Which better depand on what u want. Redang got more choices of resorts, more tourists but some part of the beach dirty coz many tourists each year and many coral sites full of ppl. Perhentian not so many tourist. More peaceful. But in the early days there was no rule to protect the coral, sea life so many tourists took them back home as souvenirs.

if you can afford it...then go to Berjaya Redang Resort...

I would say Perhentian is more of a scuba diving paradise ... If you're into Scuba diving, Perhentian is a good choice (and cheaper too, but it's not that happening compared to Redang) ...

I paid around RM600 (everything included like air fare, boat and snorkling) to spend a 3 days 2 night holiday in Berjaya ... It's really a very enjoyable trip as the beach is so clean and quiet and they have lots of foreign visitors at Berjaya Redang ...

If you prefer a quiet and tranquil beach, opt for Berjaya Redang ... It's a private beach after all

I would prefer Perhentian than redang....I have been there in August 05.I've stay at Tunabay resort which cost me around Rm 320 for 2 night included breakfast n dinner.Tunabay have private beach and peacefull place and no dirty.And the people there is not crowd like redang.

Same as geminist suggest, Berjaya redang is also comfortables places to hanging around.

Not really that private if you know how to get to it There is a jungle trail from the main beach to berjaya's beach.. takes like 40 mins if i remember. You can stay in a cheapo chalet and hang out at berjaya 

Many says that perhentian's resort are better n cheaper.....mean while redang's scenery n snorkeling is better wo....
Got a fren told me that, the best combination is to stay in perhentian n go to redang for activities.....is it possible..?

I've been to Pulau Lang Tengah, which is like a stone throw away, and that took me an hour plus to go to Redang! 

I would say Perhentian's snorkeling/scuba diving is better as this is what Perhentian Island is famous for ....

It's rather costly sometimes to travel between back and forth actually ...

Personally for me, the purpose for me to visit a beach is to sit by the sandy beach and read some books, take a couple of drinks and sleep ...

actually i have been to perhentian, redang, kapas and rhu. personally i think redang is packed.. too many resorts, it depends on what u want la.. if u are city dwellers then it is suitable.. coz lots of ppl and lots of smoke too..

perhentian is slower.. that also depend on which side of perhentian u are staying..

if u arent choosy, rhu is also nice. specialty is that this island is new, and only got one resort. accommodation is nothing fancy. basic facilities and u can see giant clamps.

lang tengah.. i have never been but usually i would reccommend my clients to stay at lang tengah and make a day visit to redang marine park. like this u can gain both benefits.

Berjaya Redang? If you're a golfer. U get to play golf, need to get on a 4X4 to go to the beach. (other resorts walking distance) also the "private beach" of Berjaya, very near a floating fishing village. they put polls and build houses high up the water. Their toilet can play bombing game into the water. But don't worry, that was last time. Berjaya manage to move them in-land.     This year price will be cheaper in all resorts.

if u go perhentian hor... join BUBU LONG BEACh resort..
i got nothing to do with them... just that i went there n it was the best hotel on the island with goood food n excellent service!

laguna redang is company name la....such as berjaya redang.it's resort is beside the house in film that call "more more tea" staring by richie ren and sammi. now the house become survinior shop.. 
i go there b4, quiet good resort. there are over 10 agency in kuala terengganu. some are large some are small.....

personally i been to redang and lang tengah only. base on this two places they have their pro's and cons. i went to redang on March last year and lang Tengah on June 06.

At redang i stayed at Redang Bay resort. Its ok with water and air-con. i paid for RM315 got a twin sharing went with 2 of me frens. its a 3d 2n package with snorkelling/3meals a day /bed and boat transfer. Well its cosy and u dont get tv. but what the hell u need tv fr when there is beach out there. i say that the beach coral life its better in redang when u got to the spot for example the small hill right at the edge of redang..nice..all i did there was snorkelling..and the fishies are abundant there are a couple of teenage sharks around..cool..
manage to snap some photos too. for Rm315 u get the normal stuff of coz there are cheaper packages maybe with out aircond or hot water..who need hot water in a hot weather btw?hehe..

lang tengah is a slightly diff exp. i went there to do my intro to diving. but i went snorkelling too. this place is nice but u need to go out when the tide is low..i manage to go about 200+ metres off the shore and spots alot of underwater fishies..warning!! that if u are not a profficient swimmer wear a life jacket...u do not want to tire urself and paddle ur self back..as for me i did the nemo in googles trick..haha..its cute and hard at first..the nice about this clown fishies is that they come out and "play" with u.. one advice those of u want to go out snorkelling..wear mask not googles that u go the public simming pool..and get fins..its very good for u to travel around in the water and save u alot of energy..

as for the place i stayed in Lang Tengah its was below moderate. its call redang lang. we have trouble gettin water thru the bathroom..so we ended up taking baths in outside toilet..sigh..the room were moderate too not as posh as the redang bay but we dont care coz after whole day of activities we end up sleepin on the sand also we dont care..haha so to say..but the lang tengah its kinda cheap.RM299 3d 2n.
\forgot bout food the normal fare like every chinese oriented family dish but its halal..sweet sour fish mixed vegetable with garlic, chicken with diff sauces..for dinners lunch its about the same almost forgot toofuu. breakfast 2 choices congee or wester bread and butter..free flow of coffee/milo/water

Berjaya Redang is nice because the beach is white and there is privacy as there are many people there. You can rent a boat(not from Berjaya as its expensive) to bring you to other places so snorkel. This can be negotiated with the boatman. Look out for signboards offering to bring u to other islands. The boatman brought me to the beach where Laguna is located but there is too many people there as there are a few resorts. Food is also expensive because at night the hotel's only food is buffet style rm48+. Try going to the stalls outside Berjaya Resort. Currenly there are more units being built. If its due for completion this year then its worth going cause everything is brand new. Book at MATTA fair if you intend to stay in Berjaya. For Redang 3D/2N and free one more night for RM 498 only with air flight. Meals not included.

Previous year I went to Lang Tengah. I prefer Lang Tengah more because the water is clearer. Stayed in Square Point. Everything is more reasonable there. I paid RM600+ or 700+ for the 3D/2N package inclusive of meals and air ticket. Its not too commercialized yet. The meals was quite okay. And there was a boat that brought us to Redang Marine Park. So hard to snorkel at the Marine Park as there are too many people. We also snorkel ourselves at the beach there. Book this package through Ping Anchorage. Price difference book during MATTA fair and not was only around RM20. Probably in March plenty of travel agents will start advertising trips to Redang / Perhentian and Lang Tengah.

why not u go to Arwana Perhentian Eco Resort & Beach Chalet. 4 stars beach resort with if im not mistaken biggest swimming pool on that perhentian besar island. Their services,facilities,price is nice.

I have slightly less experience for Perhentian but did visit the beautiful islands a few times (and planning for more visits in 2007!). Honestly, the beaches are less superb compared to Redang, but don't let that hold you back. Perhentians are very nice. See the beach photos below from various sites in Perhentian that I took:

As for the resorts, less international-class establishments in Perhentian, as compared to Redang. Perhentians are more for kampong-style experience, really. Quite nice also lah. Some resort photos:

I guess not much from Perhentian for time being. Wait next year. Here I come!

Just to share some of the traveling tips to Perhentian via KB airport:

1) Fixed taxi rate has increased. Now at RM78!!    You can get taxi sapu outside the terminal however no matter how good is your negotiation skill..They still won't reduced to <RM50...The best still RM60 to K. Besut.

2) Cheaper option is to take bus from outside the airport to KB & thereafter another bus from KB bus terminal (Near Pasar Siti Khadijah) to K Besut (I'm not sure about this..due to time constraint, we decided on taxi).

3) On the way back from K Besut, we wanted to try the bus but too bad, we are abit late.. The bus jus left! So we hard nego wth the taxis at the bus station & none of them wanted anything less than RM50...After 15min without getting any responses, we decided to ask another coupl;e to share the taxi..& they agreed..so 5 of us in a super slow spoilt air-con taxi to KB....RM10/pax ..not bad although slow..we reached KB bus terminal ~1.15hr later...So those thinking of budget traveling..try sharing taxi cost...RM50 to KB or even to the airport
(We decided on KB bcos, I hv not visisted KB b4 & wanted to see Pasar Siti Khadihah up close....yes it's big...& mostly ladies sellers..but nothiong much to buy there..unless those batik luvers. at 2nd floor)..

4) Food pricing in Perhentian - RM7/plate of nasi goreng / mee goreng is a standard..certain beach warong even charging RM8/plate! ..Seafood dinner is reasonable but very small portion..I deep fried sweet sour baraccuda cost RM12, Sambal sotong -RM10 (Huge portion) & mixed vege curry (yummy) at RM6..Very yummy food at Abdul.

5) Snorkeling gear is cheaper in Perhentian compare to Redang/Lang Tengah...Renting of mask only cost us RM5/day and if u buy snorkeling tour to 4 locations, it cost only RM30 which include snorkeling gears  Sumore children below 12 is FREE!!    ...What a bargain...

6) At Pasar Siti Khadijah food court (Laman Siti Kadijah -in between Buloh Kubu bazaar & the pasar)...Food is tasty but it's not cheap. Our late lunch there cost RM17 for a mee ratna, Tomyum beehun & kueh teow goreng...who say small town food is cheap  ..proably we kena slaughtered?
7) On the way back to airport, we again got the kereta sapu..negotiated the kancil from Rm15 to RM12 to airport from Pasar Siti khadijah...According to the driver, normal taxi rate is at RM25 from KB to airport..What he offer me Rm12 is super cheap..wll..I'm not sure about this...but happy wth the taxi rate from K Besut to KB & thereafter bck to airport....The rate from Airport to K Besut is definetly OVERPRICED!!...Authority aught to look into this matter!

Honestly, I think Redang has the best beach(es) in Malaysia. No joke. I always enjoy its crystal-clear water surrounding the island. But really, not all beaches are created equal. Some just as murky green like Port Klang (but not much la), and others are world-class. See my photos below:

I just back from redang. It is indeed a nice place to go snorkelling or diving.� 

For those who are planing to go for snorkelling, please remember that you can help protecting coral reefs by following these simple rules:

1. Don't touch corals - No stepping/walk/stand/sit/have any body contact with corals, as corals are living animals and are EASILY damaged even by mere touch.

p/s: I am amazed by the fact that the guide brought us out for snorkelling didn't warn us about this.� � I have to tell my friends and explain to them.

2. Take all your rubbish back to shore - Plastic bags are lethal as they might wrap around coral.

3. Avoid kicking up sand - It will damage corals and other reef organisms.

For more information, you all can "google" information such as "protecting corals".

Besides that, I find that it is interesting to read and know the types of coral reefs before going for snorkelling. It is much more fun by knowing the name of the coral and even the fish u see when snorkelling.�

-snorkeling trips, they'll bring but most probably would not take care of you, as in making sure everyone goes down to the water. some tourists have the fear of getting down into the water. so resort operators might not spend time teachng you water confidence

Its Pulau Bidong. I called it The Ghost Island or Mini Saigon. My family got a beach house at terengganu facing Bidong and Redang Island and i used to work at a small resort at Redang Island for 1 year (and everytime i go redang island im still amaze at the beauty)

Bidong Island was gazzeted in the 80's as the Vietnamese Refugee Center (before they were moved to Sungai Besi Camp) They practically built a whole village there, complete with church, court and comunity center. They built a lot of statues on the island. One of the famous statue is a statue of a father dragging her daugther after their boat sunk not far from the island and also a statue of Kuan Yin Goddess facing the sea.

All of the refugess was taken out from the island in the end of 90 if im not mistaken. Now it is a deserted island but all the buildings are still there. So it is like the deserted cowboy town u see in the movies. I went to the island twice and its very creepy when you enter the village but no one is there. They even got a grave there.

Every year all those refugee and their family will return to the island to pray. Usually a travel agency called Pinganchorage will organize the trip. You can only go to Bidong Island if you have permission by the local govt but some of the resort at Redang do organize a day trip to go there. It's only 10-15 minutes by boat from Redang to Bidong. The corals there are mostly damaged by the refugees so nothing much to see except history of the bidong island.

wow..hehe i get a bit excited... hope it is a good education for you guys! you can google for "boat people" to learn more about the vietnamese refugee..trust me its a worth reading... a lot of sad stories about them.
