@radius

Yeah sorry I didn't have enough time to set up your VDSL modem the other day.. anyway I just got full access to the Fiberhome, looks like it may be possible to bridge VLAN 500 to a physical port on the Fiberhome, bypassing the need for the dir-615 completely lulz

Lol its pretty complicated :S No GUI like the VDSL modem.. I can see some serial + password + voice codec here, might all be for VOIP. Don't want to break anything haha smile.gif

Lol after some testing, I think the fiberhome cannot be used without a vlan bridge. It has the ability to untag VLAN traffic, but it cannot re-tag the traffic going back to the PPP auth server. I could receive traffic that was untagged by the Fiberhome but couldn't send anything back because of this sad.gif

I also found a new DoS exploit on the Fiberhome's private network itself.. security is honestly not TMs field ._.

What do you mean by its not committing the settings, is it like.. once you put the ID in the tagged field and save it, you don't see the eth0.500 in the WAN interface options?

After you save it you might have to restart the modem.. if the tag setting is still there after a restart but its not in the WAN interface list, then there's a problem. But you normally have to restart it after saving the tag cause it wont update the WAN interface list unless you do that.

It should be like that. Note that my WAN interface is vlan2, yours might be eth0 or something. If you have a secondary VLAN page with 4 ports and lots of tick boxes ( http://h.imagehost.org/0308/ddwer2.png ), you normally dont have to touch this at all.

---

TM just came bout 3 mins ago, got my replacement dir-615. They gave me someone elses old router though, his user/pass is still inside lul

UPDATE : Okay guys, its 100% confirmed you can use any router you want by configuring the dir-615 as a vlan bridge using the secondary admin account. No need to source for dd-wrt routers or vlan capable switches/routers anymore, dir-615 will perform the physical-VLAN bridge and you can have your IPTV + any brand router! I will write a configuration guide later, its a little tricky but any novice will be able to pull it off within 5-10 mins smile.gif

There is but most of you wont opt for it, lol. Best to just use it as a VLAN bridge, you wont get a performance hit at all. Think of it as a dsl splitter or something smile.gif

how bot do you go ahead with that method?Even with the settings,it still doesnt want to connect

Give me a day or two, I just need to confirm the method of installation works smile.gif Earlier, I made 1 small mistake and had to reset the whole router.. figuring out the best configuration method for everyone. I'm a little confused at the moment, haven't slept today lol

I thought the dir-615 can break easily from overheating as mentioned in previous posts?
*
At least they give a replacement sad.gif And you need it for IPTV unless you want to invest a lot of money in better hardware, I think its a cost effective and simple solution for most people.. they just want to use their own routers which have better wifi + stability than the dir-615 in routing mode.

can i connect a better router to the Dir 615 so that my own router acts as a wireless switch? if I P2P which will be stressed? the Dir615 or my router?
*
If you just use the secondary router as a wireless switch/AP, the stress will still be on the DIR-615 as it's performing the network address translation and handling the PPPoE connection.

That is what i'm trying to avoid  rclxub.gif

Whats the point then of using own router. May as well get a switch  for local lan to lan traffic doh.gif But even that doesn't resolve the problem >-<;
@riv

I saw one of your possibilities was to use a vlan capable switch in this setup. Fiber modem > vlan switch >> your own router > your pc. Does this method work ??? I wouldn't mind investing in the hardware  hmm.gif
*
With the 2ndary account on the dir-615, you can use the dir-615 as a vlan switch ._.

There's 2 ways to use the dir-615 in your 'custom' setup.. one is to use it as a wireless AP/switch. This still uses the dir-615 as the router and doesn't take any load off it. It's also the easiest to setup.

The second way is what I tested and confirmed yesterday, which is using the dir-615 as a vlan switch/bridge. It will perform the VLAN tagging only (putting very little if not no load at all on the dir-615) and enable you to use any router you want with Unifi.

@rizvanrp: u flashed to DD-WRT? that means no IPTV? planning on getting, cos stupid streamyx dunno wtf happen until i capped at 50kb/s for one month now and no technician come fix...but on ur recent discovery on backdoor and stuff..and the potential cap implementation..i am still rather worried..and if using my own router means bye bye IPTV, that's also not an option for me
*
The 2nd method I mentioned uses stock TM firmware (with the backdoor account). That 2nd admin account lets you access the VLAN settings and configure your dir-615 stock firmware as a VLAN switch. You can use your own router + have IPTV.

means the dir-615 just act as a middleman from the fibre modem unit to my router, and my router is the one doing all the network address masking and data transmit work?
*
Yesh.

Hope the guide from rizvanrp is up soon. Really sucks using the DIR-615 instead of my WNDR3700. What a crappy decision!
*
Soon, I just finished writing two additional guides which are needed for setting the DIR-615 into bridge mode. Free tomorrow, so it will most likely be up by then biggrin.gif

Hey riz, I've also manage to find out the 'hidden' user. You can use the same user to ssh into the router. It's running Linux alright and yeah..max connection was set to 4096. I had to reset the router as I forgot what pass I set previously. By default on mine, the 3 remote management access was unticked. So lucky me..
*
Yeah I know, conntrack_max at 4096 and http webserver @ 15 sessions max.. still performs rather badly lol.. like I said initially, the SSHd daemon cannot be shut off from the GUI as far as I can tell so its still a security risk.. it's always running in the background and accessible from LAN. The SSHd option in the management page when enabled just allows WAN access on port 22.

First method of the custom router guide is up :

http://unifi.athena.my/ or http://athena.my/unifi ..

Check the 'Using Custom Routers' guide and the other guides too smile.gif

---

Just tested the first method using a fresh reset and it works fine.. I'll upload method 2 later which is the manual configuration process. You shouldn't need to do that unless you're not on firmware 7.05.

BTW, just so you know I 'tested' this setup just by plugging my Win 7 netbook directly into the DIR-615 and making a direct Unifi connection through it (Windows PPPoE dialer) without any form of VLAN tagging enabled.. so I assume it will work for your own routers too smile.gif I don't have an extra router to test it out with but since it does remove the need for VLAN 500 tagging, it should work (so please help me test it out ! tongue.gif ) Did not test IPTV but I didn't touch the IPTV settings at all so it should still work fine.

It would be a good addition to the guide if you can list down some recommended custom router that can be used....
*
As mentioned in the guide, any router that you can use with Streamyx is usable. It just cannot be an ADSL-only router (the kind with an inbuilt ADSL modem and RJ11 phone jack as the WAN port).

Add some google ads. Can generate some $$ to buy hardware to mess around with doh.gif

God knows they will update the firmware and we will need to come up with something to bypass their bullshit  shocking.gif
*
Lol, I want to keep it clean as a purely informative website (hence the clean and simple CMS layout). I'm not really finished with it, I have to add method 2 soon but I'm kinda tired at the moment.

Idk, I'm pretty comfortable with the DIR-615 acting as a vlan bridge.

According to networking experts, while this is possible, it is quite unlikely that a hacker would be successful.

TM said it is aware of the situation and is preparing an official response.

Some networking 'experts' lol.. They could have asked me how I hit 600 nodes in 4 seconds, simple nmap syn scan on Unifi range to reveal every open system. Oh well I suppose newspapers have to make things sound simple ._. TM may just patch this whole VLAN bridge thing soon, see what they have to say.
