we have been a successful club in England since 1892 ....we win 18th title in Football League in England....if MU get the 19th, it was their effort to get that title....congrats to them....we should worry about our club...the tradition of our club winning the title..it seems gone since when? 20 years already...in 20 years, we still looking a formula, solution how to be a champion, ...

for me, there is two sides of me, dignity or rational...win over Chelsea means we let our rival win the 19th (rational), lose to Chelsea because we dont want MU win the 19th (dignity)...

there's always have a reason whether we lose or win against Chelsea ...

Bick: Liverpool face battle with interest payments

David Bick, chairman of Square 1 Consulting, has exposed the depth of the financial crisis gripping Liverpool, with the club facing a struggle to keep up with interest payments on their debts.

The replacement or refurbishment of Anfield is a key issue in any takeover.

The city expert in football finances, with links to Keith Harris, who was involved in two takeover bids at Liverpool, has now informed Soccernet of the deepening threat to Liverpool, with top players liable to be sold as a consequence of their failure to reach the Champions League.

Bick told Soccernet: "I fear that, looking at the figures, Liverpool are in grave danger of not being able to continue to pay their interest bill for very much longer. Based on the existing figures, the interest repayments on the loans are £36 million a year.

"It's not clear when the cash from this season's Champions League comes in, but it is clear there is going to be a big hole for not being in it next season. The starting point is £20 million, maybe as much as £40 million, maybe even more.

"The city is aware that Liverpool will be posting a £35 million operating profit to July 31, but from what I can see the club will be running out of cash by the end of the year.

"A deal has been struck, which seemed to have been kept under the radar, that the Royal Bank of Scotland gave the club a six-month extension, and that might be connected to the owners agreeing to have Martin Broughton in as the independent chairman. Usually, RBS has granted the club only a year-on-year extension, but for some reason it has been extended already by six months.

''That means that the club have until Christmas to sort it all out, but with Tom Hicks saying this week it could take two years to sell - that is the wrong message. It sounds as though the club will have little to no choice but to sell their best players. We all know how that works, the reality of this game, that if a bid comes in and the player wants to go, you cannot stop him.

"If Liverpool sell their best player, lose their manager, it is downhill from there, as the competition isn't getting easier - it is intensifying. Spurs are in the Champions League and Manchester City will spend their way into contention, so where does this leave Liverpool?"

Bick argues that Liverpool's real value is £300 million rather than the £800 million Tom Hicks and George Gillett have been asking. Bick added: "I would say the true value of Liverpool is £300 million, no more than £350 million, and to suggest £800 million is ludicrous.

"But even if there is a buyer willing to pay £300 million, it would be pointless unless they had the funds for a new stadium, otherwise it just won't work."

This week, on Soccernet, Bick revealed how Liverpool are in urgent need of a "rescue" package rather than a takeover, as the club must move from their crumbling Anfield to a new stadium.

Bick is an advisor to Keith Harris, who has been behind two abortive takeover bids for the stricken club. While Harris is a leading light in the Red Knights group heavily linked with trying to buy out the Glazers at Manchester United, Bick has focused on their local rivals and warns of an impending £10 million fee to be imposed by the Royal Bank of Scotland to extend bank loan facilities for a further six months.

Well, anyone realized that we don't have a sports fitness coach since Pako Ayestaran and surprisingly, earlier to the season, its been mentioned little, but we don't have what they call.. a sports psychiatrist (someone who helps to valve the pressure correctly)

or something like that.

I'm still thinking about Duke's arguments.

Javier Mascherano admits he desired Barcelona move

Javier Mascherano has described his failure to secure a move to Barcelona last summer as "a shame" and cast further doubt on his long-term future at Liverpool by revealing his difficulties with life in England.

Mascherano was a transfer target for the Spanish champions but a deal was not agreed between the two clubs. Speaking candidly about the transfer talks, the Argentina captain admits he was keen to leave Anfield.

"The situation with Barcelona really affected me," Mascherano told the News of the World. "It was a shame it didn't happen as it was the city I wanted to live in.

"There were many discussions and problems during that month and a half. They were difficult times for me. One day I was off to Barcelona, the next I wasn't. And Liverpool said I was non-transferable.

"Psychologically, it affected me as I couldn't think in Liverpool and I was focused on other stuff and not on my work, my training and playing. Also we were having problems with Argentina as our qualification to the World Cup was in danger. There was a lot of complicated stuff at that time."

Mascherano also admits his family have struggled to settle in England and has painted a lonely picture of his day-to-day life on Merseyside.

"I don't do much stuff in my free time, that's the truth," Mascherano said. "I could go to London with my wife to do some shopping but I have already been to London 1,000 times and if I want to go to another city I would have to take a plane.

"What kills me about living in Liverpool is that there are only two Argentinians here with me, Emiliano Insua and Maxi Rodriguez. Insua and I live in a private neighbourhood. He lives in one tower and I live in the other. There are 15 metres between us and we used to look at each other through the window.

"Sometimes Zabaleta comes from Manchester but there is no way Carlos Tevez comes here. If I want to see him, I have to go to his place and knock on his door. He doesn't like to leave his home. So during the winter, during those four or five months, I have to stay at home all day with my family.

"I have no problem living in Liverpool, but I think my wife and daughters deserve to enjoy every day to the full and live their lives - but they have to be at home all day. My wife doesn't speak a word of English, so she depends 100% on me. I live here with them. That's my world, that's my life."

It was reported on Saturday that Mascherano has postponed talks over a new contract with Liverpool as he waits to see whether Rafael Benitez will remain at the club.

Carragher: Liverpool must focus on the top four

After a season of turbulence on and off the pitch, Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher claims that the club will be focused on just getting back into the top four next season.

Having finished seventh in the Premier League, Liverpool were usurped in the Champions League places by Tottenham and only just made it into the Europa League behind Aston Villa and Manchester City.

But with the future of manager Rafa Benitez up in the air and the continuing issues surrounding co-owners Tom Hicks and George Gillett, Carragher believes that, instead of attempting to reignite a strong title challenge, the club should just target finishing in the top four again.

"Clubs like Real Madrid and Inter Milan can just throw £100 million at new players if they don't win the title,'' he told the People. "But Liverpool can't do that. We have to build. We can't just raid the transfer market.

"Next season, rather than thinking too much about the title, we have to concentrate on getting back in the top four."

Reds urged to up Wilson bid

Rangers are waiting for Liverpool to make an improved bid for highly-rated teenager Danny Wilson after they rejected a £2million offer from the Reds.

The Scottish champions confirmed the Anfield club were interested in signing the 18-year-old around two months ago.

Gers manager Walter Smith has revealed the club have recently turned down an offer for the promising youngster.

"We are currently waiting to hear back from Liverpool after we rejected their original £2million offer," he told The Sunday Post.
Refused

Left-sided centre-half Wilson has refused his club's attempts to extend his contract - which has just one year remaining.

Rangers would receive just several hundred thousands of pounds in compensation should he leave Ibrox next summer.

Livingston-born Wilson made 25 first-team appearances last season and with his club resigned to losing the hot prospect, they will try and hold out for as much money as the Scottish Football Writers' Young Player of the Year could attract.

Rangers chief executive Martin Bain admitted the club had rejected approaches from two English Premier League clubs back in January, with Tottenham strongly linked with a move.

Chelsea set to free Joe Cole and go after Yossi Benayoun

Joe Cole on England duty against Japan – the Chelsea midfielder looks set to leave the club on a free transfer.

Chelsea have paved the way for Joe Cole's departure from Stamford Bridge by formalising their interest in the Liverpool midfielder Yossi Benayoun, with the Israeli confident a transfer can be completed over the next week.

An opening bid of £4m is understood to have been knocked back by the Merseyside club, though they have offered Chelsea encouragement that an improved offer of about £6m will secure the 30-year-old. Carlo Ancelotti is keen to sign the Israel international after talks with Cole's representative over a new deal reached an impasse, with the midfielder now expected to leave under freedom of contract next month.

Tottenham Hotspur, with a potential Champions League campaign ahead, remain favourites to secure Cole under the Bosman ruling, ending his seven-year stay in south-west London since a £6.6m move from West Ham United. The 28-year-old had hoped to gain an increase on his weekly wage to £100,000, but Chelsea are set upon restructuring financially and did not offer him improved terms.

Cole has not had a regular first‑team place at the Double winners under Ancelotti, and Benayoun will have to accept life as a squad player as well. His own fortunes at Liverpool dipped somewhat towards the end of last season to mirror those of the team, with his relationship with the manager, Rafael Benítez, steadily deteriorating to the point where Liverpool effectively sanctioned his departure in the closed season.

The move is surprising given that Benayoun, who had also attracted tentative interest from his former club West Ham United and Spurs, is two years older than Cole in a squad that is already considered to be ageing, though he does have pedigree in the Premier League.

The Israeli anticipates the completion of his move to Stamford Bridge over the next few days having indicated last week while on international duty that Chelsea were keen to sign him. "Ancelotti wants me for next season and now everything depends on Liverpool," he said. "Chelsea will have to pay some £6m, but I believe that, in the end, I'll be moving there."

QUOTE(lilredridinghood @ Jun 1 2010, 03:45 PM)
I am one of the minorities who too thinks that Gerrard is just simply not as deadly as before. Before this season, without Torres, Gerrard could take the goal scoring responsibility, but not this season, the age has caught up to him I guess. Nevertheless, I insist that he's still capable of taking over at other roles, instead of blasting long shots, I prefer to think that his decent long balls can be useful to take over the missing role of Xabi or in case Mascherano decides to leave, play him at the defensive midfielder role, he started playing at that position, perhaps, he might end up better than Javier as our Captain Marvel is known to be good at firing long range bullets.

However, if he really decides to leave us, I'd say, take the 30 million pounds(Optimistic Figure) and we invest on other players. Yes, that might kill us psychologically, but I personally do not place success in front of the soul of the club. We can build, quick or slow, depends on the management. Who knows, we might end up being like Arsenal, the loss of Thierry Henry, did it affect them much? No. Pacheco might be able to take his role as a play maker successfully. Benitez did have Aimar as the main architect and I don't see Gerrard having that kind of football IQ other than his powerful long range shots.

In any case or any transfers, I would very much prefer to have Arda Turan next season, the kind of player that we have been missing since the departure of Harry Kewell. A player who likes to play at wide areas, technical, smart and last but not least, scores goals.
*
as i said before..gerrard best position was there...but he still can assist for torres to score like 'last last' season...
BUT....if you want to play gerrard there, YOU NEED TO FIND a player that can do Alonso/Gerrard jobs there...Aqua? yes he can. but in term changing the game plan, he can be there....so who is the better candidate for that position?

we can repeat our performance 08/09 season, with suitable player to replace Alonso position, or we just change our tactical without player like Alonso...
