I can find in the market. Other include farmina N&D, Merrick, and the cheaper one, arcana grain free. Of course, there are others too, but I have yet to review all of them. Hopefully one day I could.

my mom bought a dog food from econsave.

Do you think it is good? I can't even find the ingredients on it...

no... commercial dog food might kill your dog due to too much carbohydrate and sodium in it...

well, for feeding the raw diet, you have to deworm monthly.

if you are trying on natural raw food... then you got to freeze the raw food until you defrost and feed them... if you want convenience way, try Barf raw food. it comes with Fish, Lamb and Chicken.
