no ssd yet...maybe a few months time...i don't think 512 would be enough for me...haha! but then again...i dont have enough money yet for the upgrade... i've bought a crumpler sleeve to carry my notebook around. still on the look out for a slim and light weight bag that will fit the notebook with the power brick and wires... too bad the thinktank is just a few cm short...would have been my first choice... smile.gif
*
yeah, 512GB might filled up on mine as well if I create multiple Virtual Machines. tongue.gif

My friend bought a samsonite sleeve for his Acer S3. Quite nice.

I'm using a backpack though.

guys,
quick question and opinion
came across one model SVE14A16FG
quite a good spec
core i7 3612,750gb,radeon 7670,1600 x 900 resolution
a friend of mine wanted to sell me at rm 2450..one week old
btw..vietnam unit...
is it worth it?
*
Should be worth it if you ask me.

The nearest spec compared to it in Malaysia is the SVE14A15FGB, which cost RM3,099 here in Malaysia.
http://www.sony.com.my/product/sve14a15fg

Difference between SVE14A15FGB and SVE14A16FG is the CPU(i7 3612QM vs i5 2450M) , HDD(750GB vs 640GB), and RAM (1600 vs 1333).
http://www.sony-mea.com/product/ComparePro...dels=SVE14A16FG

Means that the laptop your friend is selling is better than the one in Malaysia, while cheaper.

Not sure about the warranty though. hmm.gif

need help..try to goole around but still no solution

did clean installation of windows but the problem sometime when retart after vaio logo

*
You install it on Legacy Mode or UEFI Mode?

Have you check that in BIOS whether it's the right mode?

legacy...if under UEFI totally cannot boot
*
Hmmm.. it happened on mine once, but I'm on UEFI.
It cannot boot or detect the SSD. Thought my SSD already dead.
So, I just leave the laptop with the word 'operating system not found' for quite a while coz I was doing something.
I try reboot again, then it works. Until now, never face any issue when booting.

But yours a bit different, after restart couple of times then it works, but sometimes it happened again. Is that right?

Howbout a firmware update?

already on latest firmware..5.02
right now u are running on uefi  or legacy?

if i shutdown no issue...its only on restart
it look like ssd not ready
*
I'm running on uefi, migrated from the original HDD.

If you put back the original HDD, all is well back again is it?

Really not sure there, maybe you can try migrate everything from the original HDD, see if that work.
If it works, then its either your fresh installation went wrong, or you're missing some drivers, which i kind of doubt. hmm.gif

So, when you restart your laptop, did you try have a look at the BIOS whether it can see the SSD?

thanks..problem solved
put back original hdd
create recovery disc image (4 disc)
put back ssd and install from recovery image under uefi
no problem at all..running fine
the bad thing..the recovery disc created hidden recovery partition in the ssd about 16gb
ssd after boot up left 53gb free space only ohmy.gif
*
Good to know that. smile.gif

Since will only use once, you can try migrate using Paragon Drive Copy ehem ehem version. laugh.gif
I think you can select which partition and so on.
But you need an external SATA cable or enclosure to migrate to your SSD.
Process is very fast (USB3.0 + SSD = Super).

coming back to vaio after more than 4 years is quite a nice experience (my last vaio is tz series)
but too bad..sony still throw in the least capable gpu
comparing this lappy with my ex-y480 in term of gpu performance..so much different
NFS the run can only set at medium setting sad.gif
*
You mean that you sold your Y480 with GT650M, and bought this?
I thought you were buying it for someone else or bought it as an extra laptop.

but at 2350 (after hard nego),,couldnt resist this vaio..good screen 1600 x 900 and good keyboard
btw..seem cant find the modded radeon driver for 7670 vaio
*
That's a good deal for a 1 week old 1600x900 Sony Vaio.
I'm not sure about how good can the 7670 be MOD.
Have you tried OC? what's the highest you could go? 7690M level?

Vaio S is officially the worst laptop i have ever encountered, slow boot up, crazy noises, overheats like crazy, now my keyboard doesnt work, 3k++ all gone. Since the 1st day i bought it, it was even slower than my duo core desktop.

Im currently using an e-series i5 runs much effeciently and better than my crappy s series i7 which is only few months.

Any of u guys know any solution to fix the overheating, slow boot up and lag issues on my s series? oh yeah , I HAVE NOTHING INSTALLED ON MY WINDOWS 7, NOTHING! i have reformatted and use winxp still the same issue.
*
Wow.. really that bad?

Something must be wrong with your laptop. hmm.gif

Mine is totally the opposites.

Slow boot up? how many seconds?

Crazy noises? what kind of noise? during gaming? Idle?

Overheats? GPU? CPU? Keyboard? Palmrest?

Could be the cpu or gpu, im going to sony centre tomorrow to get it fix, the slow boot up comes with an idling as if it is processing something in the background.

Ive looked for solutions over the web , seems that many people are facing the same problem as i am.
*
Can you show me the link to the website discussing your issue?

wow... must be a lemon. mine got lots of software already installed... still stock hdd boots up at average 35 sec....  claim for warranty woh.

Yup, could probably be.

Just now, I've just played Max Payne 3. Awesome game.

I played on 1600x900 with everything set at max(including max tessellation, DX11, etc) except for MSAA(since I'm already on a high resolution on a 13' inch LCD), and it still plays fine! thumbup.gif

That's the previous model.
Also, that guy probably got a lemon.

Are you using the current Vaio S 2012?

Coz mine even on OC, still it manage the heat very well.

Review of the laptop :
http://www.notebookcheck.com/Test-Sony-Vai...ok.77244.0.html

Maybe you should send it for warranty or check.

Mine is 2011. Sent today to sony the curve, the lady gave me one look as if i stole the notebook, bloody racial profiling i tell you, she keep insisting me with the receipt and me handling the notebook to her when the website clearly states that it can be repaired once i registered throughout the net. Their SOP for repair and warranty suck balls. She wanted me to provide her my sony login id which i have not looked into for a decade. Went back home registered all my bloody sony products and playstation(which is a separate site) which is a flawed system because i can be buying my notebook 10 years ago and say that i bought it today.

Going back tomorrow or tuesday and see what happens.
*
Wah.. Quite a hassle there.. sweat.gif

I also don't know my ID.

Since you mentioned it, better get mine prepared too for the future.

So, without receipt can still send for warranty right?

Thanks for sharing. biggrin.gif

i got my SVS13116 last week. very happy with this laptop, very light and the battery can last quite long on stamina mode. the screen is good too, and is easy on the eyes for prolonged use. only down side is the speakers, very very tiny sounding, so need to use earphones or speakers for better audio experience.

got a free bag and the buffalo HDD, and 2 years warranty from sony centre @ KLCC. no discount though.
*
Got this from a forum, and it really works! nod.gif :

"Go to this site http://support.asus.com/download/download_...odel=M5A99X+EVO

Select windows 7 64bit, and then under audio there will be two driver downloads

Download the OLDER one that is dated "2011.01.07"

Extract it and run the asussetup.exe and just follow the onscren prompts.

You have to unistall the Dolby program and remember to raise the EQ levels..."

Now the speaker is much louder. thumbup.gif
