I don't think anybody else here lifts more than 70lbs, let alone 90lb dumbbells lol.

70lbs is good. Go high reps for dumbbell exercises or you won't benefit. More than 10.
*
got it, will try 10 reps unsupported the next time i do chest. went 70 because i was pretty sure i could do 12 with 66lbs db's so i didnt want to waste a set

here's a question:
approximately how many exercises should i do for each bodypart? trying to create some new routines for arms/legs and maybe tweak a bit at shoulder/chest. looking at all your routines seems to have less exercises compared to mine but more sets per exercise. Please advice thanks!

6. Deadlifts are best done at the end of a back workout, because when you go as heavy as possible in this exercise, you're hitting the joints more than the muscles which defeats the purpose of hypertrophy. Dorian Yates has said so himself.
*
heh thanks for this, been trying to fit in deadlifts somewhere and i had absolutely no idea when to do it. btw, how many exercises per body part do you recommend doing per session?

essentially the same idea. they increase both anaerobic and aerobic pathways at the same time.

Tabata can be done with a variety of exercises front squat, thrusters, pullups, etc.

HIIT don't have to be the usual say 15 sec work, 45 sec recovery on the treadmill or rower or stepper or whatever. Go outdoors

For example I like to do these for HIIT instead
Results Circuit:
Complete as many circuits as you can in 10 minutes.
Prowler Push: 25 steps
Medicine Ball Slam: 10-20 reps
Kettlebell Swing: 10-20 reps
Hurdle Jump: 10-20 reps
Sledgehammer Smash On tires: 10-20 reps
*
woah, where do you get a prowler? your gym?

15 is good. I go 10 to 12 usually. And you're training too many muscle groups in a day. High volume split training la.
*
i go 10-12 too, with the occasional 6-8 tongue.gif. 15 a bit too high for me imo, i'll tend to blast through the first 6 reps or so. if its 10 reps then the timing becomes slower.

hey guys, got a question here. prolly gonna get flamed by you guys though so bear with me tongue.gif

Has anyone experienced phobia with big db's? Cos I recently started lifting the biggest sized db's in my gym and truth be told, I honestly psych myself out when holding them. Now, I'm VERY VERY sure I can lift 72 pounders myself, 3 weeks already for the record but I will still need to have a spotter or I wont even consider lifting them at all. If this keeps up I'm pretty sure my poundages would lag behind. Any way to fix this?

even myself i dont lift so heavy.
haha good job. i am still stuck with 20+kg for dumbell bench presses. haiz...
*

QUOTE(snowberry @ Jun 4 2010, 01:15 AM)

i think another problem is u will think.
how the heck am i getting this weight up.
need to really learn the way to bring up the heavy dumbell.
that really is a skill on its own. =.=
i am targeting 40kg db bench press by end of this year. hahhaa... long way to go. =.=
i think by that time darklight is benching 65-70kg db. hahahaha
*
thats the time i usually think nonsensical things, right before the lift lol. usually in the lines of:

"wtf am i doing?"

guess i need more positive reinforcement lol.

i'll try to answer a few of these:

QUOTE
wanna know, is it possible to bulk up in 6 months?
6 months i think is quite unrealistic. people bb for years to get their figure. its not a crash course, its a lifestyle change

QUOTE
my question is, is it possible to bulk up again but this time if i get proper assistance from a trainer. i plan to do it in 6 months. doable o not?
depends on your goal. dont expect too much imho

QUOTE
so kinda got the idea of trying back. but this time i wanna do it right. haha in terms of dicipline, no worries, i can put in the hours as long as i have proper guidance. i'm currently studying at sunway college and i saw some really buff guys and i kinda envy them. lol
BB isnt just about training hard. its equal parts of hard training, nutrition and resting. genetics play a huge role too

QUOTE
another questions, why do the people i see working out don't have proportionate bodies? i'm not sure if it's an asian thing or not, but i've seen alot of men with huge chest but small arm. or maybe huge bicept but disproportionately smaller shoulder? or sometimes huge arms but flat chest? i'm not talking about those profesional bodybuilders la, coz they memang have superb body dy. i mean those at gyms.
simple, you train hard on a particular body part and dont do the same intensity on other body parts that body part would be better compared to the rest. genetics play a role too.

QUOTE
why 6 months? coz my friend actually came up with the idea to record my progress in a documentary style thing. as a college project. he suggest that we get students from the medical, psychology, business and art faculty to join. why psychology, coz he wanna see what motivates people to push harder or train harder. alot of people stop half way due to many reason. he wants to see the role of a trainer not only as someone who guides but also someone who can offer mental support.

a trainer would only help you go the right way. its 90% your own effort imo.

QUOTE
lol that's why he came up with 6 months coz need a proper dateline. his idea is to get free trainer and membership from gyms for that 6 months. hence the need for business students to come up with a marketing plan.

he suggets that i be the subject for this project coz i used to do it the wrong way. he wanna see if proper help from profesionals can make any diference.
most personal trainers, if not all, earns only by commission based. good luck trying to get one for free though.. wink.gif

QUOTE
why documentary? he says he wanna promote healthy lifestyle among youth. or to inspire them that a nobody can actually achive what he wants if he has the right mental attitude. lol at least that's the reason he gave. i suspect he just wanna get free stuff. lol
why not ask him to join you? laugh.gif laugh.gif

QUOTE
don't flame me pls. i kinda noob in this area. so i jus wanna learn more about it.
read the stickies.

you having problem like mine also?

hee, i dont know whats ACL, but i busted both my knees from basketball during my younger days. To the point when I land down after a jump both my knees will get very sharp pains. Its better now, since I play at most once or twice a week, and run more than i jump wink.gif . Gymming definitely helps me fill up the void from bball.
