guys.. i'm totally new in painting..
[attachmentid=2671183]
from this picture, the paint chip off (circle in red) after i main main tried to assemble the parts to the body. may i know why will it chip off??

i've sanded it->clean and let it dry few hours->paint with tamiya primer and let dry for overnight->paint a layer of Bosny flat black.

Did i miss anything here? or should i have painted few more layers of the flat black??
*
looks like paint rub.. it's normal when two parts are touching and you try to move them.
What's not normal is they just chipped like putting some masking tape and when you remove the tape. parts of the paint peel off.

hey thanks. i was thinking, should i repaint the whole body again? or just spray some paint on the chipped area.. if i only sprayed it on the affected area, will the paint look uneven to other part of the body??
*
the smalls ones can painted directly but the big ones where the paint rub is visible, you will have an uneven surface.
I usually sanded problem area, re-prime and paint.

seems your paint is not thinned enough. the paint dried fast and settled unevenly that's why there's shinny/grainy areas.

Hi, I'm a beginner at model kit hobby.

Just got some questions, hopefully you guys can help me out please. ^^
Sorry if I have too many questions, it's so hard for me to find somebody who knows these stuff and help me with my questions.

I got some 1/144 F-Toys Star Wars vehicles.
They come with decals. They are so tiny.
Are these water activated? I need to soak in water for few seconds, slide off paper and put on the vehicle? Should I use tweezers when handling, really small(something new for me).
not sure, i only used decals once. sweat.gif and yes used tweezers

Another question is, how do I do black washes?
thinned your paint as thin as possible (1:5 paint to thinner, my preference), apply the paint using brush. let the paint sipped through the crevices of the figure, then wipe the excess off. Youtube got lot of tuts on washes.

If I were to paint these plastic model kits, do I need to buy and use primer first? Or can the Tamiya acrylic paint be applied straight onto the model kit?
can straight paint on the model BUT the paint won't adhere properly to the surface. Highly recommended to prime the kit first.
If there is some excess cement(transparent)on the kit, can the acrylic paint cover it?
If the excess is just little it can, but i suggest to smooth it out by sanding.

When I was touching up some of my polystone superheroes statues(not model kit), to cover up part of the skin that was too red(under the armpit, probably oversprayed by factory), I mixed Tamiya flat flesh with flat white without diluting with water. Just took with a straw from both bottles, and mixed in a watercolor plastic palette. After i got the correct skin tone, if I felt it was a bit thick, I then poured the mix into a glass bottle and added Mr Color Thinner to dilute before applying.(I was told by this hobby shop guy the thinner works on the acrylic although my understanding is that acrylic is to be diluted with water). Seemed to thin out , and seemed to work. But is my process correct? Am I doing it right?
it depends on the maker. Vallejo acrylics is thinned with water,Mr Color on the other hand should be thinned by thinner not with water. I never tried thinning it with water.

Thanks.

it's too thin. go with the consistency of milk. I might try 1:1.5 or 1:2.
prime your inner frame then brush in thin layers around 3-4. brush stroke in 1 direction.

priming is a must. It wont lost the details if you apply it just enough.

what if i din prime them? just paint straight

then there's a higher chance your paint will chip off easily.

Hi. Just a quick question since I couldn't go thru every posts here... can a Tamiya Acrylic Paint(Flat) be painted on metal surface? Cheers in advance.
*
as long you prime it first, should be no problem. smile.gif

Ic thx. Just one more, how about metal diecast surface that has paint? Will it stay? Cheers again.
*
prep the surface first (e.g. sanding). if you can strip the paint easily, strip it if not then just sand and make the surface even.
wash with soap > dry > prime > paint smile.gif

Bro's, i just started Gundam few weeks back. Any recommendation for newbie? Spray can (tamiya spray can or those hardware) / air brush? but if using air brush, it's quite expensive right? if follow market price, average price is how much? for full set? if tamiya spray can, any recommendation? sry for asking too much questions here.
*
You better ask tkting. For Rm500 i believe you can have compressor with tank and an airbrush kit.

Hi, all pro dai kor. I am actually at the middle of airbrushing my gunpla and i hope anyone can help me on this.

I am doing a hi nu gundam blue. A bit of whitish blue.

Actually its my first time using airbrush. And I went to shop ystd and that guy recommend me use Mr. Base White 1000 on the first layer for the whitish blue part before apply the (blue mix white) paint on it.

So, the question is, when i put on this Mr Base White, does that part (originally whitish blue in color) need to be totally white. or just slightly white will do? coz i am air brushing now and it kinda thick if it need the part to be total white.

or izzit because the ratio of my mixture is wrong?
*
if your paint is too thick then there is something wrong with the way you paint. Control the flow and don't concentrate on one spot. Keep the airbrush moving in one stroke smile.gif
If you ask me two coating of base white will do. Based on my exp, you can't achieved a perfect white using base white color especially under a gray/dark primer paint.

thanks~ what is the ideal mixture ratio of base white color and the thinner? my airbrush keep on got block~

To tell you frankly, I don't have the right formula,, tongue.gif . Sometimes it's 1:1, sometimes 1:1.5. sometimes even more. it depends on my mood I guess.. biggrin.gif The number varies, I just look how the paint flows when I'm mixing it in my mixing plate. "milk consistency" is the right term they said.
