guys, how do u like quick wash the airbrush in between spraying different colour of paint?

And anyone here use Mr. Color GX100? Do we need to mix with thinner also? If so normally whats the ratio?
*
here's my DIY cleaner if your in a budget for you to do some quick wash during painting.
Will cost you around RM2 to build.

ya i used GX100, but when i do panel line also washes away the paint underneath. So i guess probably this is not suitable for it>.<. So i'm seeking another alternative...
*
if your based color is acrylic and you panel line wash is enamel, there should be no problem there. Better check you type of paint for based color and the panel line wash color.

i used Mr color GX series, as i know its solvent based acrylic paint, and i thinned with Mr thinner. While tamiya panel line accent color is enamel. So both are sort of 'oil-based'? Contraindicated?
*
what did you used to wipe the excess panel line off? enamel thinner/zippo lighter fluid?

so basically you thinned your based color (acrylics) with Mr. thinner, then wipe off the panel line wash which is enamel with Mr. thinner too? if this your procedure?
There are thinner for lacquers/acrylics and there are thinner for enamel..Mr. thinner is for acrylics. When you wipe the panel lines with Mr. thinner too, then your basically wiping off the whole base paint. used enamel thinner or lighter fluid to wipe out the panel line wash.

ya i think thats what i did. So for the Tamiya panel line accent color i should get other type of thinner? So if i change to wash the panel line with other thinner so and underlying base paint and the GX100 clear coat won't be affected? Sorry for all these stupid question doh.gif
*
no it wont... go with enamel thinner or lighter fluid for the wash..

QUOTE(Raive93 @ Jan 12 2013, 11:47 PM)
After all this time, i have decided to go for hand painting, since it is less pricey and my environment works better with hand painting instead with spraying. So, i would like to ask a few question about hand painting.

please correct me if i am wrong

1. I heard that lacquer is bad on ABS, so must prime before spray it and lacquer are bad for hand painting.
--- never encounter it before.. Priming is a must at least for me.

2. is enamel also harm plastic and require priming before painting?
--- no and prime

3. my hobby shop here, i can only get gaia notes(lacquer), mr. hobby and tamiyas. For tamiya acrylic, i know that i can dilute with water, but mr. hobby's acrylics need thinner to dilute right?
--- mr hobby can, mr color cannot

4. I would like some shiny colours, but since the paint i can get here is limited, my only bet is tamiyas acrylic(not sure how many colours can i get here), so for tamiya acrylic metallic like colour, can i dilute it with water also?
--- not sure.. I suggest you go buy a leveling thinner since your doing a hand painting rather that thinning it with water.

that is all for now

thanks in advanced

QUOTE(Raive93 @ Jan 13 2013, 10:24 AM)
hmmm, can i extract the paint from spray cans and use it on hand painting? Will it dry too fast? or the paint extracted will dry up a few months if kept? because majority people say that airbrush is more cost efficient in long run because spray cans(Tamiyas) are quite expensive and high wastage because spray cans covers a big area and thickness of it.

-just decant what ever amount you need in a small bottle. Don't decant in one shot. I'm not pretty sure about tamiya's spray can but industrial one I've been using can last long in a tightly sealed bottle. If you doing this hobby for a very long time, I suggest go get an airbrush

Please correct me if i am wrong

So, based on calculation, spray cans 100ml approx RM 26, with paint bottles 10ml approx RM 9. Even if the paint bottles is dilute with water or with thinner(extra cost). Aren't spray bottles more cost saving? Of course, provided that it wont straight dry up the moment i paint on the parts.

---the beauty of small bottles is the variety of color you can choose compared to spray can. If you know how to mix up paint, you don't need expensive paint like tamiya, you can used industrial spray can like anchor brand for basic color. Once you have an airbrush it's even easier. just decant, mix and spray.. @RM7, it's best bang for the buck..

Thank you

So anchor paint is industrial and i can get it at any hardware shop right? and is that every anchor paint that shiny metal like?
---yes..Practice your spray first before. If you gonna used tamiya, might as well practice first on cheaper spray can.
And could you name some nice base colour from what brand that gives metal like shine? for example

- gold
-- i haven't use gold spray can before
- red
-- i do it in layer... silver ---> candy/clear red
- blue
--- same...silver ---> candy/clear blue
- grey etc
-- i haven't use before
thx

Then do you prime the joint or do masking when applying lacquer, since lacquer will makes the abs brittle if apply lacquer paints on abs without priming.
-- the real question would be will the overall finish/appearance of the kit will be affected if the joints is painted or not painted. It all depends on you
And what is the mixing ratio for lacquer paint?
-- I have no particular ratio I go for consistency of milk when thinning paint.
thank you.

For the bottle primer/surfacer, do i still need to thin it before use?
--yes

and for lacquer, if i use it for hand printing, do i thin it with thinner or retarder?
bottle, yes.. spray can, no. retarder goes together with thinner to slow the drying of the paint..

hi all, im new to painting with airbush, can share how you transfer paint to cup ?
My way:-
1- direct from paint bottle to airbrsh cup.. Not efficient since too much paint melt at side of the bottle, what a waste.
2- using plastic dropper, also i feel like wasting since there are many left over on the dropper wall..
*
just keep doing the transfer from bottle to cup, you'll eventually get the hang of it.

really blur on this, but are there like...grades to brushes? and which one i should be looking for? i wanna paint gunpla btw
*
brushes comes in different shape and sizes. the sizes is identified by a number, the bigger the number the bigger the size.
The most common for modellings are round and flat. The paint brush sizes depends on the sizes of model your working on. If you need a fine detail on a very small scale model, obviously you're gonna need a very fine brush.
