anyone here keep having wifi problem? == i think keep happen to me.. connected but server not found on mircob or firefox
*
Hmmmuh. I don't really use WIFI that much, as my laptop has been set to hog my home broadband with torrenting and downloads. The N900 stays in Packet Data mode most of the time. Plus the fact that the Battery Drain WIFI bug scares the shit out of me, and I reboot every time I get on and off WIFI.

On a side note, it has been 2 days of relative stability here in N900 land. No crashes, no mess ups, no lock ups, no nothing - stock kernel IS stable, I have to give it that. But it IS slow sometimes, especially with heavy multi tasking.

Next stop, Titan's Kernel and overclocking - let see how it would effect my N900.

UPDATE: It seems that Hildon-Desktop doesn't really play nice with QBW. Locked up today due to QBW, icons cannot be tapped (and has never happened before lol). Haish.

Will try tweaking some settings before I move to the next phase.

It can happen due to other app as well, sometimes probably cause by swap/virtual memory, but I don't think hildon-desktop and other core processes should be transfer to swap/virtual memory as it will cause real problem.

If you wait long enough, it might start responding again but the phone might be laggy or have performance issue, best to restart. I've also seen before 2 processes of hildon-desktop and hogging on memory and processing power. Manually killed it in HTOP.
Sometimes, hildon-desktop will reset itself as well, probably due to some widgets.
*
Surprise surprise, killing Hildon-Desktop HAS NEVER worked for me in solving these lockups. But just did a "killall hildon-home" and everything went back to normal, no lockup. Seem I've been killing the wrong guy.

Will now create a shortcut that does that and sticking it up in QuickLaunch, while reshuffling my menu through an .ini edit.

Hey just realized I'm not on the list of users. Aspire bro?

Currently messing around with Easy Deb OOOWriter for a better mobile word processing experience. Wondering how I can make it boot faster.

Hey guys how's your sliders holding up? Smooth? Tight? Loose? Mine feels a tad TOO smooth and has some play. Though I wouldn't call it loose.

Locks securely enough on the top end, though it doesn't take as much force to close or open as it used to. Reason to worry?

this guy GOT a point thumbup.gif

flash enabled fon not necessary u play games wif it

u use flash to open web pages instead icon_idea.gif
*
I block flash for webpages (with the adblock flashblocker css), it just slows down web loading and I can always click it if I wanna view it. That doesn't make MicroB any less useful for me though, 800x480 + loads of screen real estate + java script = win.

I'm for one agreeing on Crazy Steve on the flash issue. Flash is quickly becoming the annoying midi music of today.

QUOTE(evanttc @ May 13 2010, 09:49 AM)
last time OC to 800, without a reason, it will back to 600 in 1 month + time

now i using OC to 900, without a reason, it back to default again.

is it anyone facing the same problem like mine?
*
If you're using Titan's kernel, there's a built in anti-crash mechanisme. If you reboot too often quickly after booting up, the kernel recognises this and resets the config to stock standard. Let the thing run a while and then reboot, this should clear the problem.

Or did you not reset the default kernel OC settings? Check the kernel-power wiki at maemo.org for info.

QUOTE(ahtiven @ May 13 2010, 10:11 AM)
guys, i installed fMMS and then removed it however, in the connection tab it always automatically reverts back to use connection MMS instead of my Diginet which doesn't transfer any packet data at all.

i went to settings and the Delete is greyed out;which means i can't delete it. may i know why and how to remove this manually?

p/s: my wireless SSID however, is able to be removed though.
*
You didn't rewrite the default 3G packet data APN using fAPN by any chance, did you? Because IINM, that one CANNOT be deleted.

If you did, just delete the current 3G settings file you're using and rewrite the 3G settings manually for the undeletable APN.

QUOTE(kfthoo @ May 13 2010, 10:28 AM)
why play flash game while n900 can play pc games like doom, starcraft..warcraft...duke3d.... cool2.gif
*
And strain our eyes in the process lol. Though I have no qualms in running Q3/OpenArena on the N900, always good fun to frag idiots using the PC while playing from a freakin phone.

Plus I can't really run DXX-Rebirth, which pisses me off (Descent needs to run on ALL mobile platforms, screw Doom I always say!)

Seriously, people need to port more mobile friendly games and optimise them for the platform. OpenCiv comes to mind (already ported) but that one is crap unoptimised for the small screen. I mean, I squint and STILL have no idea what some of the text is saying. The OpenTTD devs had the right idea in allowing the use of half-resolution (400x220), might not look sharp but at least I know what's happening.

In this case, Maemo's relative obscurity makes it a problem. It's prolly just not economical to develop games for such a marginal platform, good enough as it is.

Though the promise of a maemo Homeworld port gives me the shivers, in a good way... drool.gif

Nah, majority won't choose to disable flash and would actually prefer to have Flash, hence why all the fuss with no Flash. It's a feature NICE TO HAVE. providing extra is not a bad thing, but not being able to provide IS a weakness. Giving excuses is far worst. Steve argument is not valid, he's simply denying or covering up his own weakness, having his way around with words that only his fans would believe.

Skyfire browser will provide Flash experience for Symbian and Android, and it's also coming to N900.

Flash 10 will be officially available for N900 and Android OS. Not able to provide flash is a weakness, don't blame Flash when it's not supported. For those who doesn't want Flash, can choose to turn it off, or just go mobile version webpage.
What about Theme Hospital?  rclxm9.gif
It's ported but the loading is super duper slow and not yet fully functional.
*
Points taken, though I still personally think flash, at least right now with no GPU acceleration is a tad bloated, especially for mobile applications. I don't mind tastefully made snippets of flash to enhance a website, but loads of it (aka the Celcom website) are just an eyesore. Call me a Web 2.0 die hard, but I'm more an AJAX guy.

Plus I'm the kinda guy who always has 5-6 tabs/windows open at one time, minimum, on a mobile device (30 on the desktop). So flash is an un-needed overhead in that kind of multi tasking environment, unless it's an integral part of the site.

And most mobile sites are SOOOOO stripped bare that there aren't even pictures, so that's a problem in itself... sweat.gif

But all in all, yeah. I digress. Flash capability turned off is in the end far better than no flash at all and loads of excuses.

But the "fans would believe part", well that is so true and so lol. After all, he did manage to sell loads of HUGE iPhones by calling it a tablet. It's Crazy Steve and his hordes of zombies after all.

Psst, can trade in a month old AP set for an ori set + top up? I'm starting to like the N900 wayyyy too much to depend on COMCAST ugh... COMSAT if something goes wrong.

Yep. It's even more prominent now that I've disabled blur completely for some speed increase (done through Transition Control).

Sigh someone said MKV works on N900 i even installed the extra decoder but it didnt work it said unsupported
*
MKV's just a container, it depends on what codec is used and the encoding settings.

Safe to say normal desktop level MKVs will surely fail sans remuxing.

I simply use the old mp4 settings from my old 5800 configs, easier. Though there should be detailed threads about optimum encoding settings over at maemo.org.

Either that or the N900 really doesn't have MKV support plugins for its gstreamer. My old Ubuntu box's gstreamer also phailed handling H264 MKV files, but that's a few long years ago and it was crappy hardware.

Download AVI files then, should play no problem straight off the torrent/DDL.

I think. Haven't tried playing my collection on the N900 yet, except the files off my old 5800/N97 mini memory card.

I've got Descent running on the N900, with bilinear filtering and all. Plus accelerometer control.

Makes Doom and Duke3d seem so... bi-dimensional... brows.gif

does memory leak will coz severe problem on n900 while playing descent?
*
Nope, just choppiness and lagging in-game. Close it, start it up again. Everything's fine... biggrin.gif

Going back to Titan's Kernel. Lets see if things get fudged up again.

And now with the new kernel-config app and it's support of direct xterm sudo commands, I can create shortcuts that actually allow my to change clock speed ranges on the fly, woohoo.

EDIT: Finally managed to do it. OC and Revert to normal shortcuts now on desktop. For the burst of speed when you really need it.

this n900 can poison anyone easily.. i just manage to poison my colleague the power of N900... hahahhahahah!

It's the raw pawa, what to do? But with the raw pawa is the come very danger (as my sifu used to say), as evidenced by many people bricking their N900s with installing stuff from devel (WARNING: devel is evil! :0 )

Plus the fact they have to learn to live with a landscape screen mini laptop with a phone strapped on (just like my old N-Gage was a crappy console with a phone glued to the side).

Hmm. I'm practically having fun every day tweaking some part of the N900. This is addictive, reminds me of the day I tweaked and tweaked and managed to make Compiz-Fusion run smoothly on Ubuntu and my EXTREMELY crappy Fujitsu laptop.

The smoothness of it then still smokes my Vista box today. And that's on a crappy video card that can barely play H264 mkvs.

Anyhows, the new kernel-config commands are schweet. Hope my N900 doesn't smoke itself to network death again this time. Running Titan's ULV profile. Staying clear of XLV and Starving after what happened the last time (though I'm not sure it's the kernel's fault to begin with).

As for Descent, it leaks memory and lags from time to time, but is otherwise great fun (fullscreen no cockpit mode decreases the ambience but makes sure I don't go blind squinting). Though I had to stop using bilinear and accelerometer controls just because they were screwing things up.

Oh, BTW, anybody here popped their USB port out yet? Seems like a serious issue over at Maemo.org.

Delish. Where do I place the map files?

Oh, and I just passed nerdgasm part 2, ACTUAL JAPANESE INPUT ON A PHONE YARRR.

Played around with Mscim, and traded in the ability to draw cute ASCII art and autocompletion for this... すばらしいのことだね。

Which would look like boxes to a third of the guys here (and REALLY tiny to another third) anyway. Please excuse the very, very crappy japanis.

Surprisingly, I sent a message to my GF using that to her old, archaic Nokia 1110 (either that or her SE K770), she could recieve the characters properly. Really magis. Didn't know feature phones were set up to recieve unicode?

Anyhow, the N900 has got some really nice Japanese fonts on it. Mmmm.
