it all depend on what you shoot..if your shot a scene with lot of dark shadow you should use spot metering cause otherwise it will try to lift the shadow area...nikon and canon metering do it automatically but ep2 dont..so is whether you know your camera or not.

exposure also play an important role..try using a sony nex with f5.6 and olympus with f1.4 and see who got more noise..

so noise is not about sensor alone..a lot of ppl fail to see that..

i can generate lots of noise with sony a3xx series slr..why is that? camera no good? or sensor lousy? or donno how to expose properly..same like nikon d90..u think i cannot generate ugly noise out of it? yes i can..so does it mean d90 sensor also lousy? so it depend on how you use it..
*
bro, Sony A350 is CCD camera which is noisier than olympus cmos sensor... tongue.gif

Family picture, indoor picture, low-lighting = 20mm f/1.7 will do the job well
scenery, I think you should wide angle...

Wat is ur budget for second lens?

7-14mm f/4 is great wide angle lens...

I sold off my A300 with flash n lens, because i feel its not mobile enough for my travel, and sometimes asswipes would treat me as some paid cameraman during events and i don't like that.

I'm currently interested in m43 as the pic quality is good and it is compact enough for me to lug around.

What would be the best choice ?
*
Since you come from Sony, Olympus E-PL1 give you same in-body stabilizer. Its the cheapest and look like compact camera.
Another choice you have is Panasonic GF1 which most dSLR user will use because it seems the operation is faster. Go and
try both camera to see which one suits you more.

*
Just get the GF1 bundle with pancake.

For RM1500, you can think about 45-200mm

one question, is in body stabilizer really useful?
*
in body stabilizer stabilize any lens you put on. Meaning, u can buy old old lens that manual focus and
it still stabilized.

also, it will stabilizer Panasonic 20mm f/1.7.

Without body stabilizer, u need to have lens with optical stabilizer...

Example usage Panasonic 20mm f/1.7 is when in very dark place,
your shutter can go slow until 1/15 which will cause blurry photo...
but with in-body stabilizer, your photo will not be blurry anymore...

alright, thanks. one more thing, how bout the AF in ep2 after the firmware update? is it still that slow? and anyway, is there any rumours about ep-3? I kinda decided to get the ep-2 already but the thing is it has already came out for some time, I'm worried that new cam will come out after getting a ep2
*
there's new cam coming out every year..lol... you can always wait...you buy when you're ready smile.gif

AF in E-P1, E-P2, and E-PL1 all become better after firmware update. But you need to try it yourself if you think its slow or not.
No one can judge AF slowness because its really depend on that person. For me, AF is plenty fast. To some people, it is slow.
So, the best thing to do is to go to shop and try the AF yourself.... haha...

E-P2 is wonderful. And since you're already targeting it, the best thing to do now, go to shop tonight or tommorow since its
weekend already. Grab E-P1, E-P2, E-PL1, GF-1, etc, and try it yourself.... online reseaching should end now and you
should start with shop visit...kekeke..

I'm gonna get it tomorrow or coming wednesday I guess, kinda busy with my stuff lately. BTW, the lowest price I could get is RM3100, is there any cheaper price around ? and how do I check whether it is a new or used camera.
*
RM3100 is what package?

To check whether its new or used is quite tricky... the first thing I check is:
a) whether the box is still in nice condition. Hard to open the box is indication the box is seldom open up.

b) Plastic wrapping the lens and camera should not be crumpled that much. I'm not sure it is sealed or not. Probably
new buyer of Olympus can comment.

c) Turn on the camera, and see what is the file number after you took the first
picture. The seller might reset this, but its just another way to check...

d) check for scratches on the body and lens

e) take photo with aperture small small to see if got dust inside the sensor...

f) if the shop got a lot of stock, I'm more confident it is new. If left 1 only, might be demo set.

But really, when you see it, I'm sure you got hunch whether its new or old.

By the way, any new camera launch might be in Late September. So... just buy when u're ready.... you can read any rumour here:

About the rumour site, I hate going to rumour sites cause it'll somehow stop me from getting it cause there are always rumours about releasing new camera. LOL
*
Erm, hopefully anyone just bought E-P2 can tell you the price...

http://www.yamiya.com.my/store/product.php?productid=21996

Is your set same as this? Coz its the same price like what you got:
E-P2 + 14-42mm + EVF-2 = RM3142 free battery BLS-1 until 31 July 2010.

*
focus ring is on the lens... where you turn it to manual focus.. when turning, the camera LCD or EVF will automatically
zoom 7x or 10x so that you can manual focus easier.

happy GF1 owner here, just extend my warranty to 4years, 2years panasonic and another 2 years by shop warranty.

i'm new to this hobby, quite harder to me to play manual especially to set aperture, shutter, ISO and etc with manual settings.

hope can be advice with pro here.. ^^
*
congratulations!!!

Its easy as 1,2,3...

Aperture control 2 things. If you put Aperture big big, mean fnumber smaller like f/1.7:
1) the Depth of Field/bokeh - background blur become blurer
2) amount of light increase

ISO - increase light with ISO increase but noise increase too

Shutter increase
1) to capture high speed stuff
2) freeze stuff

Shutter slow
1) capture water flow
2) low light condition
3) more special effect

Important thing is, capture photo and let us comment.. rclxms.gif

does epl1 has nice menu and dial control like ricoh pro-level camera? what bout ep1?
*
If control, E-PL1 is not perfect. E-P1 have greater pro-level control. THe best thing is
u go to shop and try..... smile.gif

QUOTE(mersey96 @ Jul 3 2010, 01:59 AM)
well.. newbie gotta bear in mind..

stabilized doesn't mean no blurry picture at all... possibly just effective for 3-4 stops only

if u shoot at 1/15 and u have shaky hands, u'll still end up with blur picture even if u have in body stabilizer...

tried NEX5 with kit lens yesterday and I think I may have problem. Its between NEX5 (twinkit lens) or EPL-1 (twinkit lens)..

Help me out please!!!!
*
Its easy.. get the one you like...but....

E-PL1 is definitely good system. It's guaranteed to take nice picture.. and got FLASH!!!!!
NEX5 no flash built in.

If you want a simple system and can go to clubbing or eateries, u have flash built in to take nice and clear
photo!!!!!!!

E-PL1 ftw!!!!!!1

QUOTE
EPL-1 advantages over NEX:

Built-in flash
Flash hot shoe
Optional EVF
Plenty of buttons for key settings
More conventional user interface
Lots of customization options
In-camera raw conversion
Better legacy lens support (no loss of AF with Four Thirds adapter)
QUOTE(jacklsw86 @ Jul 4 2010, 03:08 PM)
i'm quite unclear about the problem you are facing. if you mean fixing m43 lens on NEX5, then it's a non-issue at all. NEX5 uses aps-c sensor system not micro 4/3, so it's incompatible with any m43 lens.
*
I think u misunderstand him..lolz...

QUOTE(davidmak @ Jul 5 2010, 09:11 AM)
True. I live in KL so lens stock is not an issue. However, pricing is hehehehe... Most shops quote me around RM15xx. m43 system is pretty pricey at the moment. Even the 14-150mm costs RM23xx.
I've tried the NEX-3 and NEX-5 over the weekend and this is my take on the system. I have no doubt the sensor can take pretty good pictures and noise performance. But I'm doubtful about the lens. It is not as detail as Olympus/Panasonic. Color wise is pretty good but it seems to be a tad soft to my liking. I'm not sure if the AA filter is strong or it has something to do with the distance between lens and sensor (since NEX-3/5 is so thin). The focusing is fast, accurate and silent. Too bad the lens (18-55) spoil the design. Too big hehe. The 16mm is equally soft too. Also the shutter lag is pretty long. Continuous shooting is fine but single frame is long. Although the E-PL1 does exhibit shutter lag but NEX-3/5 seems to be longer (not sure if this is setting related).

Operation wise is ok provided you have preset everything. Say for example in the middle of using the camera, you decide to change some settings here comes the nightmare. Browsing and browsing in the menu hehehe! LCD display quality is perfect. The swivel is brilliant. Also the lack of the hotshoe is disturbing. The proprietary flash isn't going to cut it.

For these reasons, I would recommend the E-PL1 twin kit lens or just the body (if you feel the AF is slow to your liking). I've seen and read a few success stories about coupling the E-PL1 body with Panasonic 14-45mm and 20mm. The only problem the Oly PEN system have is the 14-45's slow AF motor. I think the 14-150mm lens with MSC will be quick but I have not tried it yet. If you have the budget, that configuration could be the ideal one. Then you slap in Panasonic 20mm later. tongue.gif
*
shutter lag can be compared if you set both to shutter speed to same? I scared the NEX camera shutter lag due to shutter speed
too slow because I heard NEX tend to overexpose... (OT)...lol
