Can they eat meat, i thought Tortoise was herbivore (Sorry, i'm not the expertise when talking about Tortoise, just try to help my friend out).

Can i add the Exo-Terra's Calcium+D3 & Multi-Vitamin powder to their food?

QUOTE(http://redfoottortoise.com/index.htm)
In the wild Redfoot Tortoises are found in a variety of environments from dry grasslands to humid forests. There seems to some disagreement as to which habitat they prefer. However mine seem to prefer more shady wet areas. In the summer they seem to be happiest submerged in a mud puddle. They are most active during and after a rainstorm. This often stimulates breeding.

Redfoot Tortoises are primarily herbivorous, though they are known to eat carrion as well as any bug they can catch. Here I have seen them devour slugs, worms and pill bugs.

Above link from http://turtlerescues.com/care_sheets.htm under Care sheet , look up red footed !!

------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Tropics sp get more chance to encounter carrion and bugs in the wild so feeding them similar in captive wont do much harm (I think ) !!

BABY STAR CAN ADAPT TO OUR OUTSIDE ENVIRONMENT WITH PROPER SHADING AND SO ON? EVEN DURING RAINY DAYS???
*
Not now but can be " trained" over the years to be used to our humid condition YES !!

Even adult can get used to it and stayed outdoors 24/7 most of the time with proper shading and maybe a heat source (especially during prolong raining non-stop for a few days ) when the ground dont get a chance to become dry !!

He is?! It's like saying "God is with you! Godspeed!" LOL!

Anyway, I was just wondering because a friend from Indonesia is breeding them like nobody's business...from sulcatas to even malayemys subtrijugas. One species after another! While over here, macam nak mampus sial nak breed. I think I need to drop by and have a look on how they do it la. Macam senang gila jer...

Added on October 28, 2010, 1:29 pmAnother thing is that I was asking about turtles and not tortoises smile.gif
*
I prefer tortoise over turtle breeding/ venture due to water management ....etc
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Sulcata ?? How hard is that sp ?

Now my 6 year old son is in-charge of his "sulcata big brother" (Male is 7+ yrs bought as hatchling) and his wife (bought as WC adult @15" June 2008 )
This pair lives at home !!
1st clutch somewhere December 2009 - 30/?? eggs (never found the nest only found 30 hatchlings when they hatch )
2nd clutch March 2010 - 18/21 eggs
3rd clutch September 2010 - ??/31 eggs

I believe the Female is from a huge Sulcata shipment sometime back in April or May 2008 Paid RM 5xxx for her to pair up with my lone Male sulcata

Noted! I stated hard because the one who has been trying stated as such (ie very hard). Personally I haven't tried breeding them myself. Don't intend too though due to their size (big) and status (CITES).

By the way, at what size you breed your cherries? I am not sure whether it's me or the tortoises but quite a number of mine are slowing down in their growth, eventhough they have been feeding like pigs.
*
Cherries - mine the Males started humping when about 5 inches One of the Female started laying tiny eggs at about 7 inch and viable before she reaches 8 inch (I think not 100% sure )
Now at about 10.5 inches she(that paticular F laid first and my biggest ) average 3 clutch of 6-8 eggs each per season (at least from 2009 till now )
-------------------------------------------------------------
But my first batch of cherries bought as uneven carapace 3 inchers they could be older than their actual size !!

Why your friend say Sulcata is hard to breed ?? But our "Fatboy" is saying the same he got a pair larger than mine around end 2008 or early 2009 (you seen them ? these 2 free roaming in his yard ) Humping and eating every so often , just no eggs !!

I see him always. He is still the same as before. Well maybe a little more hornier. Will try and drop by to his place again this November if I have the time.

P.s. Have you been to his new place where he keeps most of his animals? If not, then I think you should because it's freaking cool!
*
That orchard of his ?? I really like his water source but hate the deep slope LOL But sure cool no doubt !!

Are those Stars, Ynis, Elong and Manourias? Which is which I don't know. They all look the same i.e. like pingpong balls LOL!

When you want to start producing morphs? Albino, hypos and axanthic cherries are already in the market leh. Don't forget the albino, hypos and ivory sulcatas. Go get them smile.gif
*
S=Sulcata
Y=Yni
Elo=Elongata
unmark = Not Manouria !!

Cherries morph working on them - soon to arrive !!

Ivory and Albino Sulcata already part of the clan just not breedable yet but soon !!

Got a hypo of some sort of M.emys emys now working on it (almost adult M ) need proofing if non-visual produced at laid (will take bloody long time for that ) !!

Yes, I saw them before. That time, they have already "kempis" abit. Hopefully they don't "kempis" more LOL!

Added on November 2, 2010, 12:15 pmBy the way Sam, the specimen in your avatar is Malaysian or Indonesian? You will be producing homos or hets soon? Let me know. Thanks

Added on November 2, 2010, 12:20 pmAnd the word "homos" is short for homozygous. Not homosexual. Don't try to be funny Camil...wink.gif hahahaha
*
[attachmentid=1864551]

Did they "kempis " more ? Got them for about 6 mths now !! The other 3 are some of last year's last clutch , the Sulcata are trade-back after owner abuse them with wrong diet !!

As for my avatar - Its Sarawakian Malaysian to be exact and they have laid eggs So should be getting both Homos and Hets soon !!

Eggs from Albino mom - 7 eggs from 3 clutch
Eggs from wild form Mom - xx eggs from 30 clutch
